Star Song: It’s Over Now – Kin4Life

Ki4Life Money Brings Trouble

Today’s song is It’s Over Now by female rap duo KIN4LIFE. The track is coming from their latest album, Money Brings Trouble, released in August under their label, Noriq Records.

Now these girls have been featured on NEW LEASE MUSIC twice (with tracks Goes Up with DJ CELLBLOCK and Never Stop with LIQUOR STORE BANDIT and PALEFACE JUNKIES).Now this time they got their own spot and now it’s time to find out a little more about these hot properties…

Born and raised in Mt Vernon, New York (a town renowned for its contribution to hip hop in the 80’s and 90’s) lifetime friends Nor and IQ decided to put their hometown back on the hip hop map with their KELLIS/NEPTUNES-esque beats – and at that point, they never look back! Launching their record label in 2002, they waste no time in releasing the album KIN4LIFE Volume.1 and two EPs, Rock Star and I Love Kin4Life. Success soon followed when the video to their hit single, Make Up Girl, was on the Click List Countdown on MTV’s logo for 11 weeks and was nominated for The Click List’s Top Ten Videos of 2009.

These female emcees- who collaborated with DJ JAZZY JEFF, LIL FLIP and BLACK ICE–headlined the GQ Magazine New York Nightlife Award Show as well as Pride celebration in New York, Atlanta and Philadelphia. Best of all, they were named Group of the Year by HipHop.com 2010 Readers Poll.

Without a shadow of a doubt they deserve the hype – just listen to It’s Over Now. Their raw wordplay coupled with their signature beats just shows that female rappers are not dead in the hip hop game.

If you’re feeling It’s Over Now, head over to iTunes where you can check the rest of the tracks on the album Money Brings Troubles.

Star Song: Smiley Face – Aimi D

Aimi D

Now here’s something that will keep you going for the weekend! Open your ears to this bad-boy of a tune – Smiley Face – by AIMI D

After studying musical theatre, training with jazz vocalists and singing for rock bands, this British-born pop-princess – whose real name is Catharine Dinsdale – was more than ready to break out as a solo artist. She started penning songs which formed her debut EP Who Is She? Released in June 2012.

Her style of music is best described as simply playful, feel good pop infused with electro-dance that will put a spring in your step and put a huge smile on your face- well just listen to the first single of the EP, Smiley Face. Released in July – perfect timing I must say)– this fun, bubblegum pop/dance production is well suited to bars and clubs in the party land of Ibiza.

Star Song: The Phoenix – Tom Mitchell.

Tom Mitchell New World

Today’s song is The Phoenix by British singer/songwriter TOM MITCHELL. The single is coming from his debut album, New World.

Before going solo, the Bristol-based soft folk rocker was a supporting guitarist for 20 years and has worked with artists such as DUFFY.  In July he released his album which offers the perfect infusion of acoustic guitars and angelic harmonies. It was a tough job choosing a favourite, but The Phoenix made it to the star song spot, as it’s simply a pure and simple production, where you will be immediately drawn into this guy’s angelic vocals and the lone guitar. Breathtaking.

If you’ve been drawn in by The Phoenix, you certainly won’t be disappointed by the album –New World is available  on ITunes.

Star Song: Here and There- Rushil

rushillToday’s song is Here and There by indie rocker RUSHIL. The track is coming from his debut album, Oscillations, released in January.

Indian-born RUSHIL always had an unflappable passion for music, hailing THE FRAYS, JAMES MORRISON, BOB DYLAN and ERIC CLAPTON as his biggest influence. From the age of 14, he formed a band with his friends and at that point he had the burning desire to become a credible artist. Fate was on his side when a producer spotted his raw talent and under his guidance, RUSHIL started producing his own material which led to his standout debut album.

If you haven’t heard of RUSHIL, the easy-cruising Here and There is the perfect introduction, as you get to experience his smooth and slightly-husky-typically-rock vocals – absolutely stunning!

If you love the sound of Here and There, take a trip to iTunes, where you can check out the album Oscillations. For now, check out his equally cool but hard-hitting video to Here and There – brilliant!
