Song of the Day: In Love And War – XamVolo

Described as the “the future” by BBC Radio 1 DJ and tastemaker Mistajam,  XAMVOLO drops a vibe-heavy single ‘In Love & War’ –  a cross pollination of soul, electronica and R&B – ahead of his EP.

In the last 12 months, the 24-year-old has risen to the attention of critics and music fans the world over thanks to his impressionist re-imaginings of neo-soul, jazz and pop. He’s played Glastonbury, sold out multiple headline London shows, been compared with everyone from D’Angelo to Anderson Paak and released an acclaimed EP and debut album, ‘All The Sweetness on the Surface’.

‘All The Sweetness on the Surface’ is powerful and emotive collection of song
writing mastery and a testament to XAMVOLO’s cinematic method of creating worlds within his
music, it tells a neo-noir story of a protagonist who finds themselves confronted with a hive
containing a black honey substance that can grant them their every desire.

The album is split into two parts, life before the discovery of the black honey and the grim consequences of life after, in which we’re shown the dark side of getting everything you ever wanted at the click of a finger. The bulk of the album was produced by XAMVOLO himself, but also sees collaborations with heavyweight producers AV and Paul Phamous (Frank Ocean) as well as Bruno Major, Fred Cox and Freddie Joachim.

Song of the Day: London Love – Weslee

Inter-continental singer-producer duo WESLEE have marked their first release of 2019, with latest single ‘London Love’.

Utilising steel drums and deploying a carefree electro-R&B vibe, the playful track sees WESLEE checking off London love interests’ flaws in each area. The chilled out beat of ‘London Love’ shows off Emma’s irresistible vocal range taking centre stage.

The duo’s second EP is set to be released later this year. Acclaimed debut EP 9F, released last June, has generated over 809,000 Spotify streams, while also making it into Jamz Supernova’s ‘Top 5 EPs’ on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Having established themselves as the one of the most refreshing and uniquely dynamic acts in today’s international music scene, WESLEE have amassed over 25 million streams and performed for BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac at her AMP event, where they were joined by Jessie Ware and Sunflower Bean, as well as Annie herself. The pair also performed on the mainstage of Brooklyn’s Northside Festival as well as Baby’s Alright for their live debut in the US.

First emerging with critically-acclaimed debut track ‘Gassed’ the duo garnered a wealth of support from industry heavyweights, with the track receiving the prestigious ‘Hottest Record in the World’ accolade from BBC Radio 1’s Mistajam. It also clocked in at #5 on the BBC Radio 1 Specialist Chart and received support from a wealth of BBC DJs, including Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Clara Amfo and Huw Stephens.

‘London Love’ cements WESLEE’s status as one of the most exciting acts in new music, and with more releases just around the corner, their career is very much still unfolding.

Song of the Day: Stop Me – Franko Fraize (ft. Alex Joseph)

Added straight on to the Spotify ‘Grime Shutdown’ playlist, FRANKO FRAIZE released stunning new single ‘Stop Me’, alongside his highly anticipated ‘Lights & Colour’ EP.

Proving to be quite the musical enigma, FRANKO FRAIZE takes influence from Hip-Hop and Indie, which is expressed through his heartfelt and moving rap delivery. Always distinguishable by his archetypically British accent, his voice is undeniably recognisable. His charismatic charm reached into the soul with bold disposition for his latest records as FRANKO FRAIZE begins the project with his thought evoking track ‘Side By Side’ ft Alex Joseph. Connecting listeners through the engaging message of growth, perspective, empathy and understanding, it was the first gem to be released from his EP and was paired with heartwarmingly nostalgic visuals. A one to watch, this track caught the attention of DJ Mistajam who said: “I’ve been keeping my eye on him for a while but this is possibly his best track to date!”.

‘Stop Me’ is a real strong contender for being the top track on the EP. Bound in energy and no-nonsense determination, the record is an instant mood booster that gives a solid kick up the arse in terms of both sound and lyricism.
