New Track: Haters – Line Mari

haters-line-mari

LINE MARI released her latest single, Haters, which displays the Norwegian newcomer  laying her gorgeously wispy vocals over brooding and heartfelt pianos before erupting into a soaring chorus to a backdrop of tropical-tinged synths.

Line was born in Tromsø, also living for some time in Svalbard, one of the most Northerly inhabited places in the world. As a child, she grew up regularly witnessing the beauty of the Northern Lights, as well as once having a close encounter with a polar bear whilst at Kindergarten.

A highly versatile musician, Line not only sings and writes her own music, she also plays a number of instruments including guitar, piano and harmonica (she is currently also learning to play the fiddle). She has a keen interest in vintage music and vintage guitars and owns several custom-made guitars and her own custom-made pedal-board.

Haters and previous single Crush are set to appear on Line’s upcoming album, which fans can grab hold of this month. The album was recorded at the legendary Abbey Roads studio, recorded with major producer Rob Cass and electronica producer Pearse MacIntyre.

So here’s some words of encouragement; have a listen to Haters.

New Track: Time – Sevdaliza

time-new-single

After the success of her self-released enigmatic EP Children of Silk and the worldwide screening of her debut short film The FormulaSEVDALIZA  had an incredible year of touring the world independently without having to release her debut album. Now the songstress/producer is back with her latest piece of music, Time.

The avant-garde number has been crafted over the past year and a half, and was composed in five different countries by SEVDALIZA

Her melancholic, visceral voice floats over beds of mechanical instrumentation, creating dynamics of chaos and order. Hailing from the Netherlands, SEVDALIZA’s songs have a philosophical questioning character and her air of independent power is strongly present throughout her career.

Diverse comparisons have been drawn yet it remains a difficulty to specify her in a particular genre. Rhythmic tensions build slowly into chaotic climaxes. Every retribution of her lyrics become more intense and personal, yet she isn’t able to break from that obscure statue of a woman.

So get ready to hear innovation at its best; it’s time to check out Time.

Song of the Day: Flex Your Way Out – Sofi de la Torre (ft. Blackbear)

sofi-de-la-torreSOFI DE LA TORRE, the Spanish singer from the Canary Islands, shares her newest single, Flex Your Way Out featuring multi-talented LA artist Blackbear, earlier this month, under the self-styled banner #PopDoneRight.

The track finds the two singers mirroring their dreamy vocals over Finnish pop producer Jonas Karlsson’s soothing, trap-infused instrumental. Whilst SOFI DE LA TORRE is exposing a darker and more introverted side, as she laments the end of a relationship, the overall feel is one of closure and optimism.

Blackbear rose to fame as a co-writer on Justin Bieber’s 2012 hit Boyfriend. Since then the 25-year old producer has developed an intriguing musical persona – pursuing R&B and rap influences and working with hip-hop artists such as Childish Gambino and Machine Gun Kelly, as well as Pharrell Williams and James Blake.

Following the success of Sofi’s track Vermillion, which gained support from the Guardian, TIME Magazine and Billboard, Flex Your Way Out serves as the perfect showcase of Sofi’s continued ability to craft hit records. With a currently untitled EP expected to follow, the anticipation has certainly been mounting since Sofi’s latest project, Mess’ which debuted autumn 2015, and received praise across the board from Noisey to Pop Justice.

Resolutely independent, Sofi’s latest release provides an introverted perspective to her unique pop style. Performing under the banner of #PopDoneRight, she continues to stress how pop should be heartfelt, original and accessible. ‘Flex Your Way Out’ serves as an introduction for many and embodies the sound that Sofi has pioneered, whilst standing as a testament to her artistic growth in 2016.

BELLA LOKA have been busy behind the cameras, as they released another visual to mystical/uplifting single, Rise Up, released last month via iTunes.

Tea Boothby describes the latest effort as, “a love story between the day and the night, the light and the dark. Having become separated ‘in the beginning’ the light and the dark are irresistibly drawn back together, with seemingly opposing chess pieces depicting how love can appear as a battle, until it’s won.”

As part of the production of the video, Tea stood motionless against the iconic London skyline on Primrose Hill for 5 hours from dawn as the sun came up to film time-lapse footage of herself against the rolling clouds and shifting shadows.

Take a few minutes out and watch the video for Rise Up.
