Safari Gold Release New Single ‘Last Chance Addict’

Welsh alt-pop quartet SAFARI GOLD re-emerge with their latest single, ‘Last Chance Addict’, out now across various music platforms.

Lead vocalist’s Morgan and Danny – “The song plays on general morality and the less glamorous side of thrill seeking. An up tempo song for the deeper soul’d out there.”

The guys found relative success in their mid-teens under the name Cuba Cuba, following bands like Kids in Glasshouses and Funeral For a Friend during the Welsh power-pop zeitgeist of the early 2010′s.

15 years on, they can’t quit making music together. Album number two has been carefully crafted over four years and is set for release on the 27th of January. The band are set to announce a string of live shows this year.

Alt Pop Duo Hooked Like Helen Shares Stunning Ballad ‘Winter’

Ohio-born and based Alt-Pop duo HOOKED LIKE HELEN has unveiled a rather stunning version of Tori Amos song ‘Winter’, released last Friday (6th January) via Stipp Manor Music,

The single is deeply melodic and despite Nikki’s hauntingly powerful vocals, ‘the track ‘Winter’ possesses an elegant warmth, which allows one to engage with the compelling production.

Nikki and Jon tell us about the inspiration behind their cover of ‘Winter’ (Tori Amos Cover): “When our friend/fitness instructor asked us to play “Winter” by the incomparable Tori Amos, within minutes of dissecting the first few bars of the song we quite frankly fell in love with it. We realised that it needed to become a more significant part of our musical journey and we decided to record a full-length cover of “Winter” for release to the world”.

Nikki adds, “Winter is about a girl’s relationship with a father figure who believes in her and sees greatness in her that she might not see in herself. Ironically, I did not have anyone in my life who fit that role for me as I was growing up, but I think this might be the very reason the song resonates with me on such a visceral level. Music allows us to escape, to imagine, to build castles in our minds. When I sing and play “Winter”, I am (for 4 minutes and 30 seconds) one of those girls with a dad who loves her”.

Hooked Like Helen is husband-and-wife duo Nikki and Jonathan Stipp, whose sound embodies a unique vein of alternative music; dark lyrical themes of unresolved trauma and existential pondering providing a refreshingly authentic perspective crafted from their home studio in the woods outside Cleveland. Their combined musical influences include artists such as Queen, Michael Jackson, Twenty One Pilots, Green Day, Tori Amos, Mariah Carey, Nirvana, and Prince whilst Nikki’s powerful vocals bring to mind artists such as Kate Bush and Ellie Goulding.

As this is the time of year that we often reflect on the past year and also look forward to the future for a fresh start, JORDAN & WESLEYs new single, ‘Christmas’, encourages us to remember Jesus Christ during the season as he gave up his life for us – he is and forever will be the ultimate reason for it all.

Produced by the incomparable Luke “GKid” Grant and co-written by Maleík Loveridge, the song has a 90s/2000s Rnb feel with a chorus that has been described catchy and uplifting. Song of the Day: Shell – Ritual Cloak

Following on from their second album (Divine Invasions), collaborations with Welsh poet Autumn Juvenile and Polish Artist Michal Iwanowski, plus an R.E.M cover, Daniel Barnett and drummer/producer Andrew Sanders -aka electronic postrock duo RITUAL CLOAK – present their single, ‘Shell’ which is about being in a dream where you’re constantly searching for someone but never quite finding them.

It’s an idea that’s been floating around for a few years and gone through a number of different versions before becoming what it is now. Originally Shell was written for acoustic guitar and had a completely different feel. Dan remembers re-listening to Metals by Feist and being inspired by the dramatic intimacy of the album, leading to Shell being rewritten for piano. When the song was brought to the studio Sanders suggested taking the vocals outside of the usual comfort zone.

The inspiration for this method of production was taken from Bon Iver and Mogwai, experimenting with vocoder and the deliberate use of autotune for the first time. As a result the song entered new musical territories, and served as a reminder to ourselves that there are no rules in what we do. Have a listen below…
