EP Review: Echo – Turya

TURYA‘s latest EP ‘Echo’ is immediately compelling thanks to the acoustic and intimate setting which, at times, is accompanied with a bed of airy electronic and folklore soundscapes, featured in title track, ‘Echo’, ‘Magical Moments’ and remixed version of her well-received 2017 single, ‘Rain’.

However what makes this South London singer/songwriter so intriguing and captivating is her stellar vocal performance in third effort, ‘There Will Be A Place’, which heavily draws influence from, what I believe it to be, the technique of Hindustani singing.

It’s great to see TURYA back on full form by pushing her Hindu beliefs/bohemian influences further into the forefront. To be honest, I didn’t think she could top her previous EP, ‘Ocean’ – but hands up, I was soooo wrong, because this mini collection is something else.

Song of the Day: How I Stay – SS

One of the most ambitious and active music makers of the UK scene, SwanSounds aka SS is the next star you need to know about and the release of his single ‘How I Stay’ indicates why he is set for very big things.

Perhaps most widely known for working with artists such as Burna Boy, Samini and producing and co writing Dappy’s hit ‘All We Know’, as well as starring in the video too, it’s clear to recognize that SS is not only brimming with talent but sauce too. The young music boss captures everything about what it is right now to stand out and does it with defined clarity and confidence.

With an impressive slew of his own music discoverable online, including ‘03.07.17’, ‘Gasolina’ and ‘Yeah Yeah’ he has been championed by platforms such as HotNewHipHop for his international appeal, while he’s filtered his music through more American sounds, his UK roots are clear from the second he steps on the track, making for an interesting but very fluid fusion of sounds, indicating a cross-Atlantic appeal.

A master of the studio and song writing, ‘How I Stay’ defines Swan’s sound as classy simplistic piano based beats are cut and twisted around a melodic vocal delivery. Intimate moments and feelings occupy the melodic and lilting drum patterns of the record as emotion and truth are audible in the delivery.

‘How I Stay’ is the first record from collaborative mixtape set for release alongside Honey6. The music is deeply rooted in artistry and musicality from the past whilst his music covers the emotions of a young man finding his place in this ever-changing world.

New Music Video: Can’t Get Through To You – Nemi

Alt-pop singer/songwriter NEMI has revealed the video to her rather euphoric single, ‘Can’t Get Through To You’.

The nostalgic video features her best friends who helped pull her through a difficult period of anxiety, giving the four-minute production a real wholesome feel.

‘I Can’t Get Through To You’ is taken from her debut EP, ‘You’, out now on all download/streaming sites. Check out the video below:

New Music Video: Your Love – Noble Gray

Frontman Fabian and Jarmane Raad-McAndrew, better known as NOBLE GRAY have made their entry on the blog with the brand new video for single, ‘Your Love’.

The four-minute production boasts stunning images of negative effect, which reflects the pair’s unflappable love for each other, topped off with the single’s modern take of 90’s afterhours.

Although the London duo have been collaborating for several years, they finally took the leap and released their debut album, ‘Throwback’ last month after working hard on the project over the last two years. The self written/produced album consists of pop-infused melodies paired with synth beats, drawing inspiration from a range of genres – from R&B to Electronica….go and check it out sometime.

New Track: Let It Go – Jo Cocco ❨ft HAM the Illustrator, MC Solomon & Hughdem❩

French-born London/based producer, multi-instrumentalist and session player JO COCCO released his first solo project via his new production company Joozzy Records, following international success after having collaborated and toured with renowned acts including Aloe Blacc and Gentleman (on Imperfection), Max Romeo, Sly and Robbie, Sara Lugo.

Wanting to face new challenges, JO COCCO relocated to the UK in 2017 where he recently produced The Wise Bloods latest single Turn The Tide (featured on radio BBC4).

As a well-established Reggae and Blues producer as well as guitarist, Jo’s expansion to Hip Hop was just a matter of time and a long term goal of his. He wrote, composed and produced an extremely catchy summer vibes track ‘Let It Go’, mixing Blues with Hip-Hop, influenced by the 70s/80s and guitar sounds reminiscent of BB King.

The song has come a long way since Jo started recording the beat in 2016/2017 in France. It was only in London that he finally found the voices he was looking for. Supporting the local Hip- Hop scene, Jo enlisted three emerging London rap talents: Ham The Illustrator, a Namibian-born rapper, activist and creative who also designed the cover art to ‘Let It Go’; MC Solomon who is a regular performer in the UK live scene and Hughdem, who forms part of the well-established Brixton Hip Hop collective AndWhat (featured on IAmHipHop).

Together they finessed ‘Let It Go’. Check out the video for the track below:
