Song of the Day: Favours – DLK

Talented Londoner Duramaney “D L K” Kamara announces the release of his self-produced, debut EP and the first record leads with promise as to his future in the music scene.

Featuring co-production from Thrilla, a notable and rising producer from the UK who co-produced ‘Favours’ alongside Meshach and D L K, the EP also features KESHAV credited as co-producer on ‘Stay Low’ and a featured guest performance from a longtime friend and talented aspiring rapper from North London, Sweeney featured on ‘Big Facts’.

With one foot in the film world and the other in the music world, D L K has long been around the two scenes, chopping them up alongside the greatest stars in the UK. Having appeared as an actor in British recording artist Stormzy’s short film ‘Gang Signs & Pray (The Film)’ during 2017, his acting career continued to advance favourably, starring in ‘What Happened to Evie’ 2018, a short film by Carol Younghusband. His debut feature film appearance came in 2018 as he starred in feature film ‘Yardie’, the directorial debut by Idris Elba based on the bestseller novel ‘Yardie’ by Victor Headley. Amongst other notable developments in the same year was his contribution as Sound Designer for the ‘Royal Court’ theatre play ‘Instructions For Correct Assembly’.

Listed amongst credits as producer of BBC 1Xtra (DJ Target) backed single titled ‘One Time’, a lead single featured on Olami Still’s 2019 EP release ‘Guide Me Through’, D L K is set to continue his great and rightly earned rise to become notable and worthy amongst the greats in the entertainment and lifestyle industry globally.

Song of the Day: Peanut Butter Hazel – Bellah

Singer-songwriter BELLAH Bellah makes her entry onto the blog with latest single, ‘Peanut Butter Hazel’. The track is the second single to be released from upcoming EP, “Last Train Home”, following recent debut, “Never Loved”.

Produced by classically-trained jazz musician Alexander Lewis, known for his work with Earth Gangand Juice WRLD, the track is underpinned by a timeless R&B sound – with its minimalist beat proving an ideal match for Bellah’s irresistible vocals and sensual lyrics.

Making the decision to focus on her own music at the age of 17, BELLAH‘s profile continues to rise, recently achieving widespread support on Capital Xtra and BBC Radio 1Xtra for her work on ‘Purpose’ by Ulteria, as well as featuring on Courage’s ‘Long Way Up’.

‘Peanut Butter Hazel’ further showcases BELLAH’s voice to become a mainstay within the British R&B scene.

New Track: Prayers For Life – Ironik (ft. K Koke)

Producer, DJ and Rapper, IRONIK links up with one of the UK’s biggest Rap exports, K Koke for new single ‘Prayers For Life’.

The collaboration comes as no surprise as IRONIK has been dropping impressive music featuring the cream of UK talent throughout his career including records with Skepta, Chip, Wiley, Wretch 32 and most recently with JME, Fekky and even went Stateside with Snoop Dogg for 2017 release ‘Tuff’.

Produced by Lizzy Beats, ‘Prayers For Life’ is an honest lyrical insight to both rappers journeys. With a retrospective narrative, the pair delve into the blessings, mistakes and hardships that they’ve encountered and how it’s shaped them and their lives. With the sleek visuals set in a church, the cutaways to balaclava clad women and dark close ups of onlookers represent the elements of hardship and hope that are explored in the record.

Whilst IRONIK has a lengthy list of musical achievements as an artist that include a number five official chart position, a top five single, a top ten single, a top ten album and over a million record sales, he is also a hugely successful international DJ that has regular stints in clubbing capitals such as Dubai, Japan and all across Europe. His producer credits include tracks for Tinie Tempah, Chip & Wiley

Premiered on Tim Westwood’s Capital Xtra show, ‘Prayers For Life’ is out now on all DSP’s. Check out the video for the track below:

EP Review: Intermission Vol.1 – Ricardo Williams

The build-up to the release of RICARDO WILLIAMS‘ EP, ‘Intermissions Vol.1′ has been PHENOMENAL, especially when it comes to the Come Over challenge – one of the singles from the collection – which offers different remixes of the original. More recently, R&B queen Teedra Moses graced her soothing vocals on the afterhours joint.

Now, finally, the big man of UK R&B has graced his presence with the eight track set, released via BBC 1Xtra DJ Ace’s label Recordbox late last month.

After the introduction, a very familiar mist of afterhours sets the tone with Williams’ powerful vocal instrumental effortlessly piercing through the bed of feathery soundscapes, starting with the original version of ‘Come Over’. That misty and airy tones continue on all the way through with tracks, ‘He Ain’t Me’ and ‘All I Need’.

In just a few years, It has been great to witness such a journey where a upcoming homegrown talent, who (in my opinion) exceeded his mission on pushing REAL R&B to the forefront, to flourished into one of the most promising R&B powerhouses to excite, not just his UK hometown, but across the globe.
