Song of the Day: Ferrari – Julian Mika

North West Londoner JULIAN MIKA‘s latest single ‘Ferrari’ is a dream-trap joint exploring the thin line between what’s real and what’s fake.

At the age of 17, Julian, alongside childhood friend Ryo, formed music group Grand Wa Zoo and dropped two well-received projects under Scope Music Management. Mika now drops his debut solo project ‘LinkPhone’ and with ‘Ferrari’ being the first taste of what’s to come, it’s set to make a statement. ‘Ferrari’ is a melodic dream-trap banger with London injections, drawing inspirations from his favourite heavyweights in the scene such as J Hus, Benji Flow and Octavian. With lyrics like.

Speaking on the track Julian states:

“The lines between a fantasy, a lie and the truth have become blurred. Ferrari’s about navigating yourself within the maze at high speed”.

Born in Rome to a Sicilian mother, Julian moved from city-to-city throughout his childhood before settling in the UK at aged 10. His turbulent background and constant reintroduction to different, unfamiliar cultures and societies caused him to have a warped view on life, often feeling like an outsider looking in. With this perspective that always let him see things from a step back, Julian turned to music as a vice for his unique thoughts.

With support for his previous single ‘Pattern’ from Dummy Mag completely organically, it’s clear Julian’s music appeals to the masses. He’s now ready to level up and make a statement. His forthcoming EP ‘LinkPhone’ toys with the symbolism of a typical ‘burner phone’ representing the simple yet needed link between Julian and his audience. Not only this but it also symbolises the function of what phones are used for at the core, conversation, without distraction from anything else (social media) and Julian wants this to be represented while listening to ‘LinkPhone’.

With talent in music, along with impeccable imagery and style Julian Mika is a be a force to be reckoned with in London’s rapidly evolving scene. ‘Ferrari’ takes us on a journey through Julian’s mind as an outsider looking in and with a full EP set to drop very soon…Check him out below…

Album Review: T.H.B – ThBenj

Although it’s been the third or fourth time that THBENJ has appeared on NEW LEASE MUSIC, I will always associate the Italian rapper with track ‘Mumble Acid’ because of its infectiously rampant b-line and electronic effects on the vocals that gives the extra kick to the three minute sizzler. For that reason alone, I was very intrigued to see what he has cooked up in his solo debut album, ‘T.H.B’, released late last month.

The album possess a few banging tunes that can blow off the roof of any house party through, ‘Chasing Th Day’, ‘Manipulated’ and ‘Feelin’ It’. I have to say, then delving into his new project, I was caught off guard for a moment, as the theme of the 15-track set predominantly feature a more relaxed hip-hop/urban vibe with a kick of infectious b-line, featured in tracks, ‘Paranoid’, ‘Waiting For You’ and ‘ My Prayers To You.’

The biggest surprise was the concluding piece ‘Myself Again’ – an intimate setting with the acoustic guitar taking centre stage. THBENJ switches his usual kick-ass freestyle to a voice that’s so emotive and inviting –  I DID NOT expect that at all!

I have to hand it him, THBENJ did a blinding job on this debut project and it comes to no surprise that collection has already clocked up serious attention: ‘T.H.B’ is currently one of the top-selling hip-hop albums on Google Play in Italy.

So hit that play button on THBENJ‘s ‘T.H.B’ below. If you’re seriously into hip-hop, you won’t regret it:

Must Listens: Paranoid, Mumble Acid, Waiting For You, Thank You

New Track: Paranoid – ThBenj

THBENJ is one of those contenders who make his presence known in the rap game with braggadocious tracks, ‘Mumble Acid’ and ‘Louder’.

However the rapper adopts a more soothing and laid-back vibe through his latest single, ‘Paranoid’, which forms part of this forthcoming full-length album, dropping 28th June.

Check out ‘Paranoid’ below:

New Track: Mumble Acid – ThBenj

Just a little over a month since his since last appearance on NEW LEASE MUSIC,   THBENJ bounces right back into the blog’s limelight with first single of the year, ‘Mumble Acid,’ now from 18th January on all streaming/download sites.

The latest release boasts a dense-heavy b-line which gives off an extremely intense and fierce vibe. Accompanied with eerie distorted vocals, THBENJ‘s daring lyrical flow effortlessly rip through the stubborn bars. The braggadocious combo has already caught the attention of Radio International who interviewed the rapper/producer a day before the track’s release date.

‘Mumble Acid’ is a follow-up previous track, ‘Louder’ which peaked at number two on the Drooble Top 50 Hip Hop Charts…let’s see if this blazing joint follow suit.

Look out THBENJ‘s album, dropping later this year…for now, listen to ‘Mumble Acid’ below:
