Album review: Year 0 – Atlum Schema

Year 0

It took two and a half years for Andy Mort aka ATLUM SCHEMA to mould and perfect his latest album Year 0…and it must have been worth the ride as the 10-track production didn’t fail to disappoint.

Released last month, Year 0 boasts the purest melodies in which the Leamington-based smooth rocker’s simple and crisp vocals perfectly delivers the story of loss, the frailty of the human body and potential strength of the human spirit.

Initially an acoustic production, Year 0 I grew into  an atmospheric and ambient affair with slight burst of electronic sounds, a combination that bodes well for a great listening on those lazy days or a relaxing evening.

Song of the day: Lifeline-Kate Hazeldine

Lifeline Kate Heraldine

If I was to describe today’s song in one word, it will have to be absolutely stunning (I know, I know that’s two words!) Please take time out and listen to Lifeline by British singer/songwriter KATE HAZELDINE. The single was released last month.

Drawing inspiration from KATE BUSH and FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE, the 20 year-old liverpudlian fuses sweet melodic piano riffs and ambient guitars with hauntingly beautiful vocals – creating that heavenly chocolate wave of sound. Hard to imagine? Well have a listen to Lifeline…while you’re here, it’s worth listening to her equally stunning B-side Girl in the Window.

If you like what you hear, the single is available for purchase on Itunes…also say hi to this angelic singer @KateHazeldine

EP Review: Feather Weight Soul Tape Vol. II : Mellowtape – Robin Mitchell

Robin Mitchell Feather weight soul

Feather Weight Soul Tape Vol. 2: Mellowtape
is the perfect introduction to British smooth operator ROBIN MITCHELL.

So what to expect from this Bristol-based singer/songwriter? Well the title of the EP says it all really…super light, mellow, summertime melodies (with the hints of soul and afrobeats) which is topped off by Mitchell’s soothing and dreamy vocals. The 4-track production was released last month, perfect timing for those lazy summer days.

Have a listen and you’ll be greeted by the cheeky fi-lo intro, Blip.

Must listen tracks: Soliloquy, The Trick, From the Waist Up

EP Review: Echoes of the Future: Playhead

PlayHead Echoes of the Future

 1. Bring the Thunder
2. Clean Air
3. New York Skyline
4. Reach

Bristol-based electronic dance band PLAYHEADS released their EP, Echoes of the Future.

Released last month, the 4 track EP spans from the creative minds of British producers Jonathan Savage and Bruce Turner. Together they create something that’s pretty special by bringing back the favour of 90’s dance music and adding their modern twist of electronics beats…and they didn’t stop there… they pushed the boundaries by dropping a hint of Afrobeats, featured in first track Bring in the Thunder.

So if you want to head down memory lane, it’s worth giving Echoes of the Future a blast…and if you do, don’t forget your acid smiley face t-shirt!

Star tracks:

Bring in the Thunder; Clean Air…oh, what the hell – listen to the EP! Just head right here and enjoy!
