Song of the Day: Ting Dun – Ocean Wisdom (ft. Method Man)

After jumping in to the epicentre of the UK rap scene with the release of his independent Top 40 album ‘Wizville’ and the huge lead single ‘Revvin’ featuring Dizzee Rascal, OCEAN WISDOM is back with the visuals for another huge album joint ‘Ting Dun’ featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man.

Sewn into very fabric of Ocean’s music output, from the tracks themselves to everything aesthetic, is pure, unadulterated hip-hop. Whilst he already boasted an impressive online following and had gained millions of views on his videos, ‘Wizville’ has been the driving force behind his recent surge in awareness and popularity. His incredible delivery and lyrical ability, teamed with first class productions and visuals fast-tracked OCEAN WISDOM to the forefront of our minds and playlists, and with the release of ‘Ting Dun’ he looks to set to remain there too.

Coming through with extraordinary execution on a beat interconnected with layers of vocal and hip-hop gold, the two wordsmiths demonstrate their mastery and inimitable styles. OCEAN WISDOM rallies into his double time flow during the course of the track whilst Meth’s mellow tone and wit is delivered with nostalgic precision.

Quickly becoming synonymous with the title of UK’s hip-hop visionary, OCEAN WISDOM takes things to new levels on this latest visual release. Grainy film effects sits over low-riders and Cadillac’s bouncing along on hydraulics against the backdrop of America’s East Coast bringing it home for hip-hop lovers and connecting both sides of the pond perfectly.

The first half of 2018 has become a monumental year for the Brighton native, having smashed a string of dates in the UK and Austria on his ‘Wizville’ tour, he also received 4/5 stars for Wizville from The Guardian. Ocean graced the 1Xtra studios and performed a historic Live Lounge alongside Dizzee Rascal for their track ‘Revvin’, which became highly playlisted by the station, and also went on to light up social networks with an exceptional cover of Busta Rhymes ‘Gimme Some More’.

Ferocious and fierce with a faultless flow, OCEAN WISDOM stays high on the agenda with ‘Ting Dun’ ft Method Man.

Song of the Day: Wavy – Deli Bricks

With the release of ‘Wavy’ on GRM Daily, DELI BRICKS makes it a trio of major drops for his music catalogue in 2018.

Following on from Judgment Day featuring Suspect and 67’s LD, and the recent release of ‘I Just Wanna Know’, DELI BRICKS delivers yet another ‘Wavy’ visual for his summer drop.

Documenting his lavish lifestyle and the riches from life, the rapper takes for a more relaxed approach of late. Spitting over a reflective and calm production ‘Wavey’ feels carefree and casual, which makes for an interesting spin on his latest records that have been more flamboyant and aggressive in terms of delivery and tone.

Having been a mainstay in the UK rap scene for over a decade, Deli has continued in his craft where many with a weaker drive may of easily fallen to the wayside. His undeniable sound and lyricism teamed with his commitment to bring more than good music but a message of greatness, via his collaborations, remains central to his success and epitomises his distinguished and renowned sound.

Adding another impeccable record to his ever-expanding arsenal, DELI BRICKS gets us ‘Wavy’ with his latest single…check it out!

Song of the Day: TMI – IYKZ

Just a week after releasing his take on Ella Mai’s sensational ‘Boo’d Up’, the upcoming, UK talent IYKZ returns with another huge remix, this time putting his stamp on Drake’s number 1 single ‘Nice For What’.

Having recently dropped his own single ‘Paint Me Ugly’ as DJ Target’s #UKUnsigned track, the rising star has been building his position as “one to watch”. He has previously collaborated with Maleek Berry and has over half a million Spotify streams on his previous single ‘They Know (wan mo)’, while most recently he has released commercially successful singles like ‘Clarity’ and ‘No Commercial’ gaining attention of J.U.S.T.I.C.E League and BBC 1Xtra.

Check out the accompanied visuals for the fire track, dropped exclusively via Link Up TV…I’m telling you; you’ll be a fool to pass this one up!

