Named “Drum N Bass Rebels With A Cause” by EDM Magazine, producer OBSIDIAN CANE and singer GIZELLA return to bring serious heat to the summer with their third collaborative single, ‘Addicted’ — out today, 30th July across all major music platforms.

With over 20 years of combined experience in the underground music scene, the duo proves they’re not here to follow the rules — they’re here to break them. Born from the dynamic contrast of their musical backgrounds, Obsidian Cane and Gizella continue to champion their love for Drum N Bass, carving out a fresh, genre-defying sound that is unapologetically unique and unmistakably their own.

A prolific producer with a standout resume, Obsidian Cane has crafted music for artists signed to Warner Bros, EMI, Parlophone, and worked with major UK broadcasters including Channel 4, BBC One, and BBC Two. He also made waves in the UK Garage scene with the club hit ‘I Need A Rhythm’ as one half of the duo KP. With ‘Addicted’, Cane delivers a smooth fusion of Drum N Bass and Jungle, layered with delicate, Far Eastern-inspired melodies and a subtle yet infectious groove.

Gizella – the underground scene’s “vocal chameleon” – is known for seamlessly crossing genres with her spellbinding delivery. Since her 1998 vinyl debut ‘Express Yourself’ on Gotcha! Records, she’s lent her signature voice to Hip Hop, EDM, Dubstep, and DnB, collaborating with artists like Korostyle, Juleunique, Mizimo, Experimental Feelings, and Ronny Becher. On ‘Addicted’, she effortlessly captures the emotions of a hopeless romantic, with her vocals playfully weaving through the summery rhythm with undeniable charm.

This latest release follows the duo’s well-received singles ‘Never Change’ and ‘Crazy World’ — both praised across the music press. OUT TODAY: Gizella & Obsidian Cane share their love of music with track,‘Never Change’

Never Change was born out of the creativity and originality of devout music enthusiasts – singer GIZELLA and producer OBSIDIAN CANE. Boasting a fusion of their unique styles, which defies the traditional genres boundaries, ‘Never Change’ is out today (31st January) on various music platforms.

With their latest offering, it’s very clear that the pair are not just churning out music for the sake of it; instead they openly invite the listener to experience a piece of their artistry and vision. Obsidian Cane introduces a mellow drive of Drum n Bass, In ‘Never Change’ laying the perfect foundation to allow the prospective listeners to be compelled by the vulnerability of Gizella’s 3-octave vocal range.

‘Never Change’ may be an unlikely union on paper, as one may immediately think a vocal range suited in a classical setting has no place in the rave scene. However in reality, the two musical styles create a euphoric experience – a contrasting sound that’s unmistakably and unapologetically theirs.

Debuting on P.I.M.P Records in 1998 with the vinyl release of ‘Express Yourself,’ Gizella made a name for herself in the UK Underground Garage dance scene. Evolving as a versatile vocalist & singer-songwriter performing across a wide spectrum of genres – including Hip Hop, EDM, Drum n Bass, and Dubstep – Gizella has gained a well-earned reputation as a vocal chameleon and storyteller and has collaborated with various artists including Korostyle, Juleunique, Mizimo, Experimental Feelings and Ronny Becher.

Hailing from London, Obsidian Cane has produced music for artists signed to Warner Bros, EMI and Parlophone as well as producing music for TV shows on Channel 4, BBC1 and BBC2. He scored a club hit, ‘I Need A Rhythm’ as UKG duo KP and currently performs live with KP featuring Ferraz at events such as 51st state Festival, House of Silk. A Music Technology Graduate, Obsidian Cane bravely fuses R&B, Funk & Hip-Hop elements with electronic rhythms to create distinctive UK Garage, R&B/Hip Hop & Drum and Bass songs.

Their union is nothing short of a miracle: after producing music for 20 years, Obsidian Cane decided to quit. However, he made a return to the industry eight years ago, when the digital age gave musicians the opportunity to be fully independent. On a search for a female vocalist, he asked an old school friend, who told him about a singer who rides a bike every morning, singing angelically. Contact details were exchanged through the friend and the rest was history. It turns out the singer riding on the bike every morning was Gizella and the singing was her vocal exercise!    

Now the pair unveil their new single ‘Never Change’ which gives a glimpse into their new-found collaboration that challenges the prospective listener’s musical horizon. ‘Never Change’ is out today, 31st January.

