Warren Wint Drops New Track, ‘The Whole 9’

With support from Billboard, Noisey, Hot 97, XXL, MTV, The Source, VH1, and BET, among others, fast-
rising hip hop artist and musician WARREN WINT is one of New York’s best kept secrets, although not for
much longer as he returns with his brand new single and first offering of 2020 titled ‘The Whole 9’. The
new single from Warren Wint picks up right where he left off last year, where he amassed nearly half a
million views on YouTube releasing visuals for singles from his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Quietaskept’ such as ‘One Of A Kind’, ‘Maybe’, ‘This Way’, and ‘Keep That Energy’.

Co-produced by Othellobeats, who has previously worked with PNB Rock, Yung Ro, and Pop Smoke, among others, and V-Notes (Joell Ortiz, Shontelle, Cocoa Sarai), ‘The Whole 9’ sees Warren Wint waxing lyrical and paying homage to the boss women who “got her own s**t, that the whole 9” as he raps on the song’s chorus. The track is not only driven by Warren’s infectious flow and lyrical dexterity, but also by the glorious drums-led musical backdrop, which is reminiscent of seminal ‘golden era’ New York hip hop music, while also drawing groove influences from 80’s R&B classics.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘The Whole 9’, Warren Wint says, “The song takes its cue from the classic phrase ‘the whole nine yards’, which typically means everything you could possible want or have or ‘the whole package’ as I would say. It’s a tribute to boss women, and on the flipside, boss men as well, because these days, we all want to be with people that can be more than just a fun night, and who can bring something to the table. Musically, I wanted to do something that showed you could still have fun with rap music, I wanted the track to feel familiar, while remaining uniquely me”.

Currently working on his highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Father’s Favorite’, which is set to be released this summer, Warren Wint first burst onto the scene in 2018 with his eclectic sound that’s firmly steeped in hip hop music, and infused with elements of R&B, pop, gospel, and poetry, and he has not looked back since. The New York native kickstarts his 2020 ready to come into his own as one of the best new artists coming out of The Big Apple this year, having already been backed by leading tastemakers such as Billboard, XXL, Hot 97, MTV, Noisey, The Source, BET, VH1, and Power 105.1

EP Review: Igbotic – Ike Chuks

One of UK’s hottest talents, IKE CHUKS‘ new EP, ‘Igbotic’ sees him slamming down a laid-back smooth flow delivered in English as well as Pidgin and Igbo.

The first half the collection delivers a gutsy warmth of Afro-Swing tribal-esque bass, featured in ‘What Happened To Kate’ and ‘Ego’. Influences of UK urban/hip-hop creeps in, creating a seamless fusion with the beats originated from the Motherland, as featured in the wavy joint, ‘Money’ and ‘Fire’

In this mini five-piece set, Ike has created really special here, that can be easily appeasing to the audiences beyond the UK urban circuit. Check out Ike’s EP below…

Song of the Day: Freaks! – 7VN

Drawing influence from artists such as Schoolboy Q, Fredo Santana and Kendrick Lamar, Toronto based hip-hop artist 7VN’s latest single ‘Freaks!’, is an ambitious and frank hip-hop number, with introspective and insightful bars, delivered in a deadpan flow.

The track’s thought-provoking music video, features Canada’s most modified man. Speaking more on this, 7VN explained:

“The music video is essentially a split between two worlds, one where I’m preforming in this cool studio set up, and the model in the video is all done up. At home, the reality is that I’m living with a devil on my shoulder feeding me drugs of all sorts and the model is my pregnant girlfriend yelling at me.

At the end of the video I get a knock on the door and it’s a suitcase with the words “record deal” written on it. We’re all excited but inside it is a noose. In a very underlying sense, it shows that all that glitters isn’t gold and all while I’m at the studio with this big rapper performance, behind the scenes the truth isn’t as glamorous.”

7VN is no stranger to the game. Since bursting onto the scene back in 2018, 7VN has already established himself alongside the best in the industry such as Frank Dukes, Murda Beatz and Tay Keith’s producer Banbwoi.

Album Review: Layerz – King Blitz

A build up to an infectious drive that he’s renowned for introduces KING BLITZ‘s latest album, ‘Layerz’, which smoothly shifts to different fusions of afterhours R&B/hip-hop, where at times blitz’s- and his line-ups’ – flow could travel as fast as a bullet.

Still keeping it on a chilled tip, Blitz introduces some trap-hop soundscapes in ‘Fonts’ and some old school vibes in ‘Pulpit’ both possessing a menacing drive, giving both tracks some real meat.

It’s hard not to like ‘Layerz’ as, from the start of the collection, it has what it takes to generate some serious heat among die-hard fans of hip-hop…add this badboy to your collection. Check out ‘Layerz’ below…
