EP Review: #DontSleepOnJAS – J.A.S

Jayd Soliar – better known as J.A.S – has bounced back with the first release of the year, which shapes up be a six-track set entitled ‘#DontSleepOnJAS’ – out today on all major digital platforms, including iTunes and Spotify.

Following the epic release of ‘The Massacre’ – which premiered on NEW LEASE MUSIC last September – I wondered if this latest package would be, at least, on par with the collaborative effort.

Featuring a melting pot of talents, ‘#DontSleepOnJAS’ introduces a boisterous bass which runs throughout the collection, bouncing off echoic soundscapes. Each featured vocals add a layer to the contrasting arrangements, creating a rich three-dimensional (almost holographic) feel.

So just to answer the question: is the EP, at least, on par with the single ‘The Massacre?’. Gonna say that the singles on ‘#DontSleepOnJAS’ have way surpass the track and it goes without saying that you won’t fall asleep on this South African producer’s latest body of work. Check it out below:

Must Listens: I Feel Alive, Game Switch, Drowning, Shipwrecked

New Track: TBH? – Daydreamers (ft. Supa K & Lera)

Following their EP ‘Meanwhile: The EP’, released at the beginning of the year, DAYDREAMERS have promised they’ll roll out a series of tracks throughout the 2018…so here’s the first of many entitled ‘TBH?’.

Since their entry on NEW LEASE MUSIC last summer, the trio’s musical direction has taken a mature turn and this latest joint is a prime example: sporting arrangements inspired by 90’s slow jam, these guys have adopted an ultra smooth flow that’s heartfelt and sincere.

Keep your eyes peeled on NEW LEASE MUSIC for future releases from these reformed emcees…but for now, hit that play button on ‘TBH?’

New Track: Oh Jane – Otis Mensah

Following the release of mellow/melancholic track, ‘Day Dream’ back in December, OTIS MENSAH delivers another moody yet toe-curling piece, taken in shape of ‘Oh Jane.’

His collaboration with Berlin-based producer, The Intern definitely paid off as the two-and-a-half minute release oozes a hazy experimentation hip-hop and Jazz. Produced by Grit Multimedia, Otis Mensah and Raluca de Soleil,  the accompanied visual sees the Sheffield wordsmith poetically vents on the issue of depression, isolation, materialisation and love loss.

This one’s too good to pass up! Check out the video to ‘Oh Jane

New Music Video: Warning – Danya Black

Ahead of her EP ‘Bird of Prey’, set for release later this year, South London rapper DANYA BLACK unveiled the brand new single entitled ‘Warning’.

Her latest offering possess a 808 heavy, trap-style track with a splash of rock guitars, that in part was influenced by the classic R&B Danya grew up listening to in her hometown.

The sultry emcee has been singing, rapping and performing since the age of 10. Despite having a fashion industry background after studying at the University of the Arts, she has always been a singer/songwriter at heart.

Danya’s EP ‘Bird of Prey’ is reflective of life as she knows it – she describes it as an introduction to herself as an artist and musically a taster of what’s to come.
