Song of the Day: Friday Afternoon – Love Ghost

love-ghost

Managed to find another dish of the day – that’s twice in one week, you lucky people! This time it’s from Los Angeles-based alternative/cinematic rockers LOVE GHOST.

Inspired by the 90’s grunge subculture, the five-piece band pays tribute to the most influential genre of alternative rock, while creating a unique and modern sound. Having grown up together, they’re able to poignantly express both the hardships and joys of suburban teenage culture within their music.

The band was formed by 15-year-old frontman Finn Bell,  who demonstrates maturity beyond his years with his soulful lyrics and arrangements. Despite the band all being teenagers, their raw musical skill creates a nostalgic triumph of distorted guitar melodies, heavy drums and emotionally stimulated lyrics. LOVE GHOST’s musical composition is inspired by a mix of old universal horror films meshed with iconic grunge artists such as Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

Smashing Pumpkins inspired Friday Afternoon aims to reflect the importance of standing up for oneself especially during a time of hardship in teenage years. Written in the Spring of 2015, Bell reflects upon his own experiences through creation, and actively urges his audience to do the same.

Lead vocalist and lyricist, describes his process as a continuous stream of consciousness, drawn from his emotional response. Bell expresses ‘It’s a shame that people tend to shy away from anything that feels too personal, because those types of things let you know who you really are.’

Despite only being together for a little over a year, the band has seen tremendous success, opening for such artists as The Tubes, Berlin, Ozomatli and Buckcherry. LOVE GHOST has also played several high-profile festivals including Make Music Pasadena and Echo Park Rising.

New Music Video: Oh My Days – Sticky Blood & JiKay (ft Frisco)

oh-my-days-music-video

After making a sharp ascent in to the key list of music producers that are rocking the urban music scene in 2016, STICKY BLOOD collaborate with LA based producer JIKAY (All Trap Music / HotDamn), to drop their latest record Oh My Days featuring Boy Better Know’s Frisco.

With a deep reverb on the bass and the intermittent crashing of symbols working around the chopped and screwed synths, Frisco is the perfect addition as he brings his gritty lyricism to lace the beat. Coming with an intricate and melodic flow, the London MC sounds at ease on the Hip-Hop influenced instrumental.

STICKY BLOOD‘s experimental and visionary stance on creating new sounds has awarded them support from Red Bull, Complex, Radio 1Xtra, Clash, Wonderland, NME, Toddla T, Mistajam, Monki and many more. They have worked with numerous acts including Coco, Toddla T, Snowy and Tom Prior and, thanks to their relentless approach to creating and releasing music, have played a major part in the current surge of exciting new artists and music coming from Sheffield, Nottingham and surrounding areas.

Here’s your chance to check out the visual to Oh My Days.

Song of the Day: A lifetime Ago Paul Sammons

Today’s song is A Lifetime Ago  by PAUL SAMMONS. The single is coming from his EP of the same name, released in September.

The Arkansas- born singer/songwriter developed a strong interest in music from the age of eight then became acquainted with the guitar at the age of 15.

The minute he graduated with a degree in Jazz Guitar, the indie folk rocker took his one-man act on the road, travelling to major cities including Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. On his travels, he met producer Dr. Benjamin Meade who asked him to produce a soundtrack for his documentary, Woke Up this Mornin’ in Arkansas Delta. After the project, he joined forces with friend and producer Nick Thompson to produce his new E.P.

A Lifetime Ago gets the song of the day status, as there’s a beautiful fusion of folk and pop – take a listen.  If you like this single, the EP  is available for purchase on iTunes.

Star Song: Blow Your Brains Out – Aerick Baker with Kanye West

AERICK BAKER is back…this time he brought along KANYE WEST for his latest single, Blow Your Brains Out.

Last month, I featured the talented singer on this blog with his super bad track Y.C.T.M (You Can Try Me). This time it’ll be nice to get to know the man behind that sweet music.

When he was a child AERICK BAKER wanted to be a dinosaur (a brachiosaurus to be exact) – hmmm…Ok, I guess that was an innocent childhood dream! As he got older, he wanted to be a scientist and build a time machine to fix world’s problems – very admirable. THANK GOD he never became a scientist as I’ll never come to know of his truly unique atmospheric R&B signature sound.

In his bio, Aerick mentioned that he felt ostracized as a kid and always wanted to fit in -well, most of us can relate to that. With an out-of-sight discography under his belt, this Los Angeles artist is more than welcome on NEW LEASE MUSIC.

So guys, here’s your treat for today – have a listen to Blow Your Brains Out. Check out his other tracks on You Tube (highly recommended!)
