New Music Video: Free Up – Coops

Taken from his critically acclaimed album ‘Life In The Flesh’, COOPS drops his latest video for what is one of the most conscious tracks on the project, ‘Free Up’.

Delving deep into the issues and environment that today’s generation find themselves in, COOPS paints a vivid picture of the mental and physical control that society has over them. Providing an inspirational and insightful social commentary, ‘Free Up’ aims to open the mind to a new ideology that allows us all the freedom to think for ourselves rather than be subjected to a predetermined mind state. Partnered with an equally captivating, yet simplistic video, released via the High Focus YouTube channel, COOPS delivers an engaging performance alongside a series of scenes and clips that add further depth and diligence to the lyricism within this beautifully crafted joint.

Having created serious awareness with his latest release, COOPS has excelled as “an artist that stands for something and seeks to use his soulful, yet urgent voice to bring awareness” (Bloggers Gamut). Whilst ‘Life In The Flesh’ generally has a chilled and traditional Hip-Hop tone, it is the lyricism and subjects that need to have close attention paid to them. Conceptualising the cycle of life, death and reincarnation of the spirit and soul, his project captures the middle state, known as life. He incorporates an introspective glimpse into the mental and physical trials and tribulations of his own life, eloquently pieced together, track by track.

As the title would suggest, ‘Life In The Flesh’ is an unadulterated reflection of modern-day life as he sees it. Pulling no punches, COOPS and producer Talos have meticulously pieced together an epic record echoing all the ups and downs of existence in the present day. Whether it be with his poetic turn of phrase or the stories told via Talos’ dense emotive production, ‘Life In The Flesh’ is one of those special projects brings us back to a time when Hip-Hop had meaning, with plenty of food for thought.

New Track: New Breath – Fliptrix

As one of the leading lights in the thriving UK hip hop scene, last month’s announcement of FLIPTRIX‘s album release for ‘INEXHALE’ caused a riot of excitement. Already teasing us with the video releases for album tracks ‘It’s Like That’ and ‘Bagging Up Music’, the conscious emcee now launches into full album mode as he drops the Chemo-produced single ‘New Breath’, premiered by DJ Target on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

With his trademark mellow tone FLIPTRIX takes us on a luscious melodic journey, delving into a variety of flows as his lyricism explores purpose in life and the social constraints around us on a daily basis.

After revealing the full tracklist for the album this week, which is produced by Chemo, Molotov & Joe Corfield, fans and music critics are itching to hear as much as they can before the album is officially released on 24th August. With UK Hip Hop royalty Skinnyman, Ocean Wisdom, Capo Lee, Coops, Carmody and more all featuring across the 16 tracks, the album provides new talent, varying genre flavours and highly respected pioneers of the UK sound.

‘New Breath’ was released on his own label High Focus Records, which has grown to be the biggest independent Hip-Hop label in the UK over the last 8 years, being home to Rag’n’Bone Man’s early projects and most recently achieving an independent Top 40 with Ocean Wisdom’s Wizville album earlier this year, FLIPTRIX has released a staggering 7 projects since 2007. He is also a member of super group The Four Owls, who dropped 2 of the most classic records in UK Hip Hop history (‘Natures Greatest Mystery’ in 2011 & ‘Natural Order’ in 2015) and have successfully toured the world numerous times and collaborated with the legend DJ Premier on the monumental ‘Think Twice’ single.

Check out the video for banger ‘New Breath’ – and if you’re in the London area on the 26th August, be sure to catch FLIPTRIX headlining his show at Jazz Cafe.

Song of the Day: Chillin’ – Coops

Coops - Chillin
Today’s song is Chillin‘ by UK rapper COOPS. Track coming from his upcoming mixtape Lost Soul.

After winning the Choice FM Breakthrough Competition in 2013, the North London rapper was given the opportunity to perform at the London o2 with none other than Hip-Hop royalty, NAS. The series of events instilled a new self-belief  and having previously used music as a pastime, the 23-year-old Londoner’s passion for the craft was ignited.

After completing a degree in performing arts at Southampton University, COOPS set to work on his mixtape  Lost Soul.

The first track to from the mixtape,  Chillin is an introduction to the soulful, laid back, hip-hop vibe that he represents. With an evident stroke of creative intuition, this upriser matches an effortless flow and delivery with a beautifully pared down beat that allows his content to shine, and embodies its title to the fullest.

Have a listen to Chillin‘. If you’re feeling this track, it’s worth looking out for the mixtpe, which is set for release on 2nd June via his website.
