Miso Extra Shares Last Single, ’50/50′ From Her Upcoming MSG EP

Trailblazing London-based, mixed heritage singer, rapper and producer MISCO EXTRA has today shared the final taste from her forthcoming MSG EP, ahead of its release on Friday (18th August) via Transgressive Records. With ’50/50′ she demonstrates a further foray into experimenting with wonky beats, restrained percussion and clever samples, all while singing/rapping in both Japanese and English. Talking about the single she says, “finding the balance in life is hard and I’m someone who is guilty of being stuck in drive. I wrote this song to remind me to not be too hard on myself and to try and enjoy the ride.”

The single is accompanied by an incredible animated video, directed by Taku Mikami, whom Miso discovered on Instagram through a Japan-based gallery she follows posting his work. In her words, “I fell in love with the moody color palettes and animation style. I took a chance and reached out to ask if he would be interested in working on a video. When they said yes and came back with a treatment it felt like a no brainer. Taku has beautifully managed to weave in so many different references to the lyrics into the visuals. I honestly think this video is amazing!”

Song of the Day: Rituals – Bite The Boxer

BITE THE BOXER‘s latest single ‘Rituals’ marks a new genre and direction for UK-based producer, this time going deeper and darker than before…

‘Rituals’ evokes an unsettling atmosphere with a slight glimmer of hope and light shining through the darkness. Within the music there are hints of horror movies and early first-person shooter games such as Quake, the latter of which was scored by a long-time influence on the music of Bite The Boxer, Nine Inch Nails.

What started off as an anonymous synthwave project in early 2020, as a way of sharpening his music production skills during lockdown, Bite The Boxer has transformed into a multi-genre, single-person, DIY production project spanning industrial altpop, synthwave, cyberpunk, ambient, chillwave, lo-fi.

His debut album The ’86 Sound was released in August 2020, followed by a glut of singles and the breakout EP – ‘A Stream Becomes A River’, released on 15th October 2021. On the back of the success of A Stream… Bite The Boxer moved to a slightly more commercial, yet alternative sound for widely-praised single, ‘Forgotten’, in April 2022 and Like ‘A Ghost’ in June 2022. Many of these singles received international radio airplay, as well as being picked up by BBC Introducing.

Song of the Day: Found – Quiet Son & Arula

With their dreamy, dark, sensual sound, ARULA & QUIET SON form a duo whose music combines the qualities of both urban electronica, dance, and experimental folk with an infusion of melodic pop sensibilities. Initially starting as a remote song collaboration between the two California artists & producers, the project blossomed into a fully realised LP that winds through themes of self-discovery, reclamation, climate consciousness, and romantic vulnerability.

In just a little over a year, Arula & Quiet Son have played shows throughout California, touring with acts like Random Rab & Desert Dwellers. The first single and title track from their debut album, ‘Found’, explores the power and direct connection between the feminine and nature.

Excited about the release, Arula says: “‘Found’ is a reclamation of the power that can only be harnessed from within. It is an ode to anyone who has ever felt lost, confused, or like they don’t fit it. It is a reminder that we can always be found within ourselves, and within the receptive energy of nature and earth”

Quiet Son elaborates: “The production of this song is really special to me. It was such a unique challenge, because when I heard the initial demo I realised the message of the song is so clear that I had to make sure the production supported Arula’s vision precisely. It was an exploration in creating and subsequently releasing tension: to build the sound around Arula’s vocals as the message of the song evolves from one of self-doubt into one of complete reclamation, empowerment, and ecstasy. It was fun to let that huge bass synth take over in the last chorus; I think it really opens the song up and symbolizes the feeling of relief and blessing we can feel when we give ourselves permission to take control of our lives and destinies.”

Arula continues: “Our hope is that this song reminds you that you are powerful and enough, just because you exist. May you always feel found within yourself.”

Song of the Day: Jasmine – MANX

I hope you’re ready to get really weird-out, as producer and multi-field artist Maria Nyström – aka – MANX invites you inside a tripped-out yet fruitful journey of experimental modern day trip-hops beats with single ‘Jasmine’.

Since coming on the scene in 2020 with single, Yoga While Crying’, MANX has created a claiming world based off of daydreams and heavy synesthesia that’s so lusciously comforting.

Maria states: “Suddenly I started making fiery dance tracks out of nowhere. I felt the need to inspire both myself and people around me to grow out of something, and be unapologetically alien and radically proud of it.”

Having recorded her own music since age thirteen, Maria’s creative DNA has grown into a doubtless originality that naturally ingrains every aspect of MANX. Aside from musical influences like Aphex Twin, Björk and Oklou, Maria dares to dance across unexpected genres and cultures, with a habit of messing around with both pop cultural framework as well as the expectations of listeners.

Her debut in 2019 had audiences and press sizzle over her luscious sound settings and eccentric style, calling it “addictive” and “incredibly vibey”.

‘JASMINE’ is available now via Adrian Recordings. Check out the equally tripped-out video below…

Song of the Day: Damage – DJ GANZ (ft. Beach Season)

GANZ, A.K.A Jordy Saämena is an Amsterdam-based producer/DJ extraordinaire who developed his masterful blend of hip-hop and electronica from a young age. Over time, GANZ’s sound has evolved, seeing him explore new territories and experiment with indie, pop and avant-garde music. His latest releases showcase his time spent playing with a multitude of genres and ambient soundscapes, creating something that is truly unique to GANZ.

In collaboration with Canadian duo Beach Season, comprised of Sam Avant and Simon Blitzer, GANZ unveils ‘Damage’. This latest partnership has involved international cooperation like no other. Bringing the lyrical ingenuity to life, Beach Season’s euphoric vocals pair seamlessly with lavish lofi beats. They explain, “The lyrics for “Damage” were inspired by the notion of mindless self-indulgence, even at the cost of one’s own well-being. The main root of the song centres around catharsis – a release that Sam and Simon felt even as they composed the lyrics. We have all experienced the need to be self-destructive in order to move past trauma or feel emotion.”

Taking inspiration from 90’s hip-hop and R&B elements, GANZ has developed euphonious musical elements like no other, adding a dimensional feel to “Damage”. Offering bulging basslines, echoing melodies and pulsing rhythmic sounds, this single is set to soar in success. With over 200,000 monthly listeners, his synth-focused productions and remixes helped usher in a new era of electronic music. With streaming numbers in the millions, we’re set to see huge things from GANZ and future collaborative opportunities in the coming months…Have a listen to ‘Damage’ below…
