Song of the Day: Jersey Luv – Groovy (ft. B Jack$)

New Jersey artist GROOVY‘s single ‘jersey luv’, is an exhilarating R&B/Jersey Club fusion that is fitting for both late nights with your lover and late nights on the dance floor. Inspired by his New Jersey roots and the Jersey club global phenomenon, the single pays homage to the genre while incorporating staple Y2K R&B elements that allow Groovy to share his most intimate desires. Opening with a lustrous and laid back R&B melody, Groovy’s sultry vocals narrate the inner workings of his mind over the seductive production brought to life by producer Alejandro. The track then crescendos into a fully charged Jersey Club experience fuelled by staple steely triplet kick-drums and exuberant vocal chops, as fellow NJ artist B Jack$’ intoxicating freestyle verses take centre stage. The juxtaposing elements invite you to embrace the euphoric tension created between the two sonic atmospheres, as Groovy proves his ability to conceptualize a track that lives up to his name.

The single is accompanied by an official music video shot in Newark, NJ – a sentiment to Jersey Club as Newark is the birthplace of the movement and genre itself. Directed by Chris Andrade, viewers travel from a front row seat at a sumptuous fashion show to the exclusive backstage afterparty where everyone is seen doing what they do best when the Jersey Club beat drops. Every role necessary in bringing this vision to life was filled by New Jersey talent; this release is a special homegrown recipe and inspiration for all proud New Jerseyans, as their creative abilities are showcased for the world to see.

When asked what inspires his artistic endeavors, GROOVY explained, “My dad was a touring House DJ growing up, which allowed me to experience a unique cultural appreciation for the genre. Artists from around the world would come together to collaborate at my childhood home; witnessing that free artistic expression at such a young age was really special for me. Jersey has a huge influence on the dance/house genre, which inspired me to create music that is fueled by electricity, expression and liberation, all in my own neo-pop, R&B niche way.”

“jersey luv” follows a string of 2022 singles including groove-inducing ‘Platonic,’ and melancholy summer jam ‘Come Around.’ The traversing musician’s Brooklyn Music Kitchen residency brings fans together on the last Tuesday of every month, as they travel from near and far for his captivating, full-band live performances. Keep an eye out for Groovy as he continues to shine with his eclectic blend of neo-pop, R&B, and house while solidifying himself as one to watch in 2023.

Charles On TV Releases Soul-Searching Single, ‘Quarter Century.’

New York City’s artist CHARLES ON TV gets vulnerable in his groovy, indie-pop/disco single ‘Quarter Century.’ Filled with colourful, impressionistic and soulful instrumentation, the single documents the rising artist’s internal dialogue as a quarter life crisis washes over him in waves.

On the inspiration behind the single, Charles On TV explains, “I’m sure many people can relate to the idea that sometimes, we wish we could go back and do it all over again. For me, I think about how I should have come out earlier, chose my friends more wisely, and maybe even approached my music career differently. I have been stuck in an unhealthy cycle of comparing myself to others; Instead of being encouraged by my achievements, I’ve been feeling discouraged by what I haven’t achieved. This song is the devil and angel on your shoulder, one telling you to give up and one telling you to never stop believing in your dreams.”

The single is accompanied by a stunning official video shot in Los Angeles and directed by Dylan Siegel, where Charles On TV traverse across vast landscapes, alone and on a mission to deepen his understanding of what his future has in store. These remarkable, desolate nature shots almost feel symbolic of a monk’s retreat, as he dances his way through an infinite universe searching for existential answers.

Charles On TV’s fans pour in from all over the city for his one-of-a-kind live performances, taking the stage at iconic NYC venues including the Bowery Electric, Union Pool (where he performed his debut headlining show), and Knitting Factory. An incredibly intuitive, introspective artist, Charles On TV has created a streamline of tunes with the natural ability to cross oceans and decades, and is sure to make a lasting mark on the world of music for years to come. Danny Kuttner Shares Alt-Soul Single, ‘Chasing Myself’ + Announces New EP.