OneDa Teams Up With Mr Scruff For Double A-Side Single ‘Warrior’s Daughter / Rollin’

Manchester MC and vibes queen ONEDA collaborates with Mr Scruff to drop a new double A-Side on Heavenly Recordings. ‘Warrior’s Daughter’ / ‘Rollin’ is the latest release from Ms Manny On The Rise.

‘Warrior’s Daughter’ is built on the feeling of needing to go out and move to music – and to dance the fear away. “That’s me,” says OneDa, who grew up in Hulme and Gorton and who started out in the church her family ran. “I’m a warrior’s daughter. I’m strong, I’m not going to be fearful.” The track took on new meaning after her father died at the end of last year, which also involved spending time in Nigeria for the funeral. “When I think about being a warrior I think about my ancestors. I come from warrior blood. I’m not letting anything get me down.” Producer Mr Scruff explained that the tune was inspired by Johnny Kalsi’s dhol playing. “It is like a rowdy, unstoppable march, rolling forward in a spirit of rude celebration. I hope this tune does justice as a fitting tribute to OneDa’s father.”

‘Rollin’ is a big beast with stripped back beats n bass grounding OneDa’s high energy flow, which gained airplay on BBC Introducing. “I loved writing it with OneDa,” said Factory Floor’s Gabe Gurnsey. “The vibe was there immediately. I wanted a foundation of pure danceable rhythm and simplicity coupled with a killer lead vocal hook and rap, which OneDa delivered, no messing about.” The tracks follow ‘Vibes’ and ‘Busta’ which came out on Heavenly last year. Last year OneDa also featured on D’n’B stormer ‘Ballin’ with Vibe Chemistry, picking up 20 million plays on Spotify.

The Rude Girl Soundsystem – “big energy, big vibes, mad energetic” – is her all-new live show. It features OneDa with one of her DJs (Stylie, Jazzy Lioness or Presh) playing hip hop, drum n bass, breakbeats and afrobeats, with Stylie coming out from behind the decks to pick up the mic and go b2b. When she supported KRS1 at the Blues Kitchen last November the show included their own freestyled tribute to his 1980s classic MCs Act Like They Don’t Know. The two artists chatted after the show – “a sick experience”.

OneDa has recently taken over a weekly drivetime show on Unity Radio, playing the music that moves her. “It’s me just spreading my good vibes, really, pussy power”. The show includes a 45 minute ‘On The Rise’ section championing up and coming artists. OneDa’s also running Herchester, which is a project for women, non-binary and trans hip hop artists, aimed at uplifting young female and non-binary DJs and Producers.

London based artist and producer STATE OF NATION has teamed up with the Legendary Wu-Tang Clan for the rambunctious track, ‘Super Soldier’ taken from State of Nation’s debut album ‘Dark to Light’, to be released at the end of 2022.

Sibling Duo Beatnik Share Their EP, ‘Vol.2’

After years of contributing to London’s rich club culture via their Beatnik-themed parties, beloved YouTube channel, and having spun across many eras — from the Y2K pirate radio movement down to world tour arenas — BEATNIK is back with their latest full-length tape ‘Vol. 2’, a collection of six tracks that wanders through the worlds of drum & bass, R&B, dancehall, rap and electropop.

‘Vol. 2’ isn’t a solo affair — there are plenty of noteworthy guest cameos. D&B belter ‘Never So Much’ features vocals from UK songwriting legend and performer Royston, who worked closely with Estelle on her debut LP ‘The 18th Day’.

Beatnik are also both prolific DJs having spun on six continents in more than 70 countries, for events such as The British Fashion Awards, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight Fest and parties for Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Giuseppe Zanotti, ASOS and the F1 races. Working together officially for well over a decade, Beatnik has landed spins on Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM, Reprezent, Ibiza Radio and many more.

In the studio, the duo has worked with many artists including bass guitar polymath Thundercat, All Saints, LA dancehall artists Nik and Navi, rock band Will & The People, Tyson and UK R&B legend Terri Walker.

When she’s not busy with her Beatnik mantle, Nikki is the personal DJ for Kelis [Milkshake, Caught Out There, Bounce, Trick Me] when she tours the globe, with a partnership spanning over 15 years. With their latest project ‘Vol. 2’, Beatnik has assembled one of 2022’s strongest six-track runs from any genre. Have a listen below.
