ABUDEDI ZONJON delivers his second official single of the year, ‘We’re Here’, sealed with bundles of optimism to overcome all the disappointment, betrayal and hurt from so-called close ones.
Although this song is very close to this Denmark-based artist’s heart, ‘We’re Here’ serves as an ode to tackle any life challenges. Producer Wakayna adds a magical hit-the-dancefloor vibes, driving the message home to naysayers that you’ve survived any adversities they’ve caused.
The single caught the attention of hip-hop heavyweight Fat Joe, who personally reached out to Abudebi and congratulated him on his hard work on the larger-than-life production. ‘We’re Here’ follows Abudebi’s first single of the year, ‘Biggest Wov’. The rambunctious trap-fused single was inspired by his son’s unmatched, off-the-wall personality.
Starting out his music career in his native country Ghana, Abudebi has shared stages with some of Africa’s biggest names. He also featured on B. E. T Award winner Stonebwoy’s track, ‘More Gyal’ – and Stonebwoy returned the favour by collaborating on Abudebi’s singles, ‘Ponkor remix’ (2015) and ‘Mugun Yaro’ (2016). Abudebi also hooked-up with rapper Sarkodie for 2015 single, ‘Pump It Up,’ before releasing his debut EP, ‘15:00’ in 2017, which features various collaborations from Nigeria, Ghana, Denmark and Czech Republic.
He then moved to Denmark to work with the country’s most respected music figures – the legendary artist and producer Pharfar and Danish reggae/dancehall/hip-hop phenomena, Kaka.
This year saw Abudebi headlining at Denmark’s hottest venues, Musikcaféen and RUST Showcase. There’s no signs of Abudebi slowing down, as he gears up to perform at Ghanaian artist King Promises’ tour on 28th October in Denmark.
Boasting boisterous pick-me-up energy, ‘We’re Here’ is out now across various music platforms. Have a listen below…
NEELA has leant a lot from making her latest single, ‘Exposed’. Pure, raw and unapologetically her, the young songstress used this song to begin the healing process of years of feeling insecure – and is now ready to share her experience.
“I used to weigh 240 lbs for most of my life,” Neela confides. “I’ve been scrutinized and bullied for my body size. Although my body went through a transformation, it also left stretch marks and loose skin. These experiences created a lot of insecurities and it’s been a journey to accept and love my story, body, and identity.”
‘Exposed’ is also about experiencing that unconditional love where one can be their true self. The single is the title track from Neela’s upcoming EP – be sure to look out for that. Until then, why not listen to the heartfelt single below…
Tony Luke Jr. beautifully expresses his grief in ‘One More Night.’ This beautifully crafted heartfelt piano ballad is inspired by his late son’s death, after a grueling battle with addiction in 2017. The song is composed of delicate piano chords joined with Tony’s rich, emotive voice to create a track that will touch any heart who has experienced loss.
Following his lost, Tony Luke Jr started The Sound Mind Network, with multi-Grammy award winner Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo, where he will be donating all of the proceeds of ‘One More Night’ to the organization. The Sound Mind Network has grown immensely over the last few years with support from The Bacon Brothers (Kevin and Michael Bacon), Cyndi Lauper, Kathy Sledge, Wyclef Jean, G. Love and Special Sauce, Taj Mahal, ElectraQueens, Cory Singer, Bailey James, Sophie B. Hawkins, and Tony Luke Jr. himself.
The music video shows the pain and emotion behind Tony Luke Jr.’s raw lyrics. The setting’s sparsity of Tony standing with a microphone, no instrument in hand, immersed in the music brings attention to the message. The true focus is on the emotional story, adding an even more personal touch to an already personal song.
The instrumentals do not overpower him. We get close-ups of the different instruments used in the song, which make them more noticeable in the background of the track. This allows you to sink into the song more and really let it wash over you. Such a powerful song needs only a simple video to accompany it, and Tony did just that.
I hope you’re ready to get really weird-out, as producer and multi-field artist Maria Nyström – aka – MANX invites you inside a tripped-out yet fruitful journey of experimental modern day trip-hops beats with single ‘Jasmine’.
Since coming on the scene in 2020 with single, Yoga While Crying’, MANX has created a claiming world based off of daydreams and heavy synesthesia that’s so lusciously comforting.
Maria states: “Suddenly I started making fiery dance tracks out of nowhere. I felt the need to inspire both myself and people around me to grow out of something, and be unapologetically alien and radically proud of it.”
Having recorded her own music since age thirteen, Maria’s creative DNA has grown into a doubtless originality that naturally ingrains every aspect of MANX. Aside from musical influences like Aphex Twin, Björk and Oklou, Maria dares to dance across unexpected genres and cultures, with a habit of messing around with both pop cultural framework as well as the expectations of listeners.
Her debut in 2019 had audiences and press sizzle over her luscious sound settings and eccentric style, calling it “addictive” and “incredibly vibey”.
‘JASMINE’ is available now via Adrian Recordings. Check out the equally tripped-out video below…