Tel Aviv based artist DANNY KUTTNER shares new single ‘Chasing Myself’, alongside announcing her brand new EP ‘Purple’ to be released via Kartel Music Group.

Born in Amsterdam and raised in Israel, Danny steps into the spotlight with a smooth and soulful track influenced by ECM’s contemporary jazz and 90s neo-soul, all whilst blending laid-back organic tones with left-field electronic production. ‘Chasing Myself’ sees Danny Kuttner talking about very raw and intimate life situations whilst her self-production has beautifully captured the deep meanings behind her lyrics. Combining a variety of synths and live instruments such as trumpets, classic guitar and bass, this track not only shows off her talent but also her attention to detail beyond the recording process.

Talking about the track Danny explains: “Chasing Myself was written when I was in a loving relationship and knowing how important it is to have my time alone. There was a point where I lost myself and got a harsh mirror, and I wanted to write about that experience.

I feel there are so many love songs, where I wanted to create a song about a different side of loving someone. About being alone inside of a relationship, bringing myself time of nourishments and self love. It brought me back the ability to truly give love to somebody else”

Danny Kuttner’s new single ‘Chasing Myself’ is out now alongside its music video and is taken from the forthcoming EP ‘Purple’. Watch the video for ‘Chasing Myself’ below…

Queen Naija Confronts Self- Absorbed Men In Single, ‘Let’s Talk About It’.

Multi-platinum songstress QUEEN NAIJA kicks off the new year with ‘Let’s Talk About It’ — a slow-burning soulful R&B single that calls out all the self-absorbed and drama-obsessed men of the world. Accompanied by a cinematic video that finds Queen taking back her power, ‘Let’s Talk About It’ arrives around the Detroit-bred artist’s milestone five-year anniversary of her breakthrough hit ‘Medicine’ (a double-platinum smash that premiered on New Year’s Day in 2018 and immediately set her meteoric rise in motion).

Co-written by Queen with Mike Woods (G-Eazy, Tink, Ty Dolla $ign) and producer Oak Felder (Kehlani, Nicki Minaj, Pink Sweat$), ‘Let’s Talk About It’ possesses a soulful backdrop of lush textures and hypnotic beats, the bold but vulnerable track challenges the men in her life to face their issues once and for all.

Directed by Sara Lacombe, the video for ‘Let’s Talk About It’ opens on a shot of Queen driving rapidly through windy roads. It soon follows her to an abandoned warehouse where two other women assist her in bringing out her man tied up for Queen to confront him. Once inside the shadowy warehouse, a series of TV monitors light up to reveal footage of emotional crimes committed in the man’s past, as Queen autocratically circles her captive. Spliced with gorgeously captured performance shots of Queen, the visual ultimately finds her urging him to talk about what he’s done and fully own up to his actions. Alongside Queen, the video stars actor/rapper Lil Meech as her man from the 50 Cent produced television drama series BMF.

Not only dropping just after the five-year anniversary of ‘Medicine’ — a track that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 — ‘Let’s Talk About It’ follows another major triumph for Queen: ‘Hate Our Love,’ her early-2022 RIAA gold-certified collaboration single with GRAMMY®-nominated superstar Big Sean. Released last February — and later accompanied by an official video directed by Cam Busby (Wiz Khalifa, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby) — ‘Hate Our Love’ marked another showing on the Billboard Hot 100, amassed over 265 million combined global streams, hit No. 1 crowning Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, and received a 2022 BET Soul Train Award nomination.

With more than five billion combined global streams to date, Queen made her full-length debut with missunderstood — a 2020 release that entered the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart at No. 1 and cracked the top ten of the Billboard 200. Nominated for a 2021 American Music Award in the Favorite R&B Album category, missunderstood features Queen’s No. 1 hit ‘Butterflies Pt. 2’ along with her RIAA gold-certified singles ‘Pack Lite’ and ‘Lie To Me’ featuring Lil Durk.
