Song of the Day: Hero – Emil (ft. P Money)

Delivering an introspective insight into the male and female perspective of a relationship, EMIL  smashes into the Summer  with new single ‘Hero’, featuring P Money.

Describing her debut, as ‘being in the real world chasing a fairytale’ EMIL’s effortless vocals glide beside the trap- influenced beat as she tells the story of looking for a ‘Hero’, while P Money’s rapid verse portrays the male acumen of the situation.

Having built a name for herself among her peers and friends in the UK hip-hop scene over recent years, EMIL has been relentlessly grinding and has worked alongside some of the finest UK producers including The Heavytrackerz (credits including Stormzy, Skepta, Katy B) and The Forbes who produced ‘Hero’. After getting her first taste of the music industry back in 2015, alongside Joe Weller on the top 30 single ‘Wanna Do’, she then went on to collaborate with friend and grime star P Money on his ‘Money Over Everyone’ mixtape.

The multi-talented singer songwriter and model from Hackney, has drawn much inspiration from 90’s R&B pioneers like Lauryn Hill and Sade, which is conveyed through her own music and ability to create compelling stories through her lyrics. ‘Hero’ has picked up support from many online platforms including The Wav From, Complex, Yahoo Music, UMA, Urban Boss, Pardon My Blog, Luna Mag, Som Magazine and Underground Industry.

With a stellar performance at The Great Escape festival and a plethora of support already under her belt, EMIL is brewing up a fairytale storm that is due to spread worldwide.

Song of the Day: Free The Slaves – Otis Mensah ( ft. Tonia Victoria)

During his debut show at Glastonbury, BBC Introducing stage last month, OTIS MENSAH dropped his track, ‘Free The Slaves’.

Sporting a sporadically dope elements of sugary-light hip-hop/R&B, the three-minute slammer talks about rebellion, and breaking out of a mundane, oppressed life.

If you haven’t heard of this conscious artist from Sheffield, covering everyday issues are the core subject of his expanding discography, often coupled with a rich soulful hip-hop/boom-bap -esque groove – a sound similar to heavyweights, Mos Def, Common and The Roots.

OTIS MENISH has previously released ‘Creep & Crawl’ which received appreciation from online hip-hop tastemakers…and the crowd at his Glastonbury show.

His upriser is worth a visit; start with ‘Free The Slaves’.

Album Review: Primative Beats and Rhymes

Veteran producer REDDTUNE called upon a mammoth lineup, in a bid to keep golden hip-hop/boombap alive, through his latest album, ‘Primative Beats and Rhymes’.

The 11-track production kicks off on a smooth note, with elements of classical and rich sounds of retro soul met with feather-light boombap. Halfway through the album, the tempo does a full 180. Entering full on into the golden era of the eighties/nineties, the bassline becomes more prominently gusty in the latter tracks, giving them that added spice.

Have a listen to ‘Primative Beats and Rhymes’ at least a few times and you’ll discover some real gems shattered throughout the production…real hip-hop heads will get it straight off. Check it out here.

Must Listens: Last of the Classics, Act A Fool, My Waves, Hustler’s Theme, Primative Beats and Rhymes.
