New Track: Hi Grade – Angel

Hot on the heels of a hugely successful 2016, which saw him bring his mesmerizing vocals and must-see stage performance to sold-out headline shows at London’s Bush Hall over two nights and a date at Birmingham Academy 3 plus gigs at Wireless and V Festivals and the release of his ‘HER’ EP, which has been streamed over 2 million times globally, the dynamic UK R&B singer-songwriter ANGEL is back with his brand new track ‘Hi Grade’, the first release from his forthcoming project (out this spring on Island Records).

Written and produced by the newcomer and a nod to his own musical upbringing, having a father who played around the world with legendary reggae artists such as Bob Marley, Misty in Roots, Dennis Brown and his own band Zabandis, ‘Hi Grade’ mixes reggae and R&B vibes with Angel’s stellar vocals to create a stunning, fresh sound that fans old and new will find impossible to get out of their heads or off their stereos.

The track follows the massively popular ‘HER’ EP which featured the Harmony Samuels produced ‘Fvxk With You’ that saw west London meeting America’s ‘dirty south’, delivered courtesy of an explosive 16 bars from Atlanta, Georgia’s Rich Homie Quan and made a huge splash across both sides of the Atlantic. The forthcoming project will see Angel building on the waves he created last year, whilst continuing to showcase his incredible songwriting ability and flair for hypnotic hooks and earworm melodies.

So here’s your chance to get some insight into the upcoming project; listen to ‘Hi-Grade.’

New Music Video: Fvxk With You – Angel (ft. Rich Homie Quan)

Hot on the heels of a huge summer which saw him bring his mesmerising vocals and must-see stage performances to both Wireless and V Festivals, UK R&B singer-songwriter ANGEL has shown no signs of slowing down with the release of his new EP HER earlier this month – which has already been streamed almost 400,000 times in less than two weeks – and now the brand new visual for his track Fvxk With You featuring US rap artist Rich Homie Quan.

Sampling 90s girl-group Jade’s iconic New Jill Swing jam Don’t Walk Away, ANGEL continues  with his unique mix of addictive 90s samples mixed with his distinctive, soulful vocals on the Harmony Samuels produced Fvxk With You. With west London meeting America’s ‘dirty south’, delivered courtesy of an explosive 16 bars from Rich Homie Quan, the Atlanta, Georgia hip-hop artist currently taking the music industry by storm, Fvxk With You has already started to make a huge splash across both sides of the Atlantic and is set to be taken to the new heights with the new visual, filmed in the rapper’s ATL neighbourhood.

HER EP is a collection of six slick and sultry R&B jams produced by Angel and showcasing his incredible songwriting ability and flair for hypnotic hooks and earworm melodies. Seeing him continue to build on the waves he created with his previous releases this year, the EP features two further new tracks, the soon-to-be new favourites Thelma and Louise and the Bobby Brown sampling Me & You. HER also includes Hop On featuring rising UK rapper Stefflon Don and the powerful Rude Boy featuring Haile from WSTRN, which along with the remix – which saw him join forces with JME (Boy Better Know), Wretch 32 and Tally – collectively amassed over 2 million combined streams and garnered support from Radio 1Xtra and Rinse FM.

Signed in the US by Motown records VP, Ezekiel Lewis (also responsible for forming the group The Clutch who have gone on to write and produce hits for Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Neyo and more), alongside Island Records, ANGEL continues to reinforce his position as one of the UK’s hottest R&B talents. With Pop and Oak (known for their work with the likes of Chris Brown, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj), Grammy award-winning producer Swiss Beatz, Neff U and Prince Charlez (who recently collaborated with Rihanna on Anti on the list as just some of the credible names Angel has recently worked with, there is no doubt that his debut album is going to rock both sides of the shores, making 2017 and beyond his for the taking.

HER EP Is out now on Island Records.

New Track: Beluga Bitches Bollinger – Mr Bigz

Mr Bigz

Recently, MR BIGZ was here, featuring on Johnson Orchid’s track I Wanna Love (named song of the week by NEW LEASE MUSIC). The UK most charismatic hip-hopper isn’t kicking back anytime soon; instead he cranks up the charm to the max and drops latest single Beluga Bitches Bollinger, taken from his mixtape, My Funked Up Soul 2.

The single gives a first glimpse of the ten-track project and offers nothing less than two minutes of silky smooth rap with the hot property on the top of his game alongside trusted producer Turkish Dcypha (Island Records)

Adding a unique twist to some of his favourite classic soul records, the 2014 mixtape My Funked Up Soul was so well-received that he was inspired to create the S.U.M.M.E.R. EP shortly after. Tracks such as The Ride featuring Giggs, Finer Taste with Wretch 32 and Soul Food featuring Max Marshall – all playlisted on BBC Radio 1Xtra – helped the EP to the iTunes hip-hop top ten.

My Funked Up Soul 2 was released on Good Friday….ease myself into the mixtape and check out Beluga Bitches Bollinger

Upcoming Release: Proton – Solsine (ft. Brownie & Santego)

Featuring the haunting vocals of Brownie and rapid fire delivery of rapper Santego, SLOSINE are on the verge of releasing their forthcoming effort Proton. Out on 7th September, the four-and-a-half minute production displays glacial soundscapes setting the backdrop for a noxious mix of garage basslines.

Formed in late 2014, the London-based duo dropped their first single Deeper  in March 2015. The second single Time quickly followed in May, gaining support from DJs Mike Delinquent (Kiss), Charlie Tee, TS7 (Kiss Fresh) and DJ Woody (Capital Extra) as well as being featured on numerous blogs including, Chicago EDM and Insomniac.

Likened to the British electronic producers, Chase & Status, they have performed with NME, Kiss FM, reached No1 on The Hype Machine and remixed for artists including Florence And The Machine under different aliases.

To add to their short but impressive CV, the up and coming producers developed a close-knit group of featured artists and have collectively released with Island Records, Defected and Stealth as well as penning songs for Rudimental’s recent album and supported Laura Mvula and Ella Eyre.

In the last year they have performed at top London venues including Proud, 93 Feet East, The Stillery, Kensington Roof Gardens and South London’s answer to carnival, Brixton Splash.

After supporting acts such as The Smiths, Scroobious Pip and Russell Lissack (Bloc Party) and with a return visit to Ibiza Rocks this summer, 2015 is shaping up to be an exciting year for these beatmasters.

Review : Half Moon Run – Dark Eyes

Half Moon Run Dark Eyes

1. Full Moon
2. Call Me In The Afternoon
3. No More Losing The War
4. She Wants To Want
5. Need It
6. Give Up
7. Judgement
8. Unofferable
9. Drug You
10. Nerve
11. Fire Escape
12. 21 Gun Salute

Devon Portielje (vocals/drums/guitars), Conner Molander (vocals, guitar, keys), Dylan Phillips (vocals, drums, keys) and Isaac Symonds (vocals, drums, keys, guitar) -aka HALF MOON RUN- are on the verge of releasing their album, Dark Eyes (through Glassnote / Communion / Island Records).

The twelve-track production was first released in Canada March last year, but as been remastered and remixed for global release. Already available in France (through Polydor Records) and in United States (through Glasstone Records), Dark Eyes will be available to the UK and the rest of Europe today.

The four-piece folk-rock act came together in the most unlikely situation – they met in Montreal on a Craigslist list ad. However after listening to their album several times, they sound like a band that has a special bond from high school.

Darks Eyes offers an infusion of 60s inspired soft folk, rock and which is topped off angelic harmonies – they really put me in the mind of COLDPLAY and perhaps DR HOOK? When I listen to Dark Eyes, I was greeted with such infusion in Full Circle, Call Me In The Afternoon and No More Losing The War. Halfway through the production, I was met with roaring guitars and melodic bass line in She Wants to Know and for the first time, I really appreciate Portielje’s vocals, which turned from ultra mellow to gusty. The gutsy vocals brought the whole production together. My absolute favourites are Give up, Judgement and Nerve (this song reminds me of Dr Hook) where there is a little funk added that folk and rock.

I have to say that Dark Eyes took me by surprise as (I have to admit) I’m not a massive fan of folk music. However after listening to this album, I’ll more open-minded about folk music and I’d be more than happy to listen to this album over and over again, as it perfect for those warm summer nights.
