Mixtape Review: Shades of Mary – Jetpack Jones and Brock Berrigan

Shades of Mary
Californian emcee JETPACK JONES and New York producer BROCK BERRIGAN came together for their latest collaborative effort Shades of Mary, released last month.

With the 17-track mixtape, the duo mixed hip-hop with every possible genres going – 70’s groove, 80’s funk, R&B, reggae, rare groove and a hint of Latin  – you name it, they’ve done it! What makes this project so intriguing is the super cool, chilling-in-the-summertime delivery of quick witted, laugh-out-loud wordplay that suits every genre featured on this mammoth production.

Even if you’re not a die-hard hip-hop head, Shades of Mary is definitely worth a trial, because these two guys created really something special here…

The #Mustlistens: Simply Because We Can, Roll, Stoner Hill, A Shade of Love, Find Your Cool, Farewell.

Youre the One Jennie B

Day’s song is You’re the One by  JENNIE B.

Hailing from Ireland, this hip-hop princess is no stranger to the stage – from the age of 11, she performed at the Westend and Disneyland Paris. By the late teens,  she decided to take care her career to another level by taking singing lessons.

JENNIE B had itchy feet and moved to the Big Apple to pursue her career as a recording artist…and she meant business! As well as working along with choreographers who trained up JANET JACKSON, RIHANNA and MISSY ELLIOT, she fine-tuned her vocals with singing coach Norma Garbo who also perfected the vocals of TAYLOR SWIFT – and went on tour with SCISSORS SISTERS as their voice coach.

She took a liking to the underground hip-hop scene and released a video to her track, All The Boys.  Produced by the all-rounder artist, the video received over 60,000 views on YouTube. Despite having with minimal  promotion, the video found its way to EMI  and Ultra Records and generated interest amongst renowned DJs and rappers.

So let’s see if You’re the One will push her right to the top. This track perfectly sums up JENNIE B – fun with twist of Rnb, pop, hip-hop and dance – have a listen! If you’re feeling this track, head over to her on Twitter and show your appreciation @JennieBmusic.

Song of the Day: Perfect World -Aries Marquis

Aries Marquis Impections

This is such a PERFECT  start to the week. Please check out the angelic Perfect World  by ARIES MARQUIS. This track is coming from his EP, Imperfections released in February.

Hailing from Louisiana, ARIES MARQUIS is not your average R&B artist. He honed his skills singing in churches and talent shows. His smooth classic soulful vocals found its way to Southern University A&M College, Haiti humanitarian missions plus numerous college and internet radio stations across the globe. He gained a great deal of attention at the Independent Entertainment Summit, in North Hollywood, CA, where he won 2013 Breakout Artist of the Year.

Just listen to Perfect World – the moment you hear that powerful voice (with the backing of a gospel choir), it’s not hard to work out why he deserves all the hype – he’s a cross between MARVIN GAYE and DONNY HATHAWAY.

If you’re feeling Perfect World, it’s really worth checking out his EP – trust me, it won’t be a wasted journey…also show your appreciation @AriesMarquis