New Track: New Breath – Fliptrix

As one of the leading lights in the thriving UK hip hop scene, last month’s announcement of FLIPTRIX‘s album release for ‘INEXHALE’ caused a riot of excitement. Already teasing us with the video releases for album tracks ‘It’s Like That’ and ‘Bagging Up Music’, the conscious emcee now launches into full album mode as he drops the Chemo-produced single ‘New Breath’, premiered by DJ Target on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

With his trademark mellow tone FLIPTRIX takes us on a luscious melodic journey, delving into a variety of flows as his lyricism explores purpose in life and the social constraints around us on a daily basis.

After revealing the full tracklist for the album this week, which is produced by Chemo, Molotov & Joe Corfield, fans and music critics are itching to hear as much as they can before the album is officially released on 24th August. With UK Hip Hop royalty Skinnyman, Ocean Wisdom, Capo Lee, Coops, Carmody and more all featuring across the 16 tracks, the album provides new talent, varying genre flavours and highly respected pioneers of the UK sound.

‘New Breath’ was released on his own label High Focus Records, which has grown to be the biggest independent Hip-Hop label in the UK over the last 8 years, being home to Rag’n’Bone Man’s early projects and most recently achieving an independent Top 40 with Ocean Wisdom’s Wizville album earlier this year, FLIPTRIX has released a staggering 7 projects since 2007. He is also a member of super group The Four Owls, who dropped 2 of the most classic records in UK Hip Hop history (‘Natures Greatest Mystery’ in 2011 & ‘Natural Order’ in 2015) and have successfully toured the world numerous times and collaborated with the legend DJ Premier on the monumental ‘Think Twice’ single.

Check out the video for banger ‘New Breath’ – and if you’re in the London area on the 26th August, be sure to catch FLIPTRIX headlining his show at Jazz Cafe.

EXCLUSIVE Interview with: Yves and the Talent

NEW LEASE MUSIC caught up with frontman of YVES AND THE TALENT Yves Gravel, whose single ‘Montreal’ was named Song of the Week in January by the blog. If you don’t know this Canadian band, I HIGHLY recommend you check out their discography –  these guys sure know how to put the rock and roll into folk music…

NLM: Hey, thank you for taking part in an interview with NEW LEASE MUSIC.

YG: All the pleasure is mine. We need more blogs like this!

NLM: So what have you been up to on the music circuit?

YG: In recent months, I had the opportunity to play live on the radio which was a great experience. We had a couple shows here in Calgary which were instrumental in establishing our new sound; A departure from all acoustic to electric (with drums).

NLM: Your single’ Montreal’ was named Song of the Week by NEW LEASE MUSIC. What was the public reception of the single?

YG: It’s certainly one of people’s favourite being that it is very high-energy and backed up by an incredible performance from our fiddler Niki Romeril. I have since introduced a French part to the chorus and working with a rapper to mix things up. Stay tune for the next remix!

NLM: What was your inspiration for writing ‘Montreal’?

YG: It is definitely an ode to Montreal; a source of inspiration which I re-discovered 20 years after leaving the city. It’s falling in love all over again with this muse, leaving the listener wondering if certain lines are about the city or lovers. A mystery I intend to keep alive😉

NLM: So how would you describe your sound to potential fans?

YG:There is certainly some folk influences in the sound but not so much in my writing. It has been described as Edgy-Folk but Indie could also be a label. I’d rather say it’s very “Yves”!

NLM: If you had to collaborate with ONE mainstream artist, who would it be?

As a lifelong Leonard Cohen fan it would have to be him on a personal level. But sound wise I would have to say Arcade Fire because of their broad range of styles including an electronic angle.

NLM: If you had three wishes to change the music industry today, what would they be?

YG: Make tickets more affordable to live events, more emphasis on lyrics (rather than catchy hooks) and open music lover’s mind to more “unknown” artists.

NLM: So what are your plans for this year?

YG: We’re currently shopping for a producer to get into the studios in 2019! And in the immediate future, we will be performing live with the whole band on the University of Calgary radio station this fall while promoting our next show. As for myself, more writing.

NLM: How can potential fans make contact with you?

YG: My website is currently under construction (yvesandthetalent.com) so Instagram @YvesAndTheTalent.

NLM: Finally, if music didn’t exist, what profession would you do?

YG: Novelist or Sommelier. Although those are 2 things that are fun to do simultaneously; Drinking good wine while writing!
