Album Interview: I, 5tash Bank$ – 5tash Bank$

Although he appeared on NEW LEASE MUSIC a few times last year, Ryan Lamar Alexander – aka Atlanta-based hip-hop rapper 5TASH – was never formally introduced to you guys. Well I finally caught up with him to discuss his latest EP, ‘I, 5tash Bank$’. I asked him about his inspiration behind the popping set and whether he had any challenges during the production process due to the Covid pandemic.

It was an absolute pleasure virtually meeting this fiery upriser…and I hope you guys enjoy his company too…check him out below…

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC. How is 2021 treating you so far?

5B: Thank you for having me, 2021 has been great to be honest, a lot better than last year so far. Money up, family doing great despite the case I’m currently fighting but I finally released my long awaited Debut EP, I, 5tash Bank$ now out on all DSP’s everywhere. So Life’s good, yu already snow.

NLM: You released your album ‘I, 5tash Bank$” last month. What is the public perception on the project so far?

5B: Based on the numbers, people are eating it it up! I’m up over 7,000 streams in just under 10 days on Spotify alone. I’ve started gain a growing fan base overseas in Holland, Australia and The Netherlands to name a few, which is pretty dope!! Right now , “Trvpbunkin” + & “RLA+” seem the fan favorites so far.

NLM: What inspired you to produce the album?

5B: I have been a working on the album for over two years now teasing my fans all the way since late 2018 through 2019 & this year, with early singles off the project like as “Benjii Frenzy” featuring Dionta Sullivan a.k.a. “Yung Caf”, and “ADAYGO” featuring Pluggy Simmons, and Philly Redface of the Formula Gang.

“I, 5TASH BANK$”, in my opinion, may go down as one of my best projects when it’s all said and done but only time will be able to tell. The project highlights n captures a unique and yet complex sound not quite heard or seen by the likes of anyone ever before. The entire EP is riddled with distinct flows, unorthodox cadences, and clever / beyond whit bars; the kind you have to play back a few times to catch; over an array of gritty beats meshed with a multitude of smooth sounds all to the very “Low” key that is “5tash”, pun intended. Executive Produced by my boy, Joshua Branden Welch aka Brutus The Melodist, & the Atlanta southside’s very own, Annie O, the EP consists of 15 original records and I feel like I definitely out did myself with this one and came thru with some major heat to start up and kick off 2021 in a strong way.

The EP is a masterpiece, content & production-wise to say the absolute least. The very distinct and familiar Intros to each song definitely give the project character and are reminiscent of another DMV Native, Wale’s More About Nothing, Series. Im sure this will be the project that separates me from the rest and what I need to gain the attention of the real industry heavy hitters & send me on my way to true stardom. With an assorted cast of production on the album from the likes of Princeamgn, Lito, Purls, Yung Glizzy, Guierrmo, 183realchance and of course his seemingly go to guys as of late, RXKZ & Brutus the Melodist.

NLM: What is/are your favourite single(s) from the album and why?

5B: ‘Personally it would be a tie between “ADDVICE+” & “Benjii Frenzy”. The energy on this Benjii is definitely crazy as always wen my bro Yung Caf gets on a record. But the subject matter and overall vibe of ADDVICE+ are “IT” for me and easily why I chose both to shoot visuals to first. My runner ups would have to be my lead single “No Hoe$” & “ ‘13 Durk” for sure. but I love all the songs on the album and had a very hard time not only selecting which ones, but even harder time deciding n locking in the final track order. The projects doormat record and first song on tracklist, “The FLORIST +” is definitely a personal favorite of mines b/c of the features, my boys Devon Burch aka Fly Von, Yung Caf & Meraki all came through with heat to pop the project off more than properly.

