Album Review: Meesh – Tunnel Traffic

It’s been some time (I think roughly a year and a half) since Adam Hachey, the brainchild of TUNNEL TRAFFIC, appeared on NEW LEASE MUSIC with his 2015 album, ‘Absolute Dreams’. Out of nowhere, this alternative folk-rocker recently emailed his new album, ‘Meesh, in which he produced while making his big shift to the City of Brotherly Love.

Unlike his previous collection, which was an atmospherically intense affair, ‘Meesh’ gets right down to it with bursts of zesty guitar licks through the first few tracks, ‘Lesson Learned’, ‘Pockets’ and ‘Anew’.

The psychedelic ride passes and makes way for a softer journey of lo-fi/new wave(ish) arrangements and the rich influence of that  70s inspired soulful rock, before turning up the tempo through efforts, ‘Maxwell’ and ‘All Day, Err Day.’

The latter part of the album is what I personally think is classic TRAFFIC TUNNEL. With the return of the zesty guitar plucks, the almost stripped back pieces becomes intense and personal, where you can not only hear, but FEEL every word uttered.

‘Meesh’ sees Adam comes out of his comfort zone and go down the experimentation route, which is great – but personally, he’s at his best when he perform songs that hone right into the soul.

New Track: Hope – Aria

Living in London, hailing from Gloucester, with an Italian/Jamaican heritage, ARIA’s unique sound is an infectious dose of electronic pop laden with dreamy tones. Her previous release ‘Shot in the Dark’ was the perfect introduction for the singer-songwriter that sent her straight into the spotlight. The song amassed a surge of support from both streaming and blogs, followed by a remarkable live performance at The Garage in London.

Making a return with new self-penned single ‘Hope’, ARIA shows a more vulnerable side. She reaches the height of vocal limits with poise and ease, emerging with a colourful performance that creates remarkable pop thrills, resting on a bed of melancholic guitars and driving synth-bass lines.

ARIA’s propulsive pop qualities are adaptable and captivating. This is demonstrated in her EP set for release before the end of the year, which displays an eclectic mix of musical genres – spanning from electro-pop and soul to RnB.

You CANNOT miss out on this one…have a listen to this stunning single…

New Track: What’s Done Is Done – Alisha Brown

ALISHA BROWN is a London-based singer/songwriter who explores different genres, including R&B, gospel and reggae. Her lyrical content is empowering which encourages others to overcome traumatic experiences.

In her brand new single ‘What’s Done Is Done’, which features singer Natty Joshia and rapper Triple O, Alisha draws from her experience of being raped and how the love of God helped her to heal from the painful experience.

Processing influences of 90s R&B, ‘What’s Done Is Done’ was produced and co-written by Luke Grant (GKID), who added the story of a single mother, who left a bad relationship with the father of her child.

Alisha has previously released singles ‘The Apple Of My Eye’ and ‘Let It Be Revealed In Me’. ‘Apple Of My Eye’ received attention on Urban Gospel Radio (Dave P) and BBC Luton.

In addition to her solo career, Alisha has been featured on numerous musical projects. The young songstress was involved in ‘Paul Hardcastle’s, updated version of his 80′s hit, ’19’ and ‘Sonz of Thunder UK’s track ‘He’s Been Good To Me’. She was also the backing vocalist for Faye Simpson, (former lead singer of Nu Colours) and has been a member of groups, ‘Free2B’ and ‘David’s Praise’.

Now 2017 sees this powerhouse continue to touch and heal people’s lives through her new heartfelt single.

New Track: Every Country – JayKae (ft. Murkage Dave)

Bringing a throwback, old-school garage inspired sound for the summer months, Birmingham hip-hop artist JAYKAE and east London artist and DJ Murkage Dave – also part of Tonga and one half of the UK alt-R&B duo HALFBROTHER – have released their new track ‘Every Country’.

Produced by Skepta, the track came together after the pair previously collaborated on the Tonga record ‘CCTV’ last year. The accompanied visual was directed by Luke Sparrowhawk of Birmingham’s P110 and was shot in Paris, where Murkage Dave had been working on music, bringing to life the refrain of having a ‘peng ting in every country’.

First performing the track as a part of JAYKAE’s headline show at MADE festival in his hometown, the duo are set to perform ‘Every Country’ again at Reading & Leeds Festival during JAYKAE’s set later this month.

Putting Birmingham’s grime scene firmly on the map, JAYKAE first picked up the mic in 2009 which subsequently led to him becoming a part of the city’s prominent squad Invasion Alert. Known for his strong flow, dynamic delivery and authentic style, which draws deeply from his own life experiences, his focus on his solo career recently saw him supporting Skepta on the Birmingham date on the Konnichiwa tour.

He recently featured on Skepta’s all-star remix of the hit single ‘That’s Not Me’ and alongside collaborations with his Birmingham cohorts Dapz On The Map and Lotto Boyzz he has worked with breakout UK rap star Mist. With recent sets at Glastonbury, Lovebox and #Merky Festival in Ibiza under his belt, JAYKAE continues to prove why his electric energy and show-stopping lyrical talent make him a crucial part of the UK’s grime scene and the essential voice to his city.
