Song of the Day: Better Without U- Javi Jimenez

After being nominated as Best New Artist for ACAM Awards with his first three songs released in 2020, Costa Rica-based indie-pop singer JAVI JIMENEZ follows up with a rather melodically catchy tune titled, ‘Better Without U,’ a great introduction to his upcoming debut EP.

The singer worked alongside guitarist Alberto Álvarez, mixing their songwriting, guitar arrangements and production abilities to shape the songs into thought-out emotional pop songs that fit nicely in the libraries of fans of LANY or The 1975.

Speaking of the single, Javi says: “‘Better Without U’ is about that “fake it till you make it” attitude in getting over someone. When you’re in your most vulnerable and honest, at 3am, you admit you would do anything to get back to your loved one, but you feel like you could never show that, so you pretend you’re ok, you lie and say you’re better off. This lie escalates and, often, leads to harmful overcompensation trying to hook up constantly with whoever you can, ironically leaving you feeling even more alone in the end”

Song of the Day: Animal Type – MISS LIA

With rich, velvety vox ablaze amidst a sense of passion and playfulness, Toronto singer/songwriter MISS LIA‘s single ‘Animal Type’ captures the carnal charge around setting sights on who you want.

Written in Miss Lia’s unique fashion — a confident, inspired, spontaneous type of lyricism — the song’s origins are rooted in the pop-R&B artist’s penchant for emotionally-driven songwriting that pulls on both past experiences and in-the-moment feelings.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the sultry single, Miss Lia says: “For ‘Animal Type,’ I was getting ready to go out, and started ‘feeling myself’ — confident and sexy — like an empowered woman . The vibe just came to me… I was watching myself in the mirror and started singing the melody of the intro. I came up with the first verse and chorus at that moment, and left them unchanged.”

Looking to capture the classic ‘I need you’ feeling, Miss Lia uses ‘Animal Type’ to relate with those who find themselves suddenly overtaken by lust’s ‘I’ve got to have you’ impulse. While the song feels sensuous and provocative upon first listen, it’s Lia’s confidence and empowered spirit intertwined with each line that seeks to seduce the listener further.

Following previously unveiled singles, ‘Dangerous,’ ‘Lonely,’ and ‘Summersault,’ ‘Animal Type’ is the latest to land from Miss Lia. The multi-talented artist recently immersed herself in music, having spent the duration of Covid-related restrictions contemplating a fork in the road; having initially pushed aside her ambitions to pursue music, focusing on academics and athletics instead, Lia spent the time revisiting and rediscovering her passions for poetry and music, and the deep emotional connection it creates.

Jessica Wilde Keeps The Momentum Going With Single, ‘L.A. Boy’

London’s Jessica Wilde is proving one of the UK’s hottest new talents right now, with a string of sizzling singles that have lit up BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and gained serious press praise from the likes of Complex, Clash, The Independent and many more. Her eager Instagram following has also been expanding rapidly and lapping up Wilde’s regular ‘P*ssy PWR’ playlists and IG Live series, with which she showcases her favourite female artists as her comedic alter-ego; ‘Ya gurl Charlene’.

Wilde’s style ranges from chilled and thoughtful spoken word gems to bouncy in-your-face bangers that are woven with her gritty real-life experiences and poetic observations. The combination of her candid hazy diary entry interludes and huge soaring pop-soul choruses packs a real and lasting musical punch.

Her new cut ‘LA Boy’ has a glittering laid back trip-hop style. With the repeating refrain ‘Back To LA’ washing over again and again, the track feels like a dreamy beach day sipping cocktails but laced with the darker undertones of break-up pain. A fleeting romantic encounter, when the dream is over Jessica’s ‘LA Boy’ is gone and she’s left wondering. And likewise, when the track winds up, Jessica leaves us wanting more.

‘LA Boy’ is the next single to be taken from Jessica Wilde’s forthcoming album which charts her journey from addiction and toxic relationships to self-empowerment and living sober. Like previous single from the album, it’s a snapshot of a moment of realization which helped her move forward with this transformation. Wilde says, “I had a whirlwind relationship with a guy from LA, only here for a two week stay and he swept me up as quick as he dropped me down. A short-lived romance but had a pivotal part in my journey to living sober. The song tells all…”

With ‘LA Boy’ being Jessica Wilde’s 7th single of 2021, it’s a testament to her raw and special songwriting and vocal talents that she has yet again delivered another complete tune. Following the single release, Jessica Wilde will hit the iconic Hootananny stage in her home area Brixton on 1st December, for her first Headline show of 2021, along with a full force female line up of incredible guest artists supporting her. But this night has a twist…

Wilde’s pink wigged, biro smoking, pssy powered alter ego ‘Ya gurl Charlene’ will be making her debut appearance and hosting the evening. From what started as a ‘PssY PWR’ Spotify playlist of all Wilde’s fave female artists and fronted by Charlene, has expanded into an Instagram live series where Charlene interviews her fave female artists, a ‘P*ssY PWR’ merch line drop, in collaboration with FAME Magazine, and now Charlene hosting a real life live show featuring Wilde herself and some of the most exciting female acts coming up on the scene.

Song of the Day: Free spirit Freestyle/Park Up (BTS) – RizzyB

East London’s emerging rapper RIZZYB returns, following on from the success of his previous release ‘Weh Ya Deh’ with his latest single ‘Park Up’. Produced by Jamaican born music producer Wizical, ‘Park Up’ is as infectious as ever with Rizzy bringing us through from Summer to Autumn with ease.

Featuring his signature smooth style and presence, the track is a fusion of rap and melodic vocals, flaunting Rizzy’s innate ability to captivate his listeners. The perfect blend of both mellow R&B and Dancehall, Rizzy effortlessly delivers yet another weighted offering.

Instead of producing an official music video, Rizzy gathered a team of creatives to contribute their natural gifts through an engaging freestyle video fused together with a candid ‘behind the scenes’ montage. ‘Anatural’, a term that Rizzy coined himself, is a core philosophy in not just his musical approach, but also in his approach to life.

Rizzy wrote and performed ‘Free Spirit Freestyle’, showcasing his lyrical ability and captivating artist presence, and enlisted photographer Keanu Reeves, director Tan Wright and model DKabs to come together and capture press shots for the artwork of the single. This unique merging of each persons individual talents allowed a uniquely authentic product to be born.
