5omerset Joins Up With Rapper J.Roque For Brand New Single, ‘Said To Me’

On the surface, 5OMERSET‘s brand new single ‘Said To Me’, is a breakup song with a retrospective mood enhanced by confusion and resentment. Beneath that, it’s about the desire to gain closure — moving on from the past and cutting ties with any toxic relationships or behaviour.

The light electronica piece features J.Roque who he met after running competition on TikTok looking for rappers to duet the song with a verse.

5omerset said of his collaboration with J.Roque: “after reviewing lots of amazing submissions, I chose J.Roque’s verse because lyrically it was the best fit for the song.

My favourite line of his is: ‘should I wait or is it love that I’m choosing?’ Don’t stay somewhere stagnant or in an unhappy relationship or state of mind; choose love for yourself.”

Electronic Producer Ben Everything Shares Meditative Single, ‘Cold Window’

Serving as a preview into his forthcoming debut album, ‘Music I Had To Write’, BEN EVEYTHING‘s captivating ethereal ballad, ‘Cold Window’, soulfully blends elements of dark UK electronica accompanied with a powerful and raw journey of self-reflection.

Ben reflects ‘I remember clearly one day, looking in the mirror and having an epiphany moment you only hear about in eastern philosophy or evangelical vice documentaries – the person looking back at me wasn’t the same person I was telling myself in my head.’

In its musical elements, the track takes inspiration from Fourtet and Joji and combines meditative piano with a vocal that is infused with the producer’s obsession with Dave Grohl’s performance on Everlong. This creates a subtle backdrop for the listener to go deeper into the lyrical theme of self-reflection.

‘Cold Window’ is the second single of the forthcoming album, ‘Music I Had To Write’, slated for release in Winter 2021. Have a listen below…

Song of the Day: Together Forever – Von Marlon

After a separate personal and musical split in quick succession, VON MARLON‘s alias was formed as a solo project after living abroad. The name derives from a Mike Skinner lyric, whose music along with other underground
alternative pioneers of the UK scene greatly inspired Von Marlon’s sound, which offers a mix of
Hip-Hop, Ambient, & Dance inspired alternative pop songs.

His single ‘Together Forever’, is about the dreams and hopes one can have for a relationship, not only when dating someone but also with a greater sense of connection in general. It was created during the past year and evolved from the current global situation; the longing for when everyone can come back together again and the feeling of excitement that that moment will bring.

Garnering attention with the two singles ‘Searching’ and ‘Tripping’ on independent radio stations such as Absolute Radio and Amazing radio, Von Marlon was then featured in The Unsigned Guide’s June ’19 Spotlight, before signing a sync deal to Max Music Publishing.

From this, ‘Closer’ was synced on an episode of Queen Sugar, the US TV show broadcasted on Oprah Winfrey’s network OWN, whilst also being listed in Ditto’s ‘Chartbreaker’ Spotify playlist.

Song of the Day: Quit While Were Ahead – Voxxen (ft. Lulu)

Following up on his single, ‘Salt’, which claimed the blog’s Song of the Week title last month, VOXXEN presents his latest, ‘Quit While Were Ahead’.

Unlike his previous effort, ‘Salt’, which possess bold uses of electro rock and indietronica, ‘Quit While Were Ahead’ is more of a minimalist affair, taking on feathery indietronica soundscapes.

Check out the accompanied video below, which features the Norwegian artist himself. Expect a string of singles from Voxxen plus an album release later this year.

Song of the Day: Moving – John Dole

Hailing from Newcastle, alternative hip hop and electronic artist JOHN DOLE‘s single, ‘Moving’, is a reflection of his own personal
battles.

The latest release opens to paranoia-drenched synth strings, lending a tense and uneasy feel that sets the
scene for the bars to come. Dole’s vocals enter alongside hard-hitting percussion which
immediately ups the intensity levels further with an itching, fervent energy.

With regional and national support from the likes of Nick Roberts (BBC Introducing North East),
Huw Stephens (Radio 1), John Kennedy (Radio X) and Tom Robinson (BBC 6Music), ‘Moving’
follows in the footsteps of earlier releases, ‘Rolling’ and ‘Collective Thoughts’.
