When Lars Zebregs, Bo Bodewitz and Raf Jansen first met via a mutual friend, they immediately felt a strong musical bond.
This quickly led to weekly jamming sessions on Meirstraat, a cosy residential street in their hometown of Oud Gastel, and during those sessions, the trio let their creative juices just flow naturally, without any pressure to strive for perfection. Amid all the creativity flying around, the guys came up with the name of the band – THE MEIR – paying homage to the street where it all began. But the band name wasn’t the only thing to emerge from those sessions. They also gave birth to something that perfectly captured what those jams were all about: just letting things happen naturally.
And that ‘something’ comes in the form of their brand-new single, ‘Free’, out today across all leading music platforms.
A welcoming, atmospheric opening, reminiscent of Keane’s hit ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, immediately gives a sense of liberation. As it weaves through themes of transition, release and freedom, it reflects the spirit of the band’s own jamming sessions. ‘FREE’ is left wide open to interpretation, giving listeners the space to decide what it personally means to leave something behind and begin a new chapter in life without fear or restriction.
‘Free’ is The Meir’s first offering from their upcoming album, ‘Infinite’. The single not only signifies their progress as budding musicians, but also perfectly wraps up their soothing combination of rock and pop – music that’s comforting to the soul.
