EP Review: Time I Got Goin’ – House Above The Sun

Five-piece act, HOUSE ABOVE THE SUN‘s latest EP, ‘Time I Got Goin,’ carries on their neat theme of upbeat, feather light indie folk/rock/Americana from their 2017 EP, ‘Five Hours North’ (featured through intro single ‘Trains’ and ‘Time I Got Goin) but with a hint of bluesy country soul.

‘Small Town’ and ‘Footsteps’ are probably the best pieces that showcase their new-found sound, where an indie rock/folk combo serves as the perfect backdrop for the twang of that county soul.

In addition to their take on alternative folk/rock music, a retro/grunge-esque fusion presents itself through ‘The Bitter Life of Little Tony Starfish’ which gives the production a hazy and slight sparky feel.

It’s a real delight to see these South Londoners back on track with a range of genres – that I never expected – to their already established sound.

Song of the Day: Island – Quietype

Toronto-based trio QUIETYPE‘s latest single, ‘Island’ chronicles the feeling of isolation just before the end of a relationship, despite best efforts of keeping it alive. Through the message in the song, Quietype hopes to reach to those who had the same experience.

The guys confessed that ‘Island’ is their proudest work from their brand new self-titled debut EP as the piece is one of the first songs they wrote as a group.

Speaking of the release, Quietype says: “This one was a really interesting song to tackle when it came to recording. There were so many layers, so many unique sounds and tones we wanted to incorporate. For us, it was mainly about finding the balance of incorporating all the sounds we had in our heads while still keeping the song subtle and clear.”

Track Premiere: Only – Dorian Thorson

NEW LEASE MUSIC is EXTREMELY pleased to be the first to present DORIAN THORSON‘s brand new single titled ‘Only’.

Boasting a laid-back, trap/afterhours vibe, ‘Only’ is about experiencing that first love and how it can fade away without having any real closure.

Speaking of his new release, Dorian says: “I wrote this song as a goodbye to mine as I’m pretty sure I’ll never see them again. I didn’t really get the closure I would have liked so ‘Only’ is my closure. Don’t get it twisted, I’ve moved on years ago but this song tells a key part of my life story and needed to be released to the world. That’s just how i want all my proceeding work to be –  Journalistic, personal yet relatable material.”

‘Only’ was supposed to be included in his debut album ‘The Come Up’ (check out the album and review here.) Dorian explains: “I felt like ‘Only’ didn’t fit among the others as it has a whole different instrumental for it.”

Out today on all major download and streaming sites, ‘Only’ marks the beginning of Dorison’s shift from his ‘hip-hop/Rnb’ combo to something more sensual and soulful. So keep your eye on this serious contender as he releases more material throughout the year.

Why not start with ‘Only’ below…and remember, you heard it first on NEW LEASE MUSIC!

Song of the Day: Nightfall – DJ Ten

If stars had their own soundtrack, DJ TEN‘s track ‘Nightfall’ would be it. Leading with organic percussion meeting retrowave synths, the track boasts elements of R&B which quickly appear with the smooth female vocals.

Speaking of the track, DJ Ten shares, “Nightfall was inspired by many things for me. The key thing being to make a song with retrosynth inspiration, but to also give it a modern vaportrap twist and execution. I love to blend different sounds together that no one expects.”

DJ Ten – the man behind the tastemaker Youtube Channel, New Retro Wave, which has nearly one million subscribers – received over four million views across streaming platforms while a track from his ‘Retrological 2.0’ album was featured in the movie ‘The Demolisher’. DJ Ten has previously collaborated with synthwave producer, Trevor Something on two highly successful singles, ‘The Inner Voice’ and ‘Viral Lust’.

‘Nightfall’ is part of the Brooklyn-based retrowave producer’s self-produced EP ‘We Dream Aloud’ via TenStars. Check out the single below:
