Dominic Lawson Drops R&B Throwback ‘Wrap’

After lending his vocals to the critically acclaimed ‘Hacienda Classical’ album by legendary Hacienda DJs Graeme Parker and Mike Pickering, singing, arranging and composing for brass fusion collective Twisted Tubes, working with the likes of the AMC Gospel Choir, performing on projects such as Colours Classical, Disco Classical, and Garage Classical, and collaborating with producers such as Marshall Jefferson, Midnight City, and House Of Virus, Birmingham born/ Manchester based singer/songwriter, DOMINIC LAWSON unveiled his brand new solo single titled ‘Wrap’.
Co-produced with Andre Hutchinson, who has worked with the likes of Little Mix, Laura Mvula, and Mae Muller, and co-written with Joe Hazlett, ‘Wrap’ is the first of two singles, with which Dominic is kicking off his 2020, while he puts the finishing touches to his debut solo EP, which will be released in the autumn.

Speaking about the inspiration for ‘Wrap’, Dominic Lawson says, “I wrote ‘Wrap’ with my friend JoeHazlett, we had the chord sequence on loop and just talked forever. The song came about as we were talking about the woes of being single in our 20s, the dating scene is tough out here! Musically, I wanted an R&B throwback, having grown up on the likes of Destiny’s Child, Black Street, and Boyz II Men, meanwhile SZA’s ‘CTRL’ was playing in the background, so her flow and melodic choices also influenced us – we caught a vibe and just started running off these lines about falling for somebody”.

Dominic Lawson

With over two million plays under his belt, performances at Glastonbury Festival, Manchester Pride, and the Royal Albert Hall, plus previous support from BBC Radio One, Dominic is a strong and exciting prospect for British music in 2020. His style is firmly rooted in R&B and soul, but with lush pop, rock, jazz and classical music, Dominic comes with an artistic credibility and versatility that set him apart from the current music landscape.

Fifi Rong Reveals Single, ‘Love Is A Lonely Thing’

Inspired by Wong Kar-Wai’s romantic film, ‘Mood For Love’, FIFI RONG’s self-produced single, ‘Love Is A Lonely Thing’ is a three-part production which takes on a different dimension to Valentine’s Day (watch the videos here). Narrated by the Chinese-British singer/songwriter’s delicate and well-poised vocal performance, ‘Love Is A Lonely Thing’ tells a story of an unrequited love story.

With distinctive blends of popular Western music (Avant-garde pop and hazy electronica) and Chinese influences, the first release of the year gives a taste of her upcoming album, slated for release later in the year.

2019 was a great year for Fifi as she became the fifth artist to be signed globally by W Records– a new music initiative from the iconic W Hotels – and recorded singles, ‘Farewell to Cambridge’ and ‘Way Out’, debuted at W Xi’an and W Shanghai (The Bund) as a part of her most successful China tour to date.

This year will see the bilingual songstress working on more interesting and quirky material for her forthcoming album. After working with the likes of Tricky, Phaeleh, Yello and Skepta, Fifi also set her sights on collaborating with more big names as well as planning a tour in the UK and China (dates to be announced on her website.)

Gaining firm support from the likes of The Clash, Fader Magazine, Pigeon and Planes, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music, Fifi’s intricately intimate setting of ‘Love Is A Lonely Thing’ could do no harm but push her further into the limelight…

‘Love Is A Lonely Thing’ is out today on all reputable music platforms. Check out the video for single’s Trilogy below…

Amy Swift Delivers Alt-R&B Dreamy Piece, ‘Planet’

AMY SWIFT‘s new single, ‘Planets’ is one blissful slice of ethereal contemporary R&B. She describes Planets as ‘unravelling’ and ‘dreamy’, and ‘Planets’ does exactly that..It beautifully unravels, creating what feels like a luxurious sonic sound bath. ‘It’s about being lost in someone, feeling a connection that’s beyond just the two of you, it’s all consuming, the feeling that you’re both connected to one another on a soul level’
