Song of the Day: Sad and Bored – Bülow (ft. DUCKWRTH)

Critically acclaimed German born pop iconoclast BÜLOW presents her melancholic single ‘Sad and Bored, taken from her latest EP, ‘Damaged’, released earlier the month.

Of the song, she comments, “I was imaging myself trapped in a metaphorical cage of my own boredom. Duckworth’s voice and lyrics helped bring those visuals to life.”

Beyond ‘Sad and Bored’, the EP will boast the stark and soulful ‘You & Jennifer’ as well as the shimmering and vulnerable “Honor Roll”, full track listing below. This summer, she takes this enigmatic sound on the road, launching a full-scale European festival takeover.

After releasing her powerful debut ‘Damaged Vol. 1’, BÜLOW has instantly resonated with critics and new fans alike. With her first ever single going straight to the top of the charts, BÜLOW has announced to the world that she has arrived.

The tracks ‘Like This Guy’, ‘Lines’, and ‘Not A Love Song’ have clocked over 30 million streams, reaching the Spotify Global Viral chart and earning praise as “beautifully crafted” (NME), “pop genius” (Noisey), and a “star in the making” (Pigeon & Planes).

A child of the globe, the bright-eyed young singer has grown up in five countries including Canada, Germany, the UK, the US, and is currently finishing high-school in The Netherlands. Although BÜLOW has only just begun her musical journey with these three sentimental, playful, and haunting tracks, “Damaged Vol 1” stands tall as an impressive flag-bearer for things to come….

Time to check out ‘Sad and Bored’…and if you have time, be sure to check out her latest EP, as this alt-songstress is definitely worth the hype.

Song of the Day: Looking For You – Steele

STEELE ‘s latest dark pop number ‘Looking For You’, seamlessly fuses elements of post-rock and trip-hop with electro pop. Likened to Imogen Heap and Bjork but with her own recognisable stamp, the Swedish alt-songbird is raising eyebrows around the globe.

She was featured in Rolling Stone – three times – and also appeared at Elle’s 2017 fashion show, which put her at the brink of something huge but tragedy struck when she was struck down with meningitis, leaving her with epilepsy and a complete lifestyle change. This has merely forged her resolve further to succeed within the music industry and to date, STEELE‘s songs have collectively reached over five million plays on streaming services.

‘Looking For You’ is the follow-up to her stunning ballad ‘Temporary Love’, both of which appear on her soon to be released debut album ‘Paroxysm’ on 13th.

New Music Video: Take A Picture – Sub Blue

UK Alt-R&B phenom, SUB BLUE, releases the music video for new single ‘Take a Picture’ produced by acclaimed U.S producers A.V & Sir Dylan.

The three-minute production finds the youngster speaking about the ills of selfie and social media culture as well as narcissism over smooth mid—tempo electronic R&B production.

EP Review: Abyssopelagic – Oloff

When Oloff Johnson – or simply known as OLOFF– slipped me his EP ‘Abyssopelagic’ earlier last month, he mentioned that the latest body of work was a mixture of genres – from straight up hip-hop to the ambient and the experimental. Boy, he’s definitely not wrong there.

As the mini set kicks off with an upbeat, 808 state inspired number, ‘Doing It Stealthy’ – featured on NEW LEASE MUSIC last month – it suddenly flips, going through floaty/spaced out soundscapes which, no doubt, puts you in a hypnotic state within seconds. The young wordsmith’s contrasting wayward flow punches through the atmospheric arrangements, adding a unique vibrancy.

I have to say ‘Abyssopelagic’ EP is an acquired taste. Test it out below:
