Song of the Day: Roots – IYKZ

London based Nigerian rap artist IYKZ has been releasing music independently since 2012, and has always felt that something’s been missing; a connection of some sort. The story; his story, the good the bad and the ugly. The story of his background, IYKZ’ Roots.

IYKZ is of African decent, he’s Nigerian, patriotic and proud. Having previously collaborated with the likes of Maleek Berry and gaining millions of streams on Spotify, as well as support from tastemakers at BBC 1Xtra and KISS Fresh, IYKZ continues his upward trajectory. This single is what he feels those feelings of inner love and peace sound like. With the rich afro-inspired rap production from Ransom Beatz (Davido, Big Tobz, Runtown), IYKZ explores memories of his childhood, showing his journey much gratitude and adoration….

EP Review: This is Korie – Korie

With KORIE‘s EP, ‘This is Korie’, personally I feel there are subtle influences of the once-popularised Yo pop – a mixture of jazz, funk, reggae and Afrobeats – fused with acoustic, almost stripped -back performances led by the guitar. When you listen to each track in this set, it feels like this young Nigerian singer/songwriter is performing right in front of you in an intense, intimate setting of an underground jazz club.

Her pronounced Motherland-esque vocals, which holds so much passion, paints a vivid storytelling of her fears in life, the pursuit to find true love and the determination in becoming a better person. It’s very clear that from the EP that Korie lives and breathes music…and it’s very rare I come across any material of music, where you can actually feel the musician’s love for music.

So ladies and gents, let me introduce you to the very talented Miss Korie in her purest and rawest form…

Oxlade Shares New Track ‘DKT’

Following his feature on Skip Marley’s single, ‘Slow Down’, alongside Davido and H.E.R, rising Afropop star OXLADE slams down his brand new summer ready joint, ‘DKT (Dis Kind Thing)’. Intricately layered with Afrobeats and soulful R&B, the Spax-produced track is topped off by Nigerian-born Oxlade’s distinctively soulful vocals.

‘DKT’ follows his critically acclaimed EP ‘Oxygene’ which generated over 25 million streams across all platforms since its release back in March of this year.

Song of the Day: Belinda – Moh (ft. Mr Eazi)

Featuring one of Africa’s finest Mr Eazi, MOH’s debut single,‘Belinda’, leans to the soft, smooth and romantic side of Afrobeats, both artists proclaim their love for ‘Belinda’.

With a chilled-out beat produced by Lexyz that has a percussive drum pattern softly cantering through the heart of it, ‘Belinda’ sees MOH and Mr Eazi soulfully dance across the record creating a modern-day love song.

Although a new artist for 2020, MOH has been changing the Ghanaian soundscape with his refreshing sound, establishing himself as a cultural icon, both within the UK and Africa. With a unique style and being a Ghanaian of Middle Eastern and British decent, he combines musical influences from his myriad of colourful cultures into his music. Having started writing and performing music whilst in secondary school, MOH went on to record music and partner with other top artists from Ghana to continue perfecting his initial sound.

Following his completion of higher education and achieving a BSC in construction technology and management, music is now taking the stand for the rising star. Making a long-awaited debut in the Afrobeats scene, Moh gives us fresh new track ‘Belinda’.

Song of the Day: Nina – Jay Ardz

Originally from Verona, Italy JAY ARDZ has been meticulously constructing a new wave of UK Rap tracks with Afro-swing elements that continue to elevate him as an upcoming artist to reach a peak altitude in his career.

His first track of 2020 ‘Nina’ displays making his dream of success a reality, whilst remembering the path that has made him who he is today.

Revolutionizing a new era of upcoming UK hitmakers, Jay Ardz has already begun to set the tone for what is to come following his recent success of ‘Roadside’ (2019) which caught the attention of popular mainstream platform GRM DAILY, and ‘Mia Khalifa’ (2019) which featured on Spotify’s ‘Afrobashment’ playlist.
