Song of the Day: Distance – Latrell James

Laterall James Distance

Today’s song is Distance, the latest track by LATRELL JAMES.

This Boston-based artist/producer’s  main focus is hip-hop music. He had the pleasure sharing the stage with some influential artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Cam’ron and Scarface from the release of his last project Lemonade Stand. Now Latrell is gearing for to release a new project this Spring by the name of Twelve and he is releasing new music every two weeks – so keep a lookout!

For now, go and check Distance – this track has that too-cool-to school, LL COO J vibe. If you’re really feeling this track, visit his SoundCloud page (seriously, it won’t be a wasted trip!)

Know FLYAC? Nope…well let me introduce you…FLYAC (which stands for Forever Young and Comfortable) is a six-piece hip-hop group from Woodbridge VA, consisting of MixMasterAle (Engineer),  (Engineer), Nico Green (Engineer/Producer/Artist), Legend Guevara (Artist), Xander (Artist), Anonimous Sound (Artist), and Double D (Artist). Started out two years ago, they recently joined up with another local group called Another Planet Ent and together they came up with a 14-track mixtape Long Overdue.

Released last month, the mixtape starts off with some smooth vintage beats then hits you with in-yer-face beats coupled with straight talking, reality-bites wordplay. Think SLUM VILLAGE meets a mild WU TANG CLAN.

Tracks  Wake Up, Red Wine Awwwe and Vibe features that vintage hip-hop drive where the raps that cruises with the production. The mixtape heats right up with the old-school, head rolling Rhythm4TheMind and When the Chips are Down (SUPERHOT TRACK, MUST LISTEN). Long Overdue goes out with a BANG with the super smooth, super-slick, SLUM VILLAGE-esque, Dreams.

This is ONE mixtape for serious hip-hop heads. So if you haven’t heard these guys in action, I suggest you have a quick sample of Long Overdue…and there’s no better place to start than the beginning….

Song of the Day: The Calling (Flu Season) – Lucchi

Lucchi The Calling

Today’s song is The Calling (Flu Season), the first release of 2014 by LUCCHI.

The Ohio-born emcee had a spot on NEW LEASE MUSIC back in September with his track Signature Thoughts (from the high-anticipated mixtape FMR FMB2.)

Now he’s back with this superfly track with a dauntingly dope bass line…and he doesn’t fall short with his lyrics and hungry vocals about his calling for music. LUCCHI – whose real name is Jeffrey Lige- speaks about the encounters throughout his life that lead up to the starting of his musical journey. He also calls it Flu Season because he was recovering from the flu during the recording process as you can tell from his vocals…so go on, have a listen! Despite his croaky vocals, you’re in for a treat!

Pop over to Twitter and wish him a speedy recovery @Lucchi4k
