Song of the Day: Effortless – JSkillz

Today’s song comes from Davenport soothing spitter by the name of JSKILLZ.

Whilst in high school, JSKILLZ pursued his music career in 2005 by starting a rap and R&B group called Midtown Underground. The group became well-known in the local rap scene and were signed to Ensemble Records that same year. They enjoyed some success with single, “This Is Midtown”, before parting ways in 2006. This when JSKILLZ embarked on a solo career.

By 2011, he launched his own independent label, M.T.U. REC. (Must Think Unique Records) and released debut LP, ‘Nothing to Lose’ and music video for the single ‘A Million Ways To Love You’, in which both received recognition in the U.S. and internationally. The hype continued when he received a bronze award by Datpiff  for downloads of EP, ‘Great Minds Think Alike’, a collaborative project with fellow Davenport rapper JC. His latest EP ‘Positive Vibes’ cranked up nearly 1.3 million video views and streams since its release in late 2015.

‘Effortless’ was chosen as today’s dish as from the start, the three-and-a-half minute slammer hooks you right in with this young hip-hopper’s flow grooving into the infectious, lazy-in-the-sunshine R&B beat.

Go ahead and check this bad boy tune out!

New Track: I’ma Hssla – B. Eveready (ft. J.Charles & Mike Body )

Born and bred in Boston, charged up worldsmith B. EVEREADY enlisted fellow musicians, J. Charles and Mike Body for his brand new single, ‘Im’a Hssla’, out last week on Bandcamp.

Reminiscent of that smooth 90s hip-hop/R&B, this emcee unsurprisingly tells the tale that he’s more than ready to grab the spotlight.

Hailing from Nas To Marvin Gaye – and everything in between – as strong influences, his nostalgic trademark has earned him a string of performances with heavyweights, including The Last Poets, Skyzoo, Torae, Emilio Rojas, Talib Kweli and Jin The MC…so you’re dealing with something REAL here; check out ‘Im’a Hssla’.

New Track: Road Closed – Angel

After riding high on previous single ‘Hi Grade’, which has been streamed over 300,000 times, ANGEL continues his unstoppable ascent with the release of track ‘Road Closed’, taken from his EP ‘Her’.

The addictively slick R&B number is expected to continue the success previous releases: ‘Hi Grade’ was described as ‘groovy reggae meets R&B hit’ by The Fader. Harmony Samuels produced ‘Fvxk With You’, which featured Georgia spitter Rich Homie Quan, made a huge splash across both sides of the Atlantic. ‘Her’ EP has been streamed over 2.5 million times globally.

His recent hype stems from 2016 which saw ANGEL collaborating with rising UK rapper Stefflon Don on the sultry throwback sounds of ‘Hop On’ and Haile from WSTRN on the powerful ‘Rude Boy’, which along with the remix – where he joined forces with JME (Boy Better Know), Wretch 32 and Tally – collectively amassed over 2 million combined streams and garnered support from Radio 1Xtra and Rinse FM.

Signed in the US by Motown records VP, Ezekiel Lewis (also responsible for forming the group The Clutch who have gone on to write and produce hits for Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Neyo and more), alongside Island Records, ANGEL continues to reinforce his position as one of the UK’s hottest R&B talents. With Kehlani, Mila J, Pop and Oak (known for their work with the likes of Chris Brown, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj), Grammy award-winning producer Swiss Beatz, Neff U and Prince Charlez (who recently collaborated with Rihanna on ‘Anti’) on the list as just some of the credible names, ANGEL has recently worked with and more new music and live shows coming, there is no doubt that Angel’s debut album is going to rock both sides of the shores, making 2017 and beyond his for the taking…have a listen to this incredible talent-on-the-rise.

Upcoming Release: Maybe I’m Wrong – Nors (ft. Tolu Salako)

To mark the launch of their record label, Nors Music, international music collective NORS are all set to release their single, ‘Maybe I’m Wrong’.

Featuring the sensual vocals of Nigerian musician, Tolu Salako, the forthcoming offering features an equally sensual fusion of R&B, pop and reggae (think of a chilled out version to Zouk) with strong presence of the tribal-esque bass and the flirtatious accordion.

Led by Argentinian multi-instrumentalist Alfredo Norese, the growing success NORS is built on the talent from the UK, USA, Africa and India who’ve cracked up attention and support from various independent radio stations and blogs. To ignite their new-found awareness, the team will digitally release one single each month via their brand new label…so keep an eye out for their future projects!
