Song of the Day: Girl (Remix) – The Internet (ft. KAYTRANADA & Rayne Storm)

Rayne Storm remasters and re-releases the songs, remixes and freestyles that made him a buzzing indie prospect in the mid 2000’s and beyond. For each day in April, a new mastered upload will be featured on Rayne’s official Youtube and Audiomack channels in addition to new releases like the remix of The Internet’s hit “Girl” featuring Kaytranada.

With several projects on the table this year and the rise of his Monopolyhouse label and brand, this reintroduction is a great way for Rayne to reignite his current fanbase while expanding on his new sound for the next generation.

Check out the first installment of eight days of “The Re-Instruction of Rayne Storm” below:

Song of the Day: The Gift & The Wound – Matthew De Ver

Serving as a centerpiece of his forthcoming album, ‘Surface Tension (A Tincture for Integrating Shadow)’ MATTHEW DE VER delivers the second R&B track of the day entitled ‘The Gift & The Wound’.

The nostalgic piece gives a snapshot into his teenage years, before the passing of his father – the iconic poet and author Shel Silverstein – over a delicately textured combination of R&B and soul with a boombap vibe.

The video captures Matthew’s Madison, Wisconsin world with an overlay of deeper meaning through urban imagery with nature imagery, offering deep symbolism around such elemental substances as water, stone, wood, and fire.

While you’re here, check out ‘The Gift & The Wound’ – because this guy has some serious talent in him…

Song of the Day: Don’t Get Me Wrong (Cover) – Sophia Marshall

SOPHIA MARSHALL’s busy year continues with her latest release, ‘Smells Like Rubber’, a two-track homage to Chrissie Hynde, The Pretenders, living and working in a man’s world, and making no apologies for any of it.

‘Smells Like Rubber’ – who knows where that came from – but whatever the titular inspiration, it’s the songs that matter, and ‘Smells Like Rubber’, contains two classics from The Pretenders’ canon: ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ and ‘I Go To Sleep’ (the latter written by Ray Davies, but never recorded by The Kinks), both originally released in the ‘80s, and both utterly timeless.

‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ make it to today’s Song of the Day spot for its spine tinglingly feather-light and rootsy treatment on a classic that became a top ten hit in the US and UK back in 1986.

Any The Pretenders fans will find this version a delight…go ahead and have a listen…and if you like what you hear, be sure to check out Sophia’s  Kasabian inspired ‘lin-dah’ EP, released last month –  click here.

Song of the Day: Smother Me – Olivia Nelson

After accumulating over five million streams featuring on Soulection Jarreau Vandal’s ‘Someone That You Love’, OLIVIA NELSON dominates today’s hotspot with gospel-led, soulful track – ‘Smother Me’.

Premiered by DJ Target on BBC Radio 1Xtra as ‘UK unsigned’, the sensual track, which mixes the perfect blend of smooth vocals, passionate lyrics, and pumping bass lines shows the 21-year-old London singer/songwriter power as not only a skilled artist and songwriter, but a powerhouse vocalist whose range and control over carefully crafted production by Jarreau Vandal.

With a debut EP due out early summer, March will see the release of the next instalment from Olivia, as well as shows at London’s Hackney Oslo and Omera.

This is some powerful stuff…I highly recommend you check out ‘Smother Me’ before you sign out.
