Song of the Day: Bite Me! – Amity

Once in a while, you get a musician that instantly COMMANDS your full attention and 18 year old AMITY is that musician. The South-London artist turned to music as a coping mechanism during lockdown – and the very thing that saved him from the bloom of the pandemic made him an overnight sensation.

Making his debut at age of 15, Amity immediately caught the attention from the likes of The Guardian and the BBC. Accolades came in quick succession as the ASBO Magazine-tipped artist was named the Royal Albert Hall’s official Future Maker Artist in 2023 and became winner of an RBE Musical Excellence Award. A resident artist at Soho’s iconic Spice of Life, Amity had sold out shows across the UK in 2024, gracing stages at The Great Escape, Brighton Pride’s Fabuloso in the Park and, of course, The Royal Albert Hall.

The whirlwind acclaim didn’t happen by chance – Amity is a breath of fresh air in today’s materialistic music industry. He uses music to pose thought-provoking questions, shedding light on difficult subjects, including mental health, abuse and suicide. Being queer, autistic, and trans, Amity could be described as a singing advocate as he also speaks up for those communities.

Now Amity is preparing to launch his debut EP, set for release later in the year. He gives a taste of his highly-anticipated project with title track, ‘Bite Me!’, which challenges societal conventions. The stunning piano led ballad, which could be easily mistaken for one of Adele’s hit ballads, sees Amity giving the proverbial two fingers at dogmatic thinking from religious hypocrisy to the rise of demagogues and the aftermath of abuse. Personally ‘Bit Me!’ really struck a chord when Amity bellows out: ‘your hands around my neck feels like home’. This powerful statement cuts to the raw truth of the things we yearn for can be damaging. In revealing his truth in such statements, Amity hopes to heal and empower others through music – just how music empowered him during lockdown.

‘Bite Me!’ is out available across various music platforms. Why not have a listen….

Song of the Day: Commuter’s Commitment/Mundane Mondays – Love, Builder Of Worlds

In response to a collective groan that could be heard amongst commuters as they return to a place of grind after a carefree weekend, multidisciplinary artist LOVE, BUILDER OF WORLDS has shared a soothing remedy, forming the single ‘Commuter’s Commitment/Mundane Mondays’, available now across various music platforms.

‘Commuter’s Commitment/Mundane Mondays’ offers itself as a reprieve from the cacophony of chaos that is the commute, and serves the listener as a friendly accompaniment of comfort on those seemingly endless mundane Mondays and the days that follow.

The lo-fi jazz instrumental is inspired by the infamous London commute the anti-binary artist grew up deeply entrenched in; acutely aware of its adornments of delays, overcrowded platforms, stuffy and sometimes sweltering heat, and of course its ear piercing symphony of screeches.

Now residing in Ireland’s vibrant capital Dublin, Love, Builder Of Worlds also prides the composition as an anti-capitalist song for the worker. Briefly interrupted by a voice, the single pull us out of the wistful daze and remind us that the shareholders of the corporations we toil for matter much more than our desperate need for work/life balance.

‘Commuter’s Commitment/Mundane Mondays’ follows Love Builder Of World’s debut single, punk rock anthem ‘Scared For The Climate’, which sits at the opposite end of the musical spectrum. While ‘Scared For The Climate’ was filled with angst and furore, ‘Commuter’s Commitment/Mundane Mondays’ conveys the weight of its sentiments wordlessly, and the listener is invited to find a soft landing against the frenzied familiar.

An avid campaigner for the voiceless Love, Builder of Worlds, is part of Olólúfè Collective, which offers a safe space for marginalised people to create, collaborate and practice collectivism. With this platform, he is able to express himself freely and unapologetically, through music – whether its punk rock, neo-funk, disco, blues, afrobeats, alté, indie-electro pop and garage music.

With two contrasting singles – a raucous anthem and a tranquil instrumental – under his musical belt, Love, Builder Of Worlds displays a natural aptitude to utilise multiple music styles to demonstrate the breadth of self-expression and concerns of the world’s biggest issues.

‘Commuter’s Commitment/Mundane Mondays’ was released on 25th November 2024 on various music platforms.

Song of the Day: Retro-39 – Tilly Birds

Bangkok’s alt-pop sensations TILLY BIRDS have dropped their latest single, ‘Retro-39’, a shimmering synth-pop gem that dives deep into the bittersweet feeling of missing someone you can’t get out of your head. Known for their genre-blurring approach, the trio of Billy, Third, and Milo have once again crafted a track that fuses indie, funk, and 80s-inspired pop into a sound that feels both fresh and nostalgic.

Formed over a decade ago, Tilly Birds have always embraced their broad musical influences, from The Beatles to Queen, merging them into a modern approach that resonates with listeners worldwide. With millions of fans in their home country of Thailand and beyond, the band has become synonymous with crafting catchy, energetic tracks that leave a lasting impact.

Their album It’s Gonna Be OK (2021) earned them the Best Asian Artist award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards 2021, and it was also recognized by NME Magazine as one of the 25 Best Asian Albums of 2021. In Thailand, their success is unparalleled—they swept five major awards at the TOTY Music Awards 2021 (T-POP of The Year), including: Best Music of the Year (Male Group), Best Artist of the Year (Group), Best Producer of the Year, Best Song of the Year and Best Album of the Year.

In their latest offering ‘Retro-39’, Tilly Birds take listeners on an emotional journey of longing and nostalgia. The song paints a vivid picture of trying to escape the memory of someone you wish you didn’t miss—disconnecting from the world, turning off your phone, and retreating to music as a form of solace. With its irresistible hooks and sleek 80s-inspired production, the track blends funky synths and infectious chorus lines, making it a perfect addition to their already captivating discography.

Musically, ‘Retro-39’ showcases Tilly Birds’ knack for marrying infectious pop hooks with textured, layered production. The track opens with an immediate pull—sharp synth lines weaving through punchy beats, while Billy’s guitar riffs add a grungy edge beneath the polished surface. As the chorus hits, Third’s emotive vocals soar, delivering a melody so infectious it’s impossible not to get caught up in the moment.
Tilly Birds’ ability to inject emotion into danceable pop is what makes ‘Retro-39’ stand out. For fans of The 1975, HYBS, and Dayglow, the song is built on contradictions—retro vibes mixed with contemporary energy, upbeat grooves paired with lyrics of longing—but it works beautifully, creating a sound that’s both familiar and new.

In a music world saturated with fleeting pop trends, ‘Retro-39’ is a reminder of why Tilly Birds continue to thrive: they create songs that connect on a deeper level, pairing irresistible sounds with stories that resonate. As you hit repeat on ‘Retro-39’, it’s clear Tilly Birds are a movement, shaping the future of alternative pop one unforgettable track at a time.
