Song of the Day: Simmer Down – Sakyi 4

You have great potential… It’s just you guys need to work out what group you want to be – SIMON COWELL.

With that sound advice from one of the most respected music moguls on the planet, brothers Reece, Carl, Aaron and Eden Sakyi – aka SAKYI 4 – are determined to become UK’s next promising R&B group.

For their latest single, ‘Simmer Down,’ the quartet switched it up with rich and bold presence of Afrobeats, fused with their laid-back R&B trademark. Since its release, the music video for the single has cranked up over 8,000 views on Youtube, gaining support from Link Up TV.

Their previous R&B number, ‘Bad As You’, received a seal of approval from SBTV’s Jamal Edwards MBE, clocking up over 31,000 views on YouTube.

Born in North West London into a mixed heritage (Ghanaian and British) , SAKYI 4 were introduced to music from an early age through their parents’ love for soul, pop and African music. The brothers share the same passion for singing and songwriting, crediting Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson as early influences.

Gaining praises from a string of UK’s biggest urban tastemakers, SAKYI 4‘s new offering is just the beginning of their very fruitful journey….check it the video.

New Music Video: Not Alone – ShadowCV6

As played by DJ Semtex on Friday night’s BBC 1xtra show, ‘Not Alone’ is the poignant new single from emerging SHADOWCV6, which bravely sheds light on male mental health. For too long male mental health has been a silent subject, especially in the UK where 76% of suicides are by men and it is the biggest cause of death for men under 35, with 12.5% of men in the UK suffering from one of the common mental health disorders.

With the likes of Jamal Edwards, Stormzy and Professor Green all recently opening up about depression, SHADOWCV6’s mission to destroy the stigma surrounding male mental health comes at a vital time.

Speaking of the latest single, the Coventry rapper explains: “As someone who suffers with anxiety and depression, I understand how people feel alone and like no one can relate to what they are going through. This song is a way of showing people that they are Not Alone and you can talk about it. A problem shared is a problem halved”

The young artist offers some passionate bars on the topic that rise in intensity as the Bolus produced track is accompanied by some glossy guitar-flavoured production….so take a sneak peek of the video for ‘Not Alone’.

Song of the Day: Cold – Maxsta (Ft. Dot Rotten, Flowz & Chase Inferno)

Maxsta cold mixtape 1.5

Today’s song is Cold by British rapper MAXSTA. The track is taken his latest project, The 1.5 Mixtape, released 30th March.

After the success of  Got Gassed, MAXSTA drops this follow up single with a melodical flow and chilled beat. His lyrical content digs deeper and he shows how diverse he is as an artist. Following a monstrous end to 2013 as the headlining clash on the top 40 selling album ‘Lord of the Mics’; MAXSTA is back with a collection of tracks that sees him make a welcome return to his musical roots with ‘The Maxtape 1.5′.

Speaking of his latest release, he says:  “Its all about the Maxtape 1.5. Having parted ways with Sony Records, I feel I’m in a place where I want to create my own lane and basically become everything I’ve wanted to be and everything I am by showing all of my industry and life experience so far. I feel like my music is coming from an adult view point now and I’m excited to surprise my fans, other artists and most importantly, myself.”

In 2009, at the age of just 17, MAXSTA released his debut project the ‘The Maxtape’ featuring singles such as ‘East London is Back and Skadoosh with Ghetts & Dolla Da Dustman which led him to become the first artist to sign to Sony RCA subsidiary, Just Jam pioneered by SBTV’s Jamal Edwards. After penning a contract with Just Jam,  MAXSTA went on to feature in Adidas’ We Are London campaign and release his debut singles I Wanna Rock which featured as Radio 1 presenter, Nick Grimshaw’s record of the week and Wanna Go featuring Little Nikki with the pair reaching number 67 and 40 respectively in the UK charts in 2012.
