Song of the Day: Sapling Tree – The Spikes

The woeful yet stunning combination of the piano and orchestral tones introduces ‘Sapling Tree’, the latest single from THE SPIKES, the musical project of multidisciplinary artist Iago Haussman. As the track unfolds, Iago’s deep, emotive vocals rise with intensity, anchoring the song’s emotional depth in a hauntingly beautiful sonic landscape.

Originally conceived as a meditation on the fragmented memories of a lone traveller — glimpses of love, tragedy, birth, and nostalgia — ‘Sapling Tree’ evolved into something far more expansive.

Iago further explains of his latest offering: “At first it was a singular journey through a distant place. Then I thought it should be a journey through life. Many places. Life events. So, the journey becomes diverse and random… but all these random images are brought together by the chorus, which is saying, no matter how crazy everything gets, it’s all part of the tree of life. There is order in the Universe. This tree will keep
on growing. Like the wind will keep blowing. The sun will keep shining. The waves will keep rolling. It’s a metaphor for everything that has certainty and will keep going,”

Following the success of his previous releases — the hypnotic ‘Dancing (In the Palm of My Hand)’, whose music video is approaching 40,000 views, and the chilling, thought-provoking ‘Guns for the Children’, with over 20,000 views — Iago continues to blur the lines between music, poetry, and visual art.

With Sapling Tree, listeners are invited not just to hear, but to feel. Every note, every lyric, carries the weight of heartbreak and resilience. Yet, within the melancholy, there is a whisper of hope — a reminder that when life is thrown into chaos, there is always something or someone to hold onto.

Ross Flora shares ‘Cornerstone’ – a song displaying power of faith, community, and the unwavering love

From an early age, ROSS FLORA showed strong signs of becoming a musical prodigy. His father cultivated his musical journey when he overheard Ross – who was just 12 at the time – performing along a Van Halen CD— he signed Ross up for guitar lessons that very day! Throughout his teenage years, Ross went on to perform at various venues and festivals. At 19, he joined The Kings on tour in Roanoke, Virginia, as a guitarist and vocalist.

The big decision of moving from his hometown Virginia to Nashville to take his music career to another level, had paid off fruitfully For Ross. His gutsy soulful fusion of Country and Folk along with compelling storytelling has earned him a dedicated following. Ross’ debut single ‘Cannonball’, released in 2002, was met with glowing reviews with fans hailing him ‘The Golden Age of Rock ’n’ Roll with a Southern Flare’. He followed up with his first EP, ‘Shoulders of Giants’, in July the same year, which landed him a feature in the Roanoke Times alongside fellow Virginian Morgan Wade as an emerging Nashville talent.

Despite his burgeoning music career, Ross felt he was at a crossroad. His latest single, ‘Cornerstone’ is a touching invitation into Ross’s life, where he felt spiritually stagnant. However with the unflappable love and firm support from the right people, Ross was able to rebuild his life. Woven in a blissful fusion of Americana, Country and Folk, ‘Cornerstone’ sees Ross cleverly utilising metaphors for building one’s life on a firm foundation amidst life’s trials and tribulations and paints a vivid picture of transformation, moving from a place of despair to rediscovering faith and stability.
