EP Review: There’s Beauty In The Black – Dewey Quinton

While most artists shoot out uptempo summer releases that compel most of us to work every muscle in the body, DEWEY QUINTON took a different direction with his latest EP ‘There’s Beauty In The Black’, dropped last month.

Airy tones accompanied with a downtempo bass dominates the five-track set, where Quinton sheds some light on the melancholic fusion, through to his relaxant flow, which is masked with an electronic effect.

This mini package may not provide those hell-raising moments in the clubs, but it is perfect for those chilled out days. With darkened soundscapes that blissfully reverberate throughout the production, the EP definitely displays that there’s beauty in the black. Check it out below:

Song of the Day: Gladiolus – Yvonne Hercules

Singer and self-taught musician YVONNE HERCULES drops her stunning cross-genre single entitled ‘Gladiolus’ into today’s hotspot.

Encompassing of old school blues with a little folk and alternative music, ‘Gladiolus’ explores the movement of Winter into Spring and how this metaphorically corresponds to a journey from a place of death into a place of life or hope. The thought-provoking lyrics are reinforced by Yvonne’s haunting and well-poised vocal.

‘Gladiolus’ is taken from her new EP of the same name and follows her single ‘Roving’, which  received support from Clash magazine, Line of Best Fit, Afropunk, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and others.

This is absolutely breathtaking…have a listen to ‘Gladiolus’

New Track: Better Things – Hudson East

Fresh off his first track of the year ‘Give Me Loving’, released back in March, HUDSON EAST wastes no time and dropped his offering, ‘Better Things’ last Friday.

Sporting sporadically wavy overtones, the smooth R&B number sees the North-West Londoner expressing his intentions of moving into a more positive space in life and finding love.

Before his recent releases, Hudson was featured on Nine’s ‘One Foot Out Album’ and Krept & Konan’s ‘7 nights’  mixtape (both top 10 albums).

New Track: Take A Picture – Sub Blue

SUB BLUE rocks up to today’s spotlight and delivers new single entitled ‘Take A Picture.’

Rocking a seriously chilled R&B vibe, the youngster’s newest material covers the ills of selfie and social media culture as well as narcissism.

“It’s an exploration of the ills of social media, selfie nation and living a superficial lifestyle ”, SUB BLUE says,“It’s as though if there’s no picture or proof online, it didn’t happen. And people will do anything to chase those cyber likes…even if it means representing themselves and their lives in an exaggerated way. I’m in this every day so I wanted to do my own take on it as I feel these are real issues we are dealing with.”

‘Take A Picture’ was produced by acclaimed emerging producers A.V & Sir Dylan during a recent studio run while SUB BLUE was in L.A. The two California-based producers – who between them have worked with the likes of Frank Ocean, Solange, The Weekend and many more – found a true creative vibe with the kid from North-West UK.
