AMAARA Shares Self-Reflective Single, ‘Still’

Following the release of her single, ‘Bright Lights’ last month, Los Angeles-based artist, AMAARA returns with another offering in the shape of single, ‘Still’ – a lush, ethereal pop piece that attempts to distill her experience of love into metaphor.

‘Still’ is one of AMAARA’s favourite songs from her debut LP, ‘Child of Venus’, which documents the journey of rediscovery, transition, and rebirth. The project also encourages the prospective listener to take time out for reflection and introspection.

AMAARA briefly explains the inspirations her debut LP: “I’ve been on a journey of looking into my own childhood conditioning, the notion of unbounded creative genius and where that gets lost in adolescence. It’s a reflective period marked by the question of who I was at the core of myself before I started to be shaped by my environment.”

Thyra Hilden explores love & loneliness with debut album ‘LOVE DRUGS’

Following the release of her EP, ‘Lucid Dreampop’, which claimed the blog’s Album of the Month back in March and also scoops the Album of the Week title twice, visual artist/musician THYRA HILDEN continues to push the boundaries as a new singer/songwriter with album debut, ‘LOVE DRUGS’.

With the help with fellow musicians, Lucas Caddeo (Production, keys, bass, guitar), Martin Drago (Guitar) and Mads Jensen (Drums), the album goes on a journey of ironic twists and happy-sad sweet-pain paradoxes, where Thyra has a minimal and very direct language that captures the most difficult things in life.

Thyra says of the inspiration behind the album: “Love and loneliness are basically chemical processes in the brain and body, and this knowledge creates a slightly absurd twist to joy, longing and devotion”

Danish-born Thyra Hilden have attracted international media attention from Reuters, Euronews, BBC and many more for her mesmerizing dreamy sound which is widely described as existential pop.

Song of the Day: On With The Show – 5omerset

5OMERSET‘s latest single, ‘On With The Show,’ is an acoustic pop song inspired by the Shakespeare quote: “All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players.”

Written with Juno nominated songwriter and producer Dajaun Martineau in L.A., 5omerset perfectly conveys the pressure of everyday life as he trembles:

“Curtails close, shed my clothes, drop the act, let out a cry and clear my throat. Take my time, I’ll be fine the world could be mine but I’m about to lose my mind”

5omerset played all the instruments live Gold Standard Records in Toronto, to create a bitter-sweet sample, with the help from legendary musician and engineer Paul Phelan who played the beautiful pedal steel.

So here’s your chance to listen to ‘On With The Show’ and remember – “when the acting gets harder, shut up get on with the show” (5omerset’s favourite line from the song).