NLM: So how would you describe the album’s sound to potential fans?
5B: The overall Sound of “I, 5tash Bank$” can be described as a compilation of the different flavors of me and my different musical personalities all in one introduction project. I felt I had to give them a piece of all my different sides to display my range. It’s a blend of my older and newer sounds. Strong bars, distinct flows and unforgettable memories some familiar, but mostly unforeseen before. My tamber, tone and deep voice are something they haven’t heard the likes of since Devin the Dude & Nate Dogg. The EP is an overall vibe jammed packed with back to back lit singles that stand just as strong alone as they do assembled on the project.

NLM: If you had to feature one mainstream artist on the album, who would it be and why?

5B: ‘That’s definitely a great question and one I haven’t been asked yet so far in my press run. But to answer it simply I don’t think I would really want to feature any mainstream artist on my debut project because I wouldn’t want the weight of their name to be the reason people tune in. I felt that it was one of the best projects I could assemble without any major features however if I was to realistically reach out to someone to remix or possibly feature on the 2nd installation of the I, 5tash Banks trilogy series, it would have to be another artist with a similar complementing sound and weirdly enough but more importantly to me would have to have another “money-related” name like I do. For instance I would definitely consider reaching out to Moneybagg Yo’s team especially to tap in to that Memphis market. I would also strongly consider reaching out to Roddy Ricch’s team for a feature from as well, as I definitely do enjoy his work.

7) Did the Covid pandemic presented any drawbacks in the production of your album?

5B: COVID definitely threw a pretty big wrench in things for me as I’m sure it did for all of us, whether they’d like to admit it or not. From a production stand point, pretty much everything was unfortunately haulted when the lockdowns/shutdowns began. So I was left to try and work my magic in personal studios for the time being. I ended up linking up with a lot of my contacts here in Atlanta personally to get the project finished in home studios which was a pretty dope experience.

8) Do you have other project(s) for 2021?

5B: Yes I definitely do. In 2021 I plan to release an onslaught of new music and clear out the “5tash” as I’ve been sitting on a whole lot of music that I’m finally ready to package and deliver to the masses. My next project will be “I, The MELODIST” dropping tentatively in February. This will be for lack of better words, “a Side B” project to “I, 5TASH BANK$”, and display my vocal range as the artist formerly known as “The Melodist”. After that the onslaught continues with my 3rd studio project, “The Luxury of Abundance” and the 2nd installment of the “I, 5TASH BANK$”, trilogy series by the end of the year with a couple collab projects with my fellow Greenfolkz! artists sprinkled in between.

NLM: How can potential fan find you?

5B: You can find me and the entire gang on all Streaming platforms under 5tash or Greenfolkz! Where ever music is found you can find us!

NLM: Finally, any special shoutouts to those involved in the production of ‘‘I, 5tash Bank$’’?

5B: MAJOR SHOUTOUTS to the producers on the project Princeamgn, Lito, Purls, Yung Glizzy, Guierrmo, 183realchance and of course my go to guys as of late, RXKZ & Joshua Branden Welch aka Brutus the Melodist, & the Atlanta southside’s very own, Annie O, who Executive Produced the project along with myself.

Finally to you New Lease Music for the continued love and support. Thank you all for your time.

Album Interview: Fly Von – Rawest 2

Virginia’s RAWEST rapper, FLY VON makes a quick return to the blog’s interview hot seat to discuss his latest album, ‘RAWEST 2’, out now for your pleasure.

‘RAWEST 2’ serves as the build-up to his project, ‘FlyMix Vol.1’, which claimed the blog’s Album of the Week title for three consecutive weeks.

To read his previous interview on the album, head right here

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC. Any New Year’s resolutions?

FV: The pleasure is all mine, I love these interviews lol. Thank you for having me again. And hmm if I had to make one, it would be to drop at least three albums this year.

NLM: You released your album ‘Rawst 2’ late last year. What is the public perception on the project so far?

FV: So far the people are loving it! I’m over 1,200 streams in just under 3 weeks. I’ve developed a major fan base overseas in Belgium, Australia and Spain as well which is really amazing!! Also so far ‘Pina Loca Smoke’ is the fan favorite right now.

