TWANDOE is the next best thing with his label Serve Camp Entertainment. Taking  underground hip hop by storm, he uses heavenly laid back, car hopping beats with (at times) electric-effect raps. Electronic-effects raps? Well have a listen to his 16-track mixtape, Lingo Crazy, released this month.

Such electronic raps, are featured in Back  To The Basics, Trust No Nigga Trust No Hoes and Today Is A Good Day. These tracks feature angelic/heavenly melodies and with the full-bodied and rough raps, somehow they all make good listening.

I Neva Fuk Wit Lamez is definitely the one to listen, as this smooth spaced out production features layers upon layers of awkward, slightly-out-of-time raps in the chorus. This track just shows why he’s such a big hit in the underground hip hop scene.

It’s good to have KING DICE O and his long-time collaborator DICE CANNON back here on NEW LEASE MUSIC. These guys were featured with tracks Drive (produced by TW$) and the loved up Something to Tell and the announcement of the long-awaited mixtape The Life Vol.1 back in August.

Now it’s finally here and I have the pleasure of reviewing this mixtape –these guys are not afraid to mix (at times) atmospheric, spaced out hip hop with a little old time soul, acid jazz and reggae– and they definitely not afraid of delivering their innovative raps with straight up, truth-need-to-be-told lyrics.

Tracks The Art of Life, My Soul, Move Forward and My Story feature that spaced out hip hop where these rappers deliver first class spoken word freestyling of obstacles that life presents. The Life Vol. 1 is just like a chocolate sundae – as you dig deeper it gets sweeter. Still featuring the hard-hitting lyrics, track Story of Sam, nicely switches the tone of the mixtape with its easy gliding grooves. The lyrics lighten up in the SLUM VILLAGE-esque Lounge Music and old school funk/spaced with reggae infused Swagg vs. Class.

The Life Vol.1 ends on a high with Struggle of Structure. Sampled from INCOGNITO’s track Deep Waters, these guys raps just oozes into the acid jazz infused production – this one is a must listen

Now I’m not just saying this for the sake of it, but this mixtape definitely deserves the hype, as these guys definitely worked hard to perfect their on-point fusion of hip hop, acid jazz, and soul with a touch of reggae. The fact the they mix hip hop with all these genres is at least a little intriguing  – so quench your curiosity  and head right here to check out the mixtape.

At the age of 22, Cory L. Houston – aka CORYLZ– already has a collection of mixtapes under his belt.

Exposed to different types of music from a very young age, this Tennessee rapper chose hip hop as ‘a main musical style of expression.’ But it wasn’t until he showcased his talent at a local party in 2005  that he was more than serious in becoming a hip-hop artist.

Without further adieu, he churned out eight mixtapes: Starlight (2005) Deep Boyz Anthem (2006); Liven Dead (2007); Era 21 (2008); Real World (2009); Heartless (2012); Cold Hearted (2012) and  more recently Boy Meets World (2013)

Released last month, Boy Meets World feature some serious super raw/rough sex lyrics with smoother-than-chocolate/after hours beats – just have a listen to Melody Rapture and Mash Potatoes.  I have to say that Boy meets World is not all about raw/rough sex lyrics, as  the mixtape also shows a vulnerable side to the rapper. This upriser delivers his spoken word/baby-i’m- so-into-you raps in the angelic, super smooth Look of Love.  Unread Letter shows his hurt  he suffered from his lover over that super smooth drive. His on-pint spoken word raps returns in the heartfelt track  Sheet Rock Soul which gives an insight of this young rapper’s rough upbringing and problems he had encountered in his short life.

CORYLZ hopes that his talent would one day gain interest beyond his hometown. After listening to the mixtape, I think that time is coming real soon for this hot hip hopper. Check out Boy Meets World here.

Review: A Cacophony of Toots, Hoots, Cackles and Wails – Sound Glyphics

Sound Glyphics

Rick Wren (vocals/guitar), Rick Barbosa (drums), Sarah Pottier (keyboard/vocals) and Nathan Payne (bass) – aka experimental rock band SOUND GLYPHICS – are (without a shadow of a doubt) in a league of their own. Formed in 2008 (by the two Ricks) the Canadian boundary pushers clocked up a huge fan base on no time –and this is down to the electrifying layers of high energy rock and perhaps a hint electronica and jazz – and their latest EP A Cacophony of Toots, Hoots, Cackles and Wails displays pretty much all of that.

Released last month, The EP features the chaotic Disaster and the equally-chaotic Don’t Forget the Time, where you’re exposed to a roaring crash of the guitars, drums and keyboard coupled with the pleasantly-wailing vocals. Think of school kids testing out different musical instruments for the time first – but I tell you something it really hits the spot! White Rhino is slightly different; although it still possesses their off-beat and explosive stamp on rock, it’s somewhat a little more melodic and this is where the strong vocals are most welcomed.

If you really love experimental music, you better check these guys out! To find out more about SOUND GLYPHICS, pop over to their website. For now, have a blast at Don’t Forget the Time.
