Song of the Day: Vices – Alfie Neale

Originally from Dorset, now based in Brighton, singer-songwriter ALFIE NEALE has been steadily building his fanbase with songs full of emotion and blunt honesty, where he pours his soul into every lyrics he writes.

His latest ‘Vices’ is a true testament of the above, as it reflects the compilation of his experience of moving to a new city (Brighton) and living with five of his best friends for two years. The song describes the importance of the little things in life, and how much support friends must show each other through the hard times. Although the bottom line of the song is serious there are less serious aspects to the song such as simple case of not having enough money to get a taxi home from a night out in Brighton.

The track is part of Alfie’s forthcoming five-track EP Titled ‘If My World Falls Apart’, set for release in March. To support the EP Release, Alfie will be playing a London headline show on April 30th at Colours Hoxton and a short run of city festivals including Live at Leeds, Hit The North and Liverpool Sound City.

Song of the Day: They Look Just Like They Know – Michael Baker

MICHAEL BAKER‘s first release of the year, ‘They Look Just Like They Know’, is a stirring acoustic piece of delicately plucked strings, rich reverb and cinematic movements, all of which steers the listener’s attention to Baker’s tender vocals and penchant for storytelling.

As with previous single, ‘Baby Books’, the Brighton songwriter once again turns to the subject of mental health, signified by the line “the mind can be a deadly place,” which Baker sheds further light on in the quote below:

“I wrote ‘They Look Just Like They Know’ when I had moved to Brighton after spending a couple of years of living in my Van and moving around. This song is a melancholic ponder on both the comfort and discomfort of memories, and how sometimes, in the darker times, your own home can feel strange and unfamiliar. It’s the difference between feeling at home in your mind, and feeling trapped in it.”

‘They Look Just Like They Know’ also follows previous single ‘Past The Evening’, which was premiered by Clash Magazine, who described it as “a tender return, showcasing the songwriter’s deftness of touch, and his gilded use of colour.”

Previous support for Michael Baker has come from BBC 6 Music , Youtube and Spotify Tastemaker Alex Rainbird with ‘One God Damn’, The Independent with single ‘The Steady & The Stuck’, and was selected for BBC Introducing London’s Artist of the Week . Michael also supported Sarah Jarosz at Union Chapel, performed at the inaugural Black Deer Festival and completed a UK and European tour back in November 2019.

Charlie Trees Drops Blazing Video For Track, ‘Trees’

CHARLIE TREES comes through with the video for latest infectious single ‘Trees’. First of several singles leading up to the release of his project Garden, ‘Trees’ sees Charlie immerse himself with a catchy, more dynamic sound that serves as the premise for Charlie’s introduction to the wider masses.

The track produced by long-time collaborators Yrk Rd, has a spacey and dreamy under-layer, with hard-hitting, aggressive drums and a compelling horn section all in one. This combination of differing elements gives Charlie a very distinctive sound, one that is laid-back yet allows Charlie to showcase his multisyllabic style all at 140bpm.

The accompanied visuals, directed by No1, fittingly filmed in the 1011 CT district of Amsterdam. The almost four-minute production demonstrates Amsterdam’s lesser celebrated aspect of nature and vast greenery tied together with its more widely renowned recreational activities that bring people together, as reflected in the cameos featured throughout the visual.

On the new single, Charlie says “Trees is an introduction to who I am. It represents me sonically, spiritually and geographically. I was in college and uni with both members of Yrk Rd and we smoked up everyday so it only seemed right to have them on the production. They both know me so well, I could tell they designed it for me and they got it spot on.”

‘Trees’ is set to reinforce Charlie Trees as not only a talented emcee amongst his peers, but also as an artist that’s here for longevity.

One that can appeal to the mainstream, without risking his credibility in the process…check him out below…