NLM: What inspired you to produce the album?

FV: After the success of FlyMix Vol. 1, I went back and started listening to the 1st RAWEST album. I started wondering “maybe I should get back in that zone and that mode.” The RAWEST series is about breaking rules, barriers, genres and simply creating music that fully expresses who I am.

NLM: What is/are your favourite single(s) from the album and why?

FV: ‘Tokyo Tees’, the energy from this song is so strong! Makes me feel like a ninja in an action movie lol perfect night time vibes. 2nd would be Pina Loca Smoke, I’m pretty sure this is the most beautiful song I’ve written to date. I play it every morning and every night. Perfect song for a smoke session or just to escape and get away.

NLM: So how would you describe the album’s sound to potential fans?

FV: The Sound of RAWEST 2 can be described as me and my personality put to music. Confident and strong deliveries mixed with glimpses of me being vulnerable on melodies. The album is fun! It gets you let go, escape and enjoy the moment.

NLM: How does the sound of ‘Rawest 2’ compare to your earlier albums?

FV: In comparison, I would say RAWEST 2 has elements of all my previous projects mixed into one. Increasing my melodies was drawn from RAWEST 1.5, Using unorthodox flows on heavy trap beats comes from Lone Wolf. Slowing down tempos, adding alternative sounds came from the original RAWEST album. This one brings it all together.

NLM: If you had to feature one mainstream artist on the album, who would it be and why?

FV: Wiz Khalifa or Kid Cudi would have been great on the album lol! Both of those guys embody the same vision I have with music. They don’t let people box them in or give them rules. Cudi and his harmonies on “Pina Loca Smoke” would have been AMAZING. Wiz would have definitely brought “Stars in My Eyes” to a whole new level. One day, it’s gonna happen lol. Chris brown would be great on “Do The Math” too lol

NLM: Do you have other project(s) for 2021?

FV: Deluxe version of RAWEST 2 is coming next.
I have a collab album with JDC Beats after that and then a secret surprise third album that you will have to stay tuned for lol.

NLM: How can potential fan find you?

FV: I’m on all Streaming platforms under Fly Von
Twitter: @ SirBasstoven
IG: @ flyvon_

NLM: Finally, any special shoutouts to those involved in the production of ‘Rawest 2’?

FV: Oh yes!! JDC Beats, i.d Beats, Everything Hectic, Deon (@firstclassdeon on IG), and myself lol. Big shoutout and much love to them. Also new lease music for the continued love and support. Thank you all as well.

Head right HERE to check out  Fly Von’s RAWEST 2 album.

Interview with: Fly Von

FLY VON (also known as EDM producer, Sir Basstoven) has been one of NEW LEASE MUSIC’s staples since 2013, supplying super slick tracks like ‘Dreams’, ‘Stay The Night’ and ‘Tell Me Wassup’. He also dished up a string of mixtapes including, ‘Rawest’ and ‘Lone Wolf’ before taking a lengthy hiatus from music.

2020 sees the Virginia rapper returning – rawer than ever – with his latest mixtape, ‘FlyMix Vol.1’, which claimed the blog’s Album of the Week title for three consecutive weeks.

So here’s your chance to find out more about this fly talent and what he’s cooking up for the rest of the year…

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC. How’s life treating you?

FV: Life is pretty good, the while Covid situation is a lot to deal with but I’ve been making the best of it. Trying to stay positive and optimistic.

NLM: You released your album ‘FlyMix Vol.1’ earlier this year (which claimed New Lease Music’s Album of the Week title three times in a row). Have you received other accolades on the album?

FV: Not that I can think of (laughs). The lead single, my remix to Boom Boom Room did get over 1000 streams on Soundcloud. Big thank you to you for that (laughs).

NLM: What inspired you to produce the album?

