Mixtape Review: Trapped In The 90s – Redd Tunes Production

The man behind this mammoth mixtape, REDD TUNES goes way back to the 90’s, with a stellar lineup beside him through latest mixtape, ‘Trapped In The 90’s.

The 12-track project  follows the success of his last year’s mixtape ‘Primative Beats And Rhymes’ which also features various artists. The London producer is hoping to carry on the hype with ‘Trapped In The 90’s’ which bears a strong influence of ambient boom bap of the aforementioned era. Each featured artists take their turn to cruise along the laid-back composition with their slick wordsmithery. The man himself also step to the mike on a few occasions, offering up his baritone flow to the constrasing feathery arrangements.

‘Trapped In The 90s’ does exactly what it says on the tin, which is to unapologetically brings back boom bap of the golden era – and to keep it alive. There’s some real bangers in this collection; check it out here.

EP Review: #DontSleepOnJAS – J.A.S

Jayd Soliar – better known as J.A.S – has bounced back with the first release of the year, which shapes up be a six-track set entitled ‘#DontSleepOnJAS’ – out today on all major digital platforms, including iTunes and Spotify.

Following the epic release of ‘The Massacre’ – which premiered on NEW LEASE MUSIC last September – I wondered if this latest package would be, at least, on par with the collaborative effort.

Featuring a melting pot of talents, ‘#DontSleepOnJAS’ introduces a boisterous bass which runs throughout the collection, bouncing off echoic soundscapes. Each featured vocals add a layer to the contrasting arrangements, creating a rich three-dimensional (almost holographic) feel.

So just to answer the question: is the EP, at least, on par with the single ‘The Massacre?’. Gonna say that the singles on ‘#DontSleepOnJAS’ have way surpass the track and it goes without saying that you won’t fall asleep on this South African producer’s latest body of work. Check it out below:

New Music Video: Woah – Kritz93 (ft.E. Mak)

KRITZ93, E.Mak and Sunny Kale – the producer behind Stormzy’s hit ‘100 Bags’ – cooked up a straight-talking banger entitled ‘Woah’. Taking a unapologetically raw street approach, this brand new hot collab is already tearing up the underground grime scene.

Gaining initial exposure from DJ Target, who cherry picked the record as his ‘Targo Embargo’ in early January, KRITZ93 took to the BBC Radio 1Xtra airwaves to introduce himself and his record to the nation and it has since been hot on the selection lists across Kiss Fresh, Radar Radio, Westside FM.

A newcomer to the game, KRITZ93 spent the entirety of 2017 recording and releasing music, freestyles and videos online, building a respectable stock of well-received and supported music. He was also found collaborating and featuring on a selection of tracks, which included ‘G’s Dem’ for DJ P Montana’s Rah Boy – Vol 1 mixtape. Teaming up with E. Mak on the record, who’s profile has recently soared from his release ‘Yo!’, the pair chopped it up over a hybrid of melodic genres and vowed to jump back in to the studio together quickly, resulting in the creation of ‘Woah’…check out the video.
