NEW LEASE MUSIC staple 1000DAYSWASTED just keeps rolling them out, releasing his most gritty and gutsy drum ‘n’ Bass work to date, I live Among You. Guaranteed to spice up those cold winter days, the banger comes from the EP of the name same, available now on Juno.
Go on, you know you want to – hit that play button and have a cracking weekend!
After the success of her self-released enigmatic EP Children of Silk and the worldwide screening of her debut short film The Formula, SEVDALIZA had an incredible year of touring the world independently without having to release her debut album. Now the songstress/producer is back with her latest piece of music, Time.
The avant-garde number has been crafted over the past year and a half, and was composed in five different countries by SEVDALIZA.
Her melancholic, visceral voice floats over beds of mechanical instrumentation, creating dynamics of chaos and order. Hailing from the Netherlands, SEVDALIZA’s songs have a philosophical questioning character and her air of independent power is strongly present throughout her career.
Diverse comparisons have been drawn yet it remains a difficulty to specify her in a particular genre. Rhythmic tensions build slowly into chaotic climaxes. Every retribution of her lyrics become more intense and personal, yet she isn’t able to break from that obscure statue of a woman.
So get ready to hear innovation at its best; it’s time to check out Time.
Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan) collaborator, LEO NAPIER releases debut single that’ll stick in your head for days.
The London-based singer emerged from the New York electronic music scene after contributing several songs to projects by pioneering DJ/producers Griz and Gramatik. His pop/soulful vocals and poignant lyrics were strong enough to capture the attention of Wu-Tang Clan’s, Raekwon, who appears alongside Napier on Gramatik’s most successful single to date, Native Son. Now he’s ready to step into the spotlight with the release of his debut single Dime released last Friday.
Dime is about the pursuit of the perfect woman. A concept that led to a collaboration with anonymous London-based artist, Pandemonia, a 7 ft tall latex-clad human who is the personification of celebrity and idealised femininity. This constructed figure is an archetype of pop myth and reality, the notion that lies behind ‘Dime’s’ killer music video directed by Dan Blake.
Influenced by the likes of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Bruno Mars, it is clear that the hallmark of Napier’s sound is the ability to stitch traditional R&B/Soul with modern production punctuated by his mischievous raspy voice and cheeky lyrics.
Producer DIZZY RAMBUNCTIOUS dropped another hot hip-hop instrumental coming in the form of a five-minute smoothie, Carnival. Not to be missed; check it out!
It’s been a little over a year since MELANIE CREW appeared on NEW LEASE MUSIC with her debut EP Until The End, which received airplay on BBC Radio 6 and BBC Kent. Now she’s back with her second EP, Further Away, released beginning of this month.
The London-based singer/songwriter reunites with her old faithful acoustic guitar, creating that rich, folky sensation and adds some soulful and sultry spice to her usual sweet and (respectfully) girl-like vocal range.
With therapeutic and occasionally soft uptempo soundscapes, Further Away EP is the perfect bet to start the week on a soothing note – after a rowdy weekend.
Must Listens: Ghost, A Hundred Words, All That I Want.