FV: It was really random and spur of the moment honestly. I kept freestyling in the car to songs on the radio and I was like damn it’s time to get back in the music.

NLM: What is/are your favourite single(s) from the album and why?

FV: The Roddy Ricch remix has to be my favorite cause I mean that’s what started the whole Fly Mix idea. GNF also only took me 2 takes to record, love that beat.

NLM: So how would you describe your sound to potential fans?

FV: I would say it varies and depends on the vibe of the track. I can be melodic and smooth for hooks and give you heavy hitter bars for verses in the same session. My sound is rebellious, I say what I want and nobody can stop that.

NLM: Do you have other project(s) on the horizon?

FV: The Rawest 2 album (my 1st studio album) is pretty much 75% done and my goal is to have it out by December. Fans are gonna love this. It’s truly my best work to date.

NLM: How has the current climate (CoVid19 pandemic) and lockdown affected you as an artist?

FV: Staying indoors and away from people has been perfect for me (laughs) I’ve had so much time to create, record and produce. Getting in hours of music every day is the best feeling ever.

NLM: What advice would you give to new artists who are trying to get noticed in these challenging times?

FV: My biggest advice would be remain yourself. Don’t sell out or copy to get noticed. Also be patient, nothing of value happens overnight. Weed helps too (laughs).

NLM: How can potential fans contact you?

FV: My big 2 for socials is Twitter and Instagram. @SirBasstoven on twitter and @flyvon_ on Instagram. As far as the music I’m on all digital streaming platforms except for tidal. The album will be on there as well just not the singles.

NLM: Finally, if music did not exist, what profession would you do?

FV: I definitely would continue to pursue my original dream of playing in the NBA. If that didn’t work, I would love to run a weed farm or weed business.

Interview with: Stacey Pierre

Introducing singer/songwriter STACEY PIERRE into NEW LEASE MUSIC’s hot seat – and on your music radar. The emerging artist has hooked up with UK Garage producer Obsidian Cane for track, ‘Body Talk’, taken from his EP Reset. Obsidian Cane was one of the key players in the UKG movement back in the nineties who scored a hit with club filler, ‘I Need A Rhythm’ as UKG duo KP, alongside fellow producer Paul Benjamin.

So get acquainted with this UK talent as she dishes up her next move for the rest of the year and her coping mechanism during the pandemic…

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC. How’s 2020 treating you so far?

SP: Thank you so much for having me! Considering the circumstances, it actually hasn’t been too bad. There were a few projects that have been put on hold, but this has given me time that I didn’t realise I needed to focus on myself and get a plan in place for my career moving forward.

NLM: Your single ‘Body Talk’ was released under Obsidian Cane’s UKG EP, ‘Reset’ in August. What sparked the collaboration?

SP: The idea of us collaborating came up after I applied to a job he posted online. We both saw the potential in each other and decided to stay in touch. The working relationship grew from there.

NLM: What’s the public’s reception on ‘Body Talk’?

SP: I’ve had really good feedback so far! Two things that keep coming up are my voice and the drop that introduces the second verse. It’s very different from my style as a solo artist so I’m really happy that my listeners are engaging with this collab.

NLM: What was it like working with Obsidian Cane, one of the figureheads of the UKG movement back in the nineties?

SP: Well, I when we first started making plans towards working together, I could tell he knew his craft and had experience, but it was a revelation to me once he started taking in more depth about the things he had accomplished. He’s truly excellent at what he does and it’s an honour to be working wit him.

NLM: Are there any plans to work with Obsidian in the future?

SP: 100 per cent, we are working on new music as we speak! This collaboration has really opened my eyes to the possibilities when branching out into new genres. I’m so grateful for his patience and willingness to allow my style to shine through in the music.

NLM: Do you have other musical projects on the go?

SP: Yes I do. I’m working on a solo project, a second EP. A follow up to my first; EDEN. I can be a bit of a perfectionist, so things sometimes take a little longer than they should, but I figure if I’m sharing a piece of myself with the world, why not take the extra time to make sure it’s something I’m proud of.

