Song of the Day: Way Off Wave – Blinker The Star

Following the release of album, ‘Careful With Your Magic’, released last fall, BLINKER THE STAR presents his latest single, ‘Way Off Wave’ on the blog’s today top spot.

Speaking of his trance – like release Blinker says: “The song touches on the things we do and think to ourselves after a period of great change: our impulse to seek out new external realities, while internally returning to stuck patterns and thoughts which inhibit growth and acceptance. It is almost a dreamlike state we find ourselves in trying to move forward while mentally sloshing about in the past, looking for new answers that will never appear. It was recorded completely alone in the middle of a corn field in the dead of winter.”

After a short string of shows last fall, the Canadian rocker  began working on new music at Skylark Park Studio outside of Pembroke, Ontario. The solitude proved delicious as a new album, ‘Juvenile Universe’ will be ready by early summer, marking the fastest turnaround between albums for the largely one person studio act. Song of the Day: Hercules – Breazy Daze

Andri Jónsson, otherwise known as BREAZY DAZE,  presents his blends of Contemporary R&B, Hip-Hop, Indie and Jazz, through latest single, ‘Hercules’, which sees the Icelandic singer-songwriter yearning for a deep love and connection with that someone – whilst, at the same time, deliberately trying to escape those emotions.

Andri first picked up the guitar in 2011 and shortly after, he started his first band called The Northern Lights, which gained moderate success. Now based in Berlin, Andri has pursued his solo music career and ‘Hercules’ is his first in a series of new material to come this year.

Song of the Day: Same Again – Char

Following her critically acclaimed debut single ‘Control’, which was met with rave reviews from the likes of BBC Introducing, Lefuturewave, DiscoverNU, and Mercato Metropolitano Radio, Berkshire singer and songwriter CHAR‘s first offering of 2020 ‘Same Again’ is a mesmerising offering with warm R&B and lush pop sensibilities, led by CHAR’s smooth vocal and effortlessly soulful delivery, underpinned by a slow-building jazz-soul fusion minimalist musical backdrop, which allows CHAR to steal the show from start to finish.

The latest release sees CHAR looking introspectively at the cyclic repetitive behavior. She explains: “We often find ourselves trapped in, not considering the effects of doing the same thing again and again, and expecting a different result – whether it’s going back to that one person time and time again, or repeating the same night out over and over again. The track is a bit of hard nudge for me, but there’s also a self-soothing aspect to the track, where I’m saying ‘let’s not beat ourselves up too much’, because life is already tricky enough to navigate through as it is”.

Song of the Day: This Whole Nothing – Color Theory

Featuring lyrical ambiguities with electronic embellishments and gently rolling synths, Brian Hazard – aka – synthwave act COLOR THEORY’s ‘This Whole Nothing’, creates a world of nostalgically transfigured memories which allow the listener to place their own emotions into the music.

“This Whole Nothing” is one of those songs that people will read into as they will. The lyrics are just vague enough to be universal. My inspiration was the spacious emptiness one experiences when the voice of the mind quiets and the world can be seen as it truly is.” – Color Theory

Generating nearly three million plays across streaming platforms, Color Theory has received significant support on YouTube, having been picked up by renowned channels such as NewRetroWave, The ’80s Guy, LuigiDonatello and SoulSearchAndDestroy.  Winning the grand prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, having three songs featured in the Just Dance video game series and two in the Rock Band video game series, plus several song placements on MTV’s The Real World, are just some of Color Theory’s notable achievements.
