Premiere: Devil’s Locker (Video) – Henny Knightz

Following the success of his enigmatic, self biographical project ‘The Random House Of Evil’ – which squashes all myths regarding the glamorisation of poverty, depression and ‘the ends’ – rising Hackney artist HENNY KNIGHTZ drops visuals for his new single ‘Devil’s Locker’.

Revealed as the foundation of the EP, ‘Devil’s Locker’ merges a nostalgic, soulful backdrop to unapologetically honest Henny. Encapsulated by the visual geniuses that are the Foolish Professionals (E.Greaves & Anarfi Lloyd), the accompanied video illustrates the duality of a suicidal introvert growing up in the ‘Ends’ of Hackney.

Henny is one half of duo The Knighthood Society featuring fellow rapper Nicki Knightz. Henny executively produced Nicki’s 2020 ‘For The Uninformed EP’ to critical acclaim, and has been covered by Trench Magazine, Earmilk, RWD Magazine, GUAP Mag and GRM Daily.

Watch Nicki Knightz’s ‘India Arie’ Video

One of Hackney’s promising rappers, NICKI KNIGHTZ gives a vivid account of dealing with her hair and her identity while growing up an innercity area in her latest video for single, ‘India Arie’, directed by Sau Ali.

Boasting a nostralgic bluesy soul instrumentation, serving as the backdrop for Nicki’s brutally raw narrative, ‘Indie Arie’ forms part of her critically-acclaimed EP, ‘The Uninformed’, produced by rapper and label mate of The Knighthood Society, Henny Knightz. Henny’s video for new single, ‘Devil’s Locker’ will premiere on NEW LEASE MUSIC today at noon.

Until then, have a peek at Nicki’s video for ‘India Arie’.

EP Review: For The Uninformed – Nicki Knightz

I’ve always known NICKI KNIGHTZ to be that rapper who fiercely take on the boldest of the boldest arrangements with her no nonsense flow, but her latest EP, ‘For The Uninformed’, has caught me off guard. With the exception of the drum bass heavy/Congolese guitar sample, ‘Blacker the Berry,’ which pays homage to her father’s work ethic, the EP shows a soft and perhaps a more vulnerable side to the Hackney native.

The three-track set sees Nicki focusing on the neglected identity issues of being biracial, eliminating any glamorized images of being a light skinned person. In second effort, ‘India Arie’, Nicki gives a vivid account of the problems her parents faced when contending with her hair, over a warped soulful/jazz instrumentation. An old-school soulful drive makes its presence known and runs sombrely throughout concluding track, ‘1964 Howlett Drive’, serving as the perfect backdrop for Nicki’s uncharacteristically emotive delivery, which gives an insight of her experiencing her mother’s culture and its heartbreakingly stark contrast to their life in the innercity area.

A complete 180 to her sonically boisterous 2018 debut EP ‘Hate’, ‘For The Uninformed’ takes on a more minimalist theme, allowing the uninformed to really soak up and resonate with the experience of her childhood.

Song of the Day: Kill – Henny Knightz

HENNY KNIGHTZ makes his entry on the blog a blazing concept single, titled ‘Kill’.

The accompanied video features the Hackney Avant Garde Rapper and producer forcibly ridding himself of habitual destructive behaviours. The video portrays a more likeable, attractive Henny Knightz, cleansed of his superficial imperfections but thwarted by the anarchic ticks of a frustrated emotional hooligan.

Henny Knightz is one half of the seminal duo The Knighthood Society alongside rapper Nicki Knightz. This is his first solo release since ‘Track Red’ back in 2019.
