New Music Video: Groove – Shaka Shams (ft. Olivier William)

Currently residing  Belgium, 18-year old rapper and poet SHAKA SHAMS drops the video to his hip-hop/funk number, suitably entitled ‘Groove.’

The latest release comes from his new EP, Elements: Crystal Clear, which sees SHAKA SHAMS – who took the name from his South African/Zulu roots – demonstrating his versatility as a performer, marrying his naturalistic rhymes with lyrics inspired by everything from street scenes to films to anime. It is these borderless sonic journeys that drag you into this teenager’s world, a place with no boundaries. Crystal Clear is the first in a series of releases under the Elements banner which will see Shaka exploring different themes – with this EP it’s the sometimes murky world of late night club life.

Having picked up the hip-hop bug from his cousin at the age of 11, he started recording his own track at their house. Though it would have been easy to keep music as just a hobby, Shaka was determined to get to the next level and to get his music heard by as many people as possible. Taking influence from hip-hop both old and new, as well as keeping a close eye/ear on subgenres such as hip house, trap and boom-bap.

So it’s time to get a little taste of Shaka’s work; check out ‘Groove’…

New Track: Vogue – J Kas

Following the release of the boom bap project ‘Dreamlife’ in February – which was named Album of the Month by NEW LEASE MUSIC – UK rapper J KAS bounces right back with something that’s guaranteed to shake up your summer…

His latest Mantra-produced track, ‘Vogue’ – the first release from his forthcoming project, ‘Dreamlife Summer Jamz’ – sees the Sheffield wordsmith’s delivery effortlessly vibing with the upbeat chords, fused with tropical house and splashes of Afrobeats.

J KAS will be touring across Portugal to engage with the natives for the production of his Summer Jamz project and will go on to headline at this year’s Elevate Young Minds Lisbon Festival and Tramlines Music Festival.

Along with his recent success with his ‘Dreamlife’ EP on this blog, J KAS has also received raving praises in the past from BBC Radio One/ BBC 1Xtra’s elite music tastemakers, Charlie Sloth, DJ Ace, Huw Stevens and Tony Robinson. His summer-charged track ‘Dem Gyal Deh’ featuring Franz-Von, peaked at number 12 in the BBC introducing Sheffield Top 50 Tracks of 2017.

New Track: Always Major – B. Eveready

Following his debut appearance on NEW LEASE MUSIC with R&B/hip-hop slammer ‘I’ma Hssla’ just over a year ago, B. EVEREADY finds his way back to the centre stage with latest ‘Always Major.’

Unlike his previous effort, which sports a real nostalgic 90s vibe, ‘Always Major’, is a bang-to-date joint with a seriously deep ‘West Coast’ flow, featuring the Boston native’s lack-back delivery cruising along with the bounce of the heavy bassline.

This one is dedicated to the true hustlers who are destined for greatness…take time out and have a listen…

Song of the Day: Doing It Stealthy – Oloff

Coming from his latest EP ‘Abyssopelagic’, released earlier this month, OLOFF drops his uptempo offering entitled ‘Doing It Stealthy.’

The accompanied video features the Bristolian working the stage, while slamming his wayward but satisfying flow over State 808-esque bars.

The EP itself features a mix of genres, ranging from hip-hop to ambient/experimental, where he plans to release each one as a single. Take time out and check out ‘Abyssopelagic‘ here.

New Music Video: Sanctified – Otis Mensah

OTIS MENSAH continues his run of video releases through track entitled ‘Sanctified.’

The three-and-a-half minute production featured the experimental hip-hop conscious prodigy expresses his truth through artistic self-expression, tempered by the burden of self-doubt and depression.

The young Sheffield native was previously featured with a hazy boombap effort, ‘Oh Jane’ back in February, which tackles the issue isolation after losing a love interest.

Check out his latest work; deep as ever…
