OUT TODAY: AMITY Finds Liberation in the Face of Authority with Single ‘Blasphemy’

It’s really great to have AMITY back on the blog with a brand-new release, as there’s something of real substance here, thought-provoking and carrying that rush of liberation that comes with confronting societal issues of the day.

The thrill of a new release on the horizon is not the only aspect I look forward to when this teenage-budding artist reappears in the spotlight. Following the stream of praise from the likes of The Guardian and the BBC, and having been named the Royal Albert Hall’s official Future Maker Artist, Amity has since performed at sold-out shows across the UK, including the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, The Electric Ballroom, Road to Lakefest and Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Along the way, he’s continued to collect an impressive string of accolades, including Fresh on the Net’s ‘One to Watch’ recognition and breakthrough honours, alongside Best Solo Artist from Wigwam Radio.

Now Amity will no doubt continue the momentum of his on- and off-stage achievements with his latest single, ‘Blasphemy’, out today (30th October) across all leading streaming platforms.

For this latest offering, Amity holds the mirror up to societal control, authority and religious constraints. Teaming up with acclaimed producer Agon Branza, he creates an intensely dark ballad where rumbling basslines collide with moments of blissful harp, while daunting rhythmic patters and equally daunting piano keys establish an atmosphere that is both unsettling and strangely captivating. There’s a bittersweet senation running through the arrangement, an intriguing tension between darkness and beauty that somehow delivers that very rush of liberation when confronting the aforementioned subjects.

What I particularly like about ‘Blasphemy’ is that it doesn’t shy away from subjects that can often be uncomfortable to confront. Instead, there’s a sense of defiance running through the whole offering, an invitation to question, reflect and perhaps even challenge some of the very structures that have long been accepted without question. It’s this willingness to explore such themes that gives Amity’s music an added sense of purpose, making it more than just another release to add to the ever-growing musical landscape.

At just 19, there’s already a remarkable maturity in the way Amity approaches his craft, both in the subject matter he chooses to explore and the musical surroundings in which he places it. Having already made such an impressive impression on the live circuit, and with an ever-growing list of achievements to his name, it’s exciting to see an artist who appears so determined to carve out his own creative identity.

‘Blasphemy’ is another welcome addition to that journey, offering something dark, beautifully textured and thought-provoking, while leaving us with plenty to ponder long after the final notes have faded. It’s great to have AMITY back, and if this latest offering is anything to go by, there’s certainly much more to look forward to from this South London visionary.