NLM: How has the current climate (CoVid19 pandemic) and lockdown affected you as an artist?

SP: A few jobs musical opportunities have been put on hold, which is frustrating but as I mentioned in my first answer, it has given me the time to re-evaluate myself as an artist. There have been many times before the pandemic where I would see others progression and feel that I should be doing more, which would actually halt my growth, but this space has given me the opportunity to realise that everyone’s journey is different and I should just focus on enjoying mine.

NLM: What advice would you give to new artists who are trying to get noticed in these challenging times?

SP: I would say, firstly think outside of the box. The market is saturated with new music, so be true to yourself and don’t follow the crowd. Be pro-active but smart, if you can build a support network of trusted people to help motivate you and even share tasks based on each others strengths, it will help ease any pressure and keep ideas fresh. And lastly, always have your reasons as to WHY you’re doing this. There will be times when its very hard or unfruitful, but when you are grounded in your reasons it will help you through.

NLM:  How can potential fans contact you?

SP: People can get in touch via social media:- Instagram, Facebook or Twitter @spierremusic and I also have a website http://www.staceypierremusic.com

NLM: Finally, if music did not exist, what profession would you do?

SP: Firstly, that would suck! But, I would certainly do something artistic, the thought of spending the day in an office makes me want to cry! So either an artist or wood worker- anything that would allow me to create.

Interview with: Kastilano

It’s time to welcome back one of NEW LEASE MUSIC’s dopest staples, KASTILANO into the interview seat.

The Philly rapper first appeared on the blog with track, ‘Still Dreaming in 2013, where the accompanied video received the most views on the blog that year. More recently, his track, ‘Heart & Soul’, was named Song of the Week by the blog in October 2019.

Find out what he’s been to up and how he’s coping with CoVid19 lockdown. NEW ARTISTS take note as this killer rapper have some valuable advice on how to stay ahead of the game during these challenging times!

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC. It has been some time since we last hooked up (last interview was back in 2014). What have you been up to? (include non-music projects, if possible)

K: Hello and thank you for having me back. It’s been a minute so of course I’ve been cooking up since we last spoke. I dropped at least 8 projects and I’ve even learned to direct and edit my own music videos releasing them on my YouTube channel “KillEm KaStilano”.

I’ve started vlogging this past year on different topics like battle rap, album reviews and other thoughts that came to mind. Those videos can be found on my “KillEmTv” channel on YouTube which I also sat behind the camera and became the interviewer which I actually enjoy so please make sure to subscribe to both if you haven’t already. Any and everything else is in the music so tune in.

NLM: So what track(s)/ project(s) do you have coming up?

K: I’m currently 90% finish the long awaited ‘S.H.I.E.L.D 2’ EP which is the sequel and I’m very proud to say I feel it’s even better than the first, filled with more reality rap at it’s finest mixed with elevated flows and some modern day type of beats plus that old school boom bap sound. Next, I will drop ‘The City’s Hero 3: Sinner Meets Savior’ mixtape which is about 75% done. This has a more conscious feel of approach where I touch on much more topics in detail raising the bar and challenging myself on another level. Switching my style of rap to the content and all. I feel with everything going on it would be a disservice to act blind and not acknowledge the more important things in life, so trust me this jawn will hit different. Expect both of these this year and I might have another project come 4th quarter of 2020.

NLM: For anyone who is unfamiliar with your work, how would you describe your sound and what inspires you to produce your tracks?

K: That’s a good question. I say my sound is uniquely independent of the majority of what you hear today. I remain in my own lane not sounding like anyone nor looking to conform to what is the in sound. I’m stubborn and will only do it my way so expect that. Expect non apologetic reality bars based on my life and those close to more or around me. I paint vivid pictures with a street point of view but also a common sense point of view. I’ll forever give you both sides of the coin.

