Joyce Wrice Releases Debut Album, ‘Overgrown’

Following her debut appearance on the blog with single, ‘For One,’ featuring rapper Freddie Gibbs, promising R&B upriser, JOYCE WRICE returns with her highly anticipated debut album ‘Overgrown’ released via Sony Music’s The Orchard.

Executive produced by 2021 “Song of the Year”’ GRAMMY Award winner and 2021 Golden Globe Award-nominated producer D’Mile (H.E.R., Victoria Monet, The Carters), Wrice’s 14-track Overgrown LP includes notable appearances by Lucky Daye, Masego, Freddie Gibbs, UMI, Kaytranada, Westside Gunn, and Devin Morrison as well as previously released tracks ‘So So Sick’ and ‘Falling in Love,’ the latter of which was just featured on Lucky Daye’s Table For Two duets EP alongside songs by the likes of YEBBA, Tiana Major9, Mahalia, Ari Lennox, and Queen Naija.

Known for her sweet lyrics and distinct tone, Wrice delivers a more mature and assured sound throughout ‘Overgrown’, which finds the songstress showcasing her impressive vocal range and songwriting prowess among an all-star set of esteemed R&B and hip-hop collaborators. From upbeat standout ‘Falling in Love’ with Lucky Daye, to smooth and confident soul jam ‘Addicted,’ to the more laid back vibes of ‘Must Be Nice’ featuring Masego and title track ‘Overgrown,’ Wrice’s classically modern sound and perspective resonates with her generation

Wrice’s ‘Overgrown’ possesses all the toe-curling ingredients of the old good 90’s R&B fused with distinctive modern sounds, reminiscent of Amerie’s 2002 debut album, ‘All I Have’. Check out ‘Overgrown below plus songs recommendations:

Song of the Day: The Way You Love – Rèe Cliene

South London born singer-songwriter RÉE CELINE graces the blog with her debut single, ‘The Way You Love’ (#TWYL)

‘The Way You Love’ may be her first offering as a solo artist, but Rée has been enchanting audiences with her silky, soprano vocals for years. Often compared to Ariana Grande, H.E.R, Jhené Aiko and Brandy, the young songstress has worked on the UK Music scene providing backing vocals for Buddy, Jermain Jackman, Yxng Bane and Charlotte.

Showing lyrical and vocal maturity at just 19 years old ‘The Way You Love’, (#TWYL) explores themes of her first love and the idea of being lost in love. Through this silky smooth joint, Rée was inspired by diverse influences such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Brandy.

New Track: Without You – GNGR

‘Without You’ is the captivating debut single from exciting new British singer and songwriter GNGR. Produced by Sampl, who has worked with the likes of Skepta, Ms Banks and Shystie, the slow-building atmospheric R&B offering is just a teaser of what you can expect from GNGR in 2018, and the first taste of her forthcoming debut project, which will be released at the end of the year.

For fans on H.E.R, Sabrina Claudio and Daniel Caesar, GNGR has been honing and perfecting her own unique slant on today’s alternative R&B sound, driven by raw and honest lyrics, and her amazing voice, which oozes the most soulful tones, while taking influences from R&B stalwarts such as Destiny’s Child, India Arie, Anthony Hamilton and Frank Ocean, who have all helped shaped her music.

Our first flavour of this is the exquisite ‘Without You’, which sees GNGR yearning for a love that is doomed from the start, but she just can’t seem to let go. Backed by moody keyboard arrangements, minimalist cymbals, and lush grand piano undertones, GNGR holds the record together beautifully, with an enchanting vocal performance, and confessional lyrics, that we can all relate to…
