Song of the day: I’m Not a Freshman? 2 – Wish GRANT’ed

Wish Granted

WISH GRANTed’s I’m Not a Freshman? provides some much-needed substance to the XXL Freshman list hype. With heartfelt lines and a self-produced beat featuring himself on the piano, Wish shows his lyrical prowess and viewpoint on the hip hop game.

This stuttering, saxophone playing, dancing hip hopper is making waves in the DMV area. With his stylish dance moves and saxophone in hand, the Baltimorean brings about an amplified experience during his live performances fusing custom instrumental hip hop melodies with catchy lyrics. The hip hop artist has performed with the likes of Lil Durk, Curren$y, Audio Push, Snow tha Product,  and Chedda Da Connect.

To add to his ever-growing CV, WISH GRANTed is set to release an EP Second Wish late this summer.

Upcoming Release: Hype – A.M. SNiPER (ft. Curren$y)

Hype AM Siper

A.M. SNiPER flashes back into the limelight with Hype, the first single from his forthcoming debut album.

The British-Cypriot rapper is renowned for teaming up with some of the biggest names in music across both the UK and US scenes from his base in Ayia Napa (the original hotspot and mainstay for UK Garage, Grime and Urban music in Europe), hosting and collaborating with a bonafide plethora of stars including Chris Brown, Tyga, Rick Ross, Wiley, JME, Julian Marley, Dj Jaguar Skills and Memphis Bleek.

For his latest banger,  A.M. joins forces with one of hiphop’s undisputed underground kings, New Orleans rapper Curren$y, long-term friend and collaborator of Wiz Khalifa. The track  boasts a late-night jam that oozes understated class.

A.M. SNiPER’s musical prowess stems as far back as the early 2000s, where as a budding teenager in the UK Garage pioneers’ So Solid Crew, he produced a third of their sophomore album. This finesse and adept appreciation of authenticity and culture is reflected on the new single. The track samples A Tribe Called Quest’s Butter with vocal cuts from the late Phife Dawg and pays tribute to similar icons – Bob Marley for instance – two artists concerned with the art and the vision rather than the hype.

Hype will be available on iTunes from 24th June…but for now, check out the visual to the single.

Star Song: Hawaiian Thought$ – IMNAMEDKYRA

Kyra Hawaiian nightsFirst of all, I have to say that this is one HOT chick! Let me introduce you to IMNAMEDKYRA – a Maryland –native female rapper (who you should sit up and take notice of) – and her latest single Hawaiian Thought$. This track just displays the extraordinary talent of this promising artist. Hawaiian Thought$ is definitely a standout production as it begins with chopped up beats (which sounds like a stuck CD) and then you’re introduced to IMNAMEDKYRA’S freestyling which effortlessly cruises throughout the chill out track – absolutely wicked!

Heavily influenced by A TRIBE CALLED QUEST and CURREN$Y, IMNAMEDKYRA whose real name is Akyra Hedgman – was part of a Pittsburgh-based group called THE H&T. Now residing in Atlanta, IMNAMEDKYRA is now looking to expand as a solo hip-hop artist. She’s planning to release her mixtape, The Drive very soon – so keep your eyes peeled for a review!

Go on, have a listen to Hawaiian Thought$. If you’re really loving this sound, head over to SoundCloud where you can listen to more of IMNAMEDKYRA’S tracks. Before I sign off, may I recommend one more track Geronimo? Man, it’s too good for words!
