New Track: It’s The Time – Lulu James
Known for her evocative and distinctive sound, Tanzanian born/ British singer LULU JAMES returns with two brand new singles via a double A-side EP. Her upcoming releases feature work with award-winning producer Ronni Vindalh, who has written and produced albums for MO and Kendrick Lamar, and a collaboration with British producers Gorgon City.
First single, It’s the Time was written with Ronni Vindalh. The three-minute production is accompanied with a conceptual music video, which premiered with Notion magazine. “It’s a melodramatic 21st Century Soul track. I wrote this song with the amazing Ronni Vindalh in my kitchen during probably one of the most difficult times of my life. So I spoke to the universe, riding this beat with my words.” – Lulu James.
It’s the Time EP is released 16 Sept.
New Track: Bad Apple – J Philippe
New Tracks: Formation & Body Party – King Dice O
With fellow Owl Life Entertainment recruits (pictured), KING DICE O comes double the force with TWO out-of-sight-tracks.
Intrigued? Well start off with Formation. This four-minute banger displays the street poet and the gang hard at work – and at their very best. The rhythmic ‘gong’ with an intermittent electronic drive is finished off with on-point wordpay from each member. (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)
With an after hours groove coupled with chocolate-smooth delivery to match Body Part is the type of track is definitely for the bedroom department (use your imagination!)
If these releases tick all the boxes, it’s well worth checking out KING DICE O‘s latest mixtape, The Life Vol.2: The Quiet Storm right here.
New Track: Holdin’ – Model 86
Forward-thinking producer MODEL 86 returns gets ready to release his latest EP, When You Realise People Are Not One Dimensional Characters In A Movie Of Your Life in early July.
Written over the past six months, the five track release bounces off the walls like nothing Manchester-born, London-based Matthew James Wilcock – the man behind the moniker – has done before. A kaleidoscope of weird and wonderful textures, the EP explores the nooks and crannies of experimental electronic, R&B, and contemporary hip-hop. Blending together an eclectic mix of diced samples, storming bass, beautiful refrains and bold rhythms, When You Realise… provides a sound reminiscent of Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus and Flume.
The EP’s opening track Holdin sets the tone straight from the get-go as an explosive hip-hop fling of choppy samples: a footworky rhythm with emotional breakdowns.
After dropping out of Art College to study music, MODEL 86 began exploring a waypoint between New York hip-hop, ‘70s funk, jazz and contemporary electronic music, whilst exploring his interest in the way music and sound dissect. Having produced prolifically for commercials, TV and film, he finally came into his own with his debut EP, Self Help Dance last summer. Following on naturally from his first release, championed by NME, Clash and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, the producer’s latest endeavour continues the theme of genre-mashing, but with a more considered structure and approach.
When You Realise People Are Not One Dimensional Characters In A Movie Of Your Life is out for your inspection on 8th July…but for now, listen to the EP’s opener.
