Drawing inspiration from the great Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Nina Simone, Jamaican singer, songwriter, guitarist J SUMMA’s debut single, ‘Heaven and Home’ is a soul/R&B masterpiece. It stands out immediately, with J-Summa’s soulful voice and stunning falsetto starting off the song and setting the tone before the bluesy production kicks in and elevates the track even further. Lyrically, it speaks on experiencing true love and connecting with a soulmate and no doubt the song will connect with listeners around the world.
Speaking further on his debut release, J-Summa says, “‘Heaven and Home’ is the unique, delicate yet beautiful balance between yourself and your loved one. It’s easy to have a house but not a home. Produced, mixed and mastered entirely by platinum selling writer Christopher ‘Scam’ Layton, singer-songwriter T. FERNANDEZ‘s second spellbinding body of work ‘Once Upon A Melody’, is an amalgamation of T’s own thoughts and complicated feelings, penned by herself.
Exploring themes of anxiety and self preservation, tracks like ‘Make It Make Sense’ showcase T’s compelling ability to lay it all down on the track. Playful moments on the EP include her collaboration with PaisleighB on track ‘Not With Me’, which bears an unapologetic, no-nonsense vibe. ‘Once Upon A Melody’ is delightfully brought to a close with T’s final offering ‘Saviour’ – a closing affirmation to remember to “show up for yourself through thick and thin”.
Born in West London to a Spanish Father and English Mother, T. Fernandez is an emerging singer-songwriter with a penchant for dreamy storytelling. T was raised in Brighton, where she developed a love for the cello during her primary school days, before returning back to London where she currently resides.
T’s secondary school years were a pivotal time for her as she began to discover her voice and the freedom she felt from singing. Putting down the cello to instead sing along to her favourite songs in her bedroom, this led her to attend a small theatre school after convincing her parents she was destined to pursue a career in music.
Undoubtedly inheriting an innate creative streak from her ballet dancing Mother and artist Father, T describes her upbringing as a time filled with “enriched experiences of the arts” that nurtured her now love and passion for self expression through music. T divulges on growing up with parents from different cultures with different languages, cuisines and customs as something she is “proud of”.
Notably throughout the span of her career, T. Fernandez has been championed and featured throughout a plethora of different mediums including radio plays on Westside, Flex FM, Pulse 88, Deja Vú, Unity Radio, GFM Radio, Rhythm In Britain and Relax and Bake FM, and with appearances on platforms such as the Frequency Platform, Black Owned London’s ‘The Spotlight Sessions’.
Her most notable releases include her debut EP ‘In My Poetic Feels’, with her debut single ‘One’ being one of her personal picks to date.
As she releases her succeeding EP ‘Once Upon A Melody’, T. Fernandez has plans to connect more deeply with listeners of her music throughout 2023 and beyond. Expect live performances, features and collaborations in the near future… have a listen below…
New York City’s artist CHARLES ON TV gets vulnerable in his groovy, indie-pop/disco single ‘Quarter Century.’ Filled with colourful, impressionistic and soulful instrumentation, the single documents the rising artist’s internal dialogue as a quarter life crisis washes over him in waves.
On the inspiration behind the single, Charles On TV explains, “I’m sure many people can relate to the idea that sometimes, we wish we could go back and do it all over again. For me, I think about how I should have come out earlier, chose my friends more wisely, and maybe even approached my music career differently. I have been stuck in an unhealthy cycle of comparing myself to others; Instead of being encouraged by my achievements, I’ve been feeling discouraged by what I haven’t achieved. This song is the devil and angel on your shoulder, one telling you to give up and one telling you to never stop believing in your dreams.”
The single is accompanied by a stunning official video shot in Los Angeles and directed by Dylan Siegel, where Charles On TV traverse across vast landscapes, alone and on a mission to deepen his understanding of what his future has in store. These remarkable, desolate nature shots almost feel symbolic of a monk’s retreat, as he dances his way through an infinite universe searching for existential answers.
Charles On TV’s fans pour in from all over the city for his one-of-a-kind live performances, taking the stage at iconic NYC venues including the Bowery Electric, Union Pool (where he performed his debut headlining show), and Knitting Factory. An incredibly intuitive, introspective artist, Charles On TV has created a streamline of tunes with the natural ability to cross oceans and decades, and is sure to make a lasting mark on the world of music for years to come. Tel Aviv based artist DANNY KUTTNER shares new single ‘Chasing Myself’, alongside announcing her brand new EP ‘Purple’ to be released via Kartel Music Group.
Born in Amsterdam and raised in Israel, Danny steps into the spotlight with a smooth and soulful track influenced by ECM’s contemporary jazz and 90s neo-soul, all whilst blending laid-back organic tones with left-field electronic production. ‘Chasing Myself’ sees Danny Kuttner talking about very raw and intimate life situations whilst her self-production has beautifully captured the deep meanings behind her lyrics. Combining a variety of synths and live instruments such as trumpets, classic guitar and bass, this track not only shows off her talent but also her attention to detail beyond the recording process.
Talking about the track Danny explains: “Chasing Myself was written when I was in a loving relationship and knowing how important it is to have my time alone. There was a point where I lost myself and got a harsh mirror, and I wanted to write about that experience.
I feel there are so many love songs, where I wanted to create a song about a different side of loving someone. About being alone inside of a relationship, bringing myself time of nourishments and self love. It brought me back the ability to truly give love to somebody else”
Danny Kuttner’s new single ‘Chasing Myself’ is out now alongside its music video and is taken from the forthcoming EP ‘Purple’. Watch the video for ‘Chasing Myself’ below…
Elegant USA-based band KARMACODA shared their song ‘Dare’, which is taken from their latest album, Lessons In Time, via Sola Musa Music.
In the spirit of love, Karmacoda’s impassioned songstress Jessica Ford makes her desire known in the single, as she risks it all and takes the leap. Jazz-inspired instruments entice, while each word teases, calling a lover to action. Jessica brings the track together with her seductive vocals, making its final destination a sweet embrace.
Discussing the LP, the band’s on vocals and producer, Brett Crockett (aka B) says: “We began writing Lesson in Time immediately after the completion of the album before it (Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire) which dealt with the uncertainty of the early parts of the pandemic. Lessons in Time is about both looking forward to what the future will be and simultaneously looking back at what we once had, what we loved, and what we lost. Themes of time and flying and the need for emotional personal connections emerged, unconsciously, but they were obvious once the album was done.”
Having been placed in several film and TV scores, the three-piece band has won several awards including the Hermes Creative Awards (Platinum) for the ‘Lo-Fi Girl’ video and ‘Make Me The One’ video which also earned one Unglued Music Video (Gold) and three Davey Awards for Video Entertainment, Best Use of Music and Art Direction (all Silver). Based in San Francisco, USA, KARMACODA is comprised of Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (aka B. on vocals and producer) and Japanese-American multi-instrumentalist Eric Matsuno (bass and other unique elements). The trio’s sound has been compared to a unique mix of Paloma Faith, Adele, and Pixie Lott.
‘Dare’ follows their video for ‘Time Flies’ , which clocked up over 12K views since its release last month.