Now what inspires me is still the beat, I mean it speaks to me 1st and foremost. Outside of that everybody and everything that’s not me inspires me to be me from the dope artist on down to those I’m not too fond of. It all fuels the fire in me to write for our youth and my peers bringing something different to the table creating some sort of balance out here. I always play my music  to people, from old to new so they can see the growth. It’s that acknowledgement that inspires me for strangers to say they really respect what I do.

NLM: How has the current climate (CoVid19 pandemic) and lockdown affected you as an artist who is always pumping out music?

K: Fortunately, it hasn’t affected me at all. I’m always working and such a perfectionist, I usually have a bunch of unreleased music which allows me to drop music consistently whenever I want. Now I have only been to the studio once since Covid19 but I usually record about 3 songs per hour. Recently I haven’t been shooting videos nor performing even before this pandemic but my numbers have actually been up so I can’t complain.

NLM: What advice would you give to new artists who are trying to get noticed in these challenging times?

K: Take your time, dig deep and write your best material. Don’t force anything and if you’re able to record, do so and release some music old or new it doesn’t matter long as it’s good. Take advantage while people are in slow motion. Use your platform to the best of your ability to promote at least once a day. Lastly, but most importantly, believe in yourself and build strong solid relationships with those who believe in you. BE YOURSELF!!!

NLM: If there’s ONE mainstream artist you would like to spend time with during the lockdown period, who would it be and why?

NLM: I honestly was gonna say nobody, but after thinking a minute I’d say Kayne West. He seemed to have struggled spiritually for some time (as we all do or have at some point) but he is clearly gifted musically. Now for me I was never a fan of him nor his music (which I thought was OK). I really only heard his last two albums fully which I really enjoyed. For him to denounce the music he once made and proclaim JESUS Is King on his last album I feel is very courageous and I commend him for it. That actually inspired and gave me the confidence to do many songs on ‘The City’s Hero 3: Sinner Meets Saviour’ mixtape. I’d be honored to sit and bust it up with him about his journey and what led up to this point. I actually can somewhat relate and I empathise with the brother to give up what you once thought was everything only to realise it really meant nothing.

NLM: What is the first thing you would like to do once the lockdown period is over?

K: Go to the house of prayer and worship with fellow believers! To be truthful I’ve
been having the time of my life being able to spend time with my family I don’t
normally have the time to. I’m working out  more not as stressed because my
worries of fast life have come to a halt.

I’m so grateful my family and I are still blessed during these times so, most
importantly, I can study God’s word more than I ever have during this time right
now. I encourage all to take advantage I mean store bathrooms are clean now,
people are giving you 6 feet in line, life is being taken more seriously. It’s a
beautiful time to be alive I’m in no rush to get back to what is so called normal.

NLM: So what are your plans for the rest of the year?

K: I wanna put these next few projects out and drop some videos along with it.
Continue to build solid relationships with the right people and even collaborate
with more talented dope artists. Hopefully I’d like to bring more great content
vlogging more and doing more interviews with those who bring forth greatness
that I can share with my followers. Most importantly, I wanna continue to grow
level up and mature.

NLM: How can potential fans contact you?

K: Any who wanna support me can follow me @215KKastilano on IG & Twitter.
https://www.facebook.com/215KKastilano/

Get all my mixtapes here
https://www.datpiff.com/profile/KillEmKastilano

Lastly search “KaStilano” on all platforms to find my latest singles!
https://spinnup.link/287965-divide-conquer

NLM: Finally, if music didn’t exist, what profession would you do?

K: Since a youth, I would have normally said a basketball player but now I would
probably say an author or an artist of some sort because I love to create
bringing different thoughts and ideas to life.

Before I slide I gotta say thank you for the continuous support you have shown
me I really appreciate it. Also I want to acknowledge all of your hard work put in
throughout the years and encourage you to keep going. I’m outta here so until
next time it’s KillEm!!!
