New Music Video: Smoke Good F*** Better – A S Jay

Singer/songwriter A S JAY boasts a colourful background due to spending a lot of time growing up and embracing different cultures that has led to an incredible passion and love for music. Jay was raised in both Afro-Caribbean and Asian households and is a major driving force and source of inspiration.

Smoke Good F*** Better is the first sampling from his new material that he has been working on, locked away in the studio. The track is laced with a gritty and atmospheric beat that draws on A S JAY’s raw and fresh, crisp rap, delivered with precision.

The lyric video delivers poignant pictures and scenes from various sitcoms and films that connect with the track. Jay comments, “This track was written last winter and I’ve tried to catch that vibe, while being in London, dealing with separation, getting lost in the crowd. It’s cold out here and that alone has a vibe to it” As an artist if I can catch that vibe and put it in words, that right there is pure satisfaction. ”

Having spent the last 18 months working solidly on his debut EP, although currently untitled, he explains: “020-16 could be the name, 020 as it is the London area code, I mention it a lot in my tracks, and 16 for the current year both of which allude to and celebrate my love of London and the experiences I’ve had here, all of which contribute to the theme of my music”.

Expect to see plenty more from this talented artist, who has potential and is ready to burst onto the scene and showcase his attributes.

New Music Video: Blue Dot – Quincy

QUINCY BROWN has recently released the video for his latest single Blue Dot in which he pays homage to his famous dad Sean “Diddy” Combs widely popular Ciroc vodka.
 
In the beginning, smooth R&B singer hops in a taxi driven by a woman that he ends up fantasizing about and has a steamy make out session with in the backseat. After being dropped off at his destination, his walks the room in and catches the eye of every woman in there before he spots a woman covered in glitter on display in a glass case. Quincy circles around the case in awe of the woman and fantasies about kissing her. She then blows him a kiss and then he falls back onto a bed and when he wakes up, he realises it was all just a dream.

New Track: Yellow Chevy – L Marshall

After bursting onto the scene back in 2011, featuring as a guest vocalist on Wretch 32ʼs critically acclaimed hit Traktor and penning Loick Essienʼs No.2 smash How We Roll, L MARSHALL has since been plotting away silently. His latest record Yellow Chevy was a collaboration with Supadups (Drake’s ʻControlaʼ and ‘Too Good’) and gives a first glance at the singerʼs matured style ahead of the release of his debut album The Amazing Time Machine.

Born Thomas Griffith in London, L struggled with having to conform during school. He remembers. “I was so much trouble that my mum decided to send me to Nigeria to learn some discipline!”. He returned to London at 18 to study Sound Engineering. During this time, he continued to build on the songwriting he’d started as an 11 year-old. Choosing the name L Marshall both in honour of a character from the Manga series Death Note, and as  a  nod  to his joint hometowns of London  and  Lagos,  he  began  to  work  with  new producers.

L’s debut mixtapes The Wait and Kiss the Fire displayed a singer able to rock any beat; from gritty grime to emotive R&B, he flips effortlessly between fully-sung vocals to rap-sung choruses. Inspired by everything from relationships, to paying the bills, to dealing with life’s various poisons, this already proven hit-creator is modest but ambitious about his future goals. “I talk a lot about becoming known worldwide but I just want to reach as many people as possible… To be recognised and appreciated for what I do is really all I hope for.”

Song of the Day: Sitting So High – Awir Leon

Rising electronic star AWIR LEON  hypnotise us with his new single Sitting So High, released via French label Nowadays Records.

Best known as one-third of the Indie Shuffle-approved electro outfit UNNO (featured on NEW LEASE MUSIC with track Blue Leaf,) AWIR LEON conjures up charming R&B vocals, lo-fi production and a flurry of glitchy tones. Gently nodding in the post-dubstep direction of artists like James Blake and Jamie Isaac, it also finds a dark yet playful line between the spacious sounds of Airhead and the husky tones of Nicolas Jaar.

Following in the footsteps of recent Nowadays successes like Sekuoia, Clement Bazin and Jumo, Sitting So High introduces Leon as another prime example of the label’s cutting edge talent. An artist for whom mood and texture is just as important as substance, the engine behind his new track is the sheer nostalgia that it draws out, which is aptly reflected in its accompanying visuals.

The track will form the first episode of a three-part video series of Leon’s upcoming debut solo album Giants, set to drop next autumn. Self-directed and choreographed, the visuals signify the producer’s most personal work to date and depict him dancing around on top of a coal mountain in the North of France; his movements erratic and unpredictable, yet fluid and graceful. Shot next to the house where the French artist grew up, Leon describes the video as representing the “starting point of his life”.

Laced with rumbling bass lines, moody synths and smooth vocals that wander freely between provocative trip-hop and melancholy jazz, Sitting So High clearly sets him apart from his successes as a collaborator and band member. With his solo nuance of new-wave vibes and broody tones, he is surely well on his way to becoming Nowadays Records’ most exciting export of the year so far.

Song of the Day: Apple – Kane & Marcus Beats

Apple, is a collaboration between two UK’s promising acts, introducing a seamless musical mix of R&B with the influential ‘skippy’ high hats of London’s old ‘skool’ Garage scene, formidably complimented with a grime sound that just makes sense.

So expect to tease your ears with the summery tones of the West Coast, intrinsically complemented by the texturing voices of KANE, who perfectly executes a ‘rap singing’ ‘skippy’ vocal, while MARCUS BEATZ spits the UK Grime sound with tangible flow.

This track, which has been inspired by the Adam & Eve story of ‘forbidden fruit’ depicts how a woman can control a man’s mind, and has been cleverly transformed into contemporary times, accompanied with a London shot video by Nathaniel Media.

The track itself was written by the pair and as this is just one of the many creative talents up their sleeve. It’s very safe to say that this special duo are truly set to showcase what UK talent have to offer.
